Ruby Nielsen | 4 comments I know this is a Q&A on Family Tree, but I had a question on one of your other book's , Shades of Grace. It's been a while since I read it so I have forgotten the names of the characters. I was wondering if you knew someone who was close to you who went through alhiemers(s/p I think that was what the main character went through). I couldn't put the book down when I first read it. It was interesting to see how her daughter and granddaughter were able to handle it and became closer because of it.

My own grandmother went through it. Even though I was very young (about 5-6 yrs) I knew that she wasn't the same as she used to be. That's why I wondering if you had someone close to go through this. If that was the "inspiration" for Shades of Grace.

Good guess, Ruby. My mother died when I was very young, so I was raised by an aunt. That aunt was suffering with Alzheimer's disease at the time I wrote "Shades of Grace." She was definitely the inspiration for the book.
