What's your 12 in '12 reading plan?

I would like to go for 12 books which are not in English, I speak a couple of other languages but I am always too lazy to read books which are not translated in English :-)

That's a great idea. Water Street Bookstore in Exeter, NH is also a great indie and is another NH Seacoast location.

My husband, who is a fan of doorstop fantasy novels, challenged me to read 12 LONG books this year (over 650 pages) which I am going to try to do. I'm a big reader, but the really huge books always seem to get set aside in favor of shorter stuff so I will choose a dozen big books from my to read list and tackle those this year.

I will read 12 graphic novels of the middle reader variety (I've read 1 in my 29 years...) and 12 of the oldest on my bookshelves!

I've been putting off the Outlander series because of the size, but I gave in and started book 1. Can I just say LOVE IT!!! This series is my doorstop challenge for this year. Each book is longer than the last. If you haven't read these, try these for your LONG books!

I just found this, and had previously upped my reading goal from 52 books for 2011 to 100 books for 2012. So if I think about it, I can certainly find a 12 in there somewhere.
I think reading 12 books I already own would be good, since I tend to read a lot of library books and the books on my shelf just languish. In fact, I've come to believe that if I do buy a book, that signs the death knell for that book in terms of reading it.
I don't want the death knell for any of my books!

Hmmm, interesting - I tend to beleive that if I don´t immediately buy a book it will somehow mysteriously disappear from all bookshops and bookshelves never to be seen again....

Oh my goodness - so do I! I have done this *so* many times, and then the books just "languish," as Linda so aptly put it. I don't think there's any cure for this malady, either.

Yeah, me too especially if it's a bit off the main track. Books sometimes have short shelf lives....besides sometimes I can't stand to walk away and leave it there on the shelf.

My 12 for '12 reading challenge will be to read a minimum of 1 book each month recommended by BOTNS. The January read was recommended from their December best of 2011 lists. February read is from their January recommendations (I actually chose 2 books recommended in January), and so on. I have read a number of the Mallory books by O'Connell out of order, and I think you can go ahead an read this book out of order. It may entice you to read previous Mallory books, so enjoy.

I'm so jealous! I moved from the WDC to Oregon five years ago and I'm still very homesick for the East Coast! When I left, there was Politics and Prose, Kramer Books and Afterwords, Olsson's and big B&N and Borders stores as well. I believe Olsson's has closed and, of course, Borders; but I've heard Just One More Page is fabulous :-)

Mom of three is going for an easy 12 books in 12 month. Unfortunately, the books i'm planning to read this year are ALL BIG bricks! (Catch 22, Ken Follet, Donna Tartt, Styron, Julies Verne, Atwood, etc.) Also, I'm reading quite a few in english so it goes slower than my usual french. Good thing I found a "Bob Morane" book yesterday to give me a chance!

Powell's...the happiest place on earth! It's a 3 hour train or car trip for me, but we do it a couple of times a year. There are many excuses to be in Portland, but none better than Powell's.

Alas, I am falling behind on my 12 in 2012 challenge (to read 12 books I already own)! My first book was called - ready? - The Book on the Bookshelf by Henry Petroski. I tend to own a lot of books about books...
But then all my library queue books came in at the same time. They have due dates! This is hard! There's Autobiography of a Face by Lucy Greeley looking over my shoulder every DAY! Got to get back on track with this...

I read and loved this book shortly after it came out. I don't think there is a need to read it a second time - it will remain with me forever.

Going after the twelve books that I keep pushing aside because I have been working full time and going to college full time. Now close to graduation and figured that I will start now. They were pushed aside because either they didn't grab me right away, I got busy and pushed them aside or they were too long for me to even try.

I just finished book 2 of 12. I am reading through a pile of odds and ends from book sales. Needed a sappy romance and finished "Miracle" by Danielle Steel. I'm under a huge pile of stress so enjoyed the story and especially a happy ending.

I've read 15 books so far this year. This is a combo of books I owned I'm finally getting to, library books and ebooks.

That said, I'm considerably behind what I can do! Two years ago I did a 52 in 52 weeks and actually read 104 that year. :)

i just read my plan and had to hold my head down in shame... 300 on my tbr and i promised not to add more... uhm, i am over 500 now and dont feel the shame i thought i would. i think i need to read everything!!

Finished The Virgin Suicides; thereby officially finishing my challenge of 12+2 for this group. I read my 2 alternates, because there was no way I could read Inheritance and Treasure Island. Inheritance may have to wait for beginning of next year, since Brisingr was kind of whack... yeah, i said it; whack. did not like it that much, but i feel like i need to re-read it before tackling Inheritance.

On to the next one... alas. :/

I doubt very seriously if I can finish Inheritance this year considering the 3rd book was not so pleasurable...mmm

EDIT: ...thought i had read more than i did, but that is not the case. Inheritance will not be read this year; but will try with The Help and The Talented Mr. Ripley.. :)

In one of the airports I traveled through on my way back from Santa Cruz, I saw a man reading a book, asked what it was and was surprised to find out it was the graphic novel version of . I didn't know it was out as a graphic novel.
Yesterday, I saw it listed as a new acquisition at my not-so-local library. I put in a request for it. Today I got the e-mail that it's waiting for me.

I didn't know that either, interesting. i have seen more and more books go comic. some are actually very good and give you a nice visual. :)

Not even close. My books that I own all did languish. I read lots of library books, though! I did not make my GoodReads challenge of 100 books - came up just short with 85. Still, that is 30 more than last year, so something. I DO still want to do my 12 in 12, though, so I am again going to try to incorporate that into my reading. It is just one book a month that I own - I do want to read them, so I think I can do it. It's just about being purposeful.
