Start with the first book, Tsar Wars Agents of ISIS, Book 1 by Stephen Goldin , and work your way up from there.

Jacques Antoine (jacquesantoine) | 21 comments I'm hoping to be able to finish the second book in the series "The Emily Kane Stories" over Christmas. That sounds like wishful thinking, I know. But I'm determined!

It's an action thriller about a high school girl who has to fight to stay one step ahead of the covert operatives hunting her. The title is SEN NO SEN, which is a karate term meaning "attack the attack."

You can read the working version of chs 1-3 here: http://ronin1999.blogspot.com/2011/11/sn...

You can also find chs 1-6 of the first book, Go No Sen, here: http://ronin1999.blogspot.com/2011/07/go...

If you like either of them, let me know. I may do a give away of the first book over Christmas if there's enough interest.

Johnny Ray (sirjohn) | 58 comments THE REJECTION LETTER is now on kindle http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0069S80AE

Just asking--After sleeping with a literary agent shouldn’t you receive more than a standard form rejection letter? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0069S80AE

All Serial killers are different--but with one that stalks literary agents--mere words are not enough.

To someone else, the rejection letter might be perceived as a simple piece of correspondence. But when Amy, who suffers from bipolar disorder receives a form rejection letter from Edward, an agent she had an affair with at a recent convention, she takes the rejection as both personal and professional—in short—a declaration of war.
Amy quickly embarks on a plan to get revenge by destroying Edward’s literary agency. However, Amy is soon not the one to be feared the most. Her actions create a copycat, a serial killer, who targets literary agents and viciously murders them. Living with the knowledge she has created a monster, a serial killer, is one thing, while doing nothing to stop the madness is another. But how could she track down a killer when she has no training in such? Thinking like a mad man might be the only way—but could she go there and survive herself?
When the winds of fate rekindle the romance with Edward, thus making him the next target—she really has no choice but to help the FBI. But will she be too late?

Ryan (ryancallaway) | 2 comments My genres are usually horror/suspense but a few years ago I wrote "Avenger of Blood", which has been described as an urban thriller or action/drama.

The Avenger of Blood Bioweapon / A Fallen Rose by Ryan Callaway

http://www.amazon.com/Avenger-Blood-e...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0615...

In the corrupt, crime-ridden city of Minikin Capital, a quiet man who works as an assistant pastor during the day goes out at nights as the Avenger of Blood, an agent of vengeance who punishes those who shed the blood of the innocent.

In BIOWEAPON, a lethal biological warfare agent is dispersed in the city, sending over a hundred citizens to the hospital. Detective Miyoshi, the police force, and the Avenger work to stop the terrorist behind the attack.

In A FALLEN ROSE he befriends a young woman seeking an escape from her tumultuous life, but when she is entangled in the center of a controversial murder case, it challenges his faithfulness to his assignment.

Sarah Bahn (sarahleithbahn) | 13 comments HI!
My middle grade action/adventure book, The Ancient Realm will be available for FREE for the next five days starting Feb 24th on Kindle http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006OHLSJK

Synopsis: Agnes Adelaide Fordyce, an ordinary eleven-year-old girl, finds her life plunged into adventure one cold fall evening when a mysterious new babysitter named Octavia comes to visit. Her life in Blue Rocks Harbour, Nova Scotia, once filled with tedious chores from her German Nanny and teasing from her older twin brothers, is changed forever when she is introduced to the Ancient Realm, a secret society of Guardians who protect the precious natural resources of planet Earth.

The first book in a new fantasy series by Sarah Leith Bahn, The Ancient Realm combines a look at the beauty of our planet with timely concerns about our global ecosystems. Above all, we are taken on a magical adventure, from the shores of Nova Scotia, to the heights of the Himalayas, to the islands of the Indian Ocean, where we learn about the mystery and power of the natural world around us. Through Octavia, Agnes also learns about herself, and how important it is for each of us to dream, to appreciate the world around us, to fight for what we care about... and to believe.

Stephen Pearl (stephenp11) | 272 comments Hi all, I’d like to mention my novel Nukekubi which plays hopscotch with Genera but can be classed as a Paranormal Action Adventure.
From ancient times nukekubi have haunted the land of Japan. Living as men by day, these beasts slip their heads free of their flesh at night and go in search of human prey. These hapless souls are driven into a terrified madness that results in their death.
Ray McAndrues, a modern-day wizard, must neutralize a nukekubi that is feasting on the people of Toronto. He is aided by Cathy, a sorceress of numerous charms, and Toshiro and Kunio, two, Japanese, martial artists who have made hunting nukekubi their lives' work.
As the quest plays out, questions arise. Who is hunting who? How can you slay the beast that stalks the night without slaying the man who walks the day? What is the strange, millennia-old connection that binds Ray to the beast, and will it help or hinder the quest?

Remember, you have nothing to fear but Nukekubi, fear itself.

Ken Consaul | 180 comments So far this thread has been a venue for author's to proudly declare their work to be part of the genre.

Let's try something to appeal to the readers of action adventure. Tell me, what exactly makes a book fit in the action adventure category. I call it the testosterone aisle but I'd like to hear some other viewpoints. Seems to me H. Ryder Haggard fits the bill as well as Tom Clancy.

Perhaps even more cogent a topic; who is the demographic that buys action adventure. Seems to me a lot of the potential readers have been lost to video games. With each click and rotation of the thumb, the literacy quotient declines.

message 46: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Hallbrooks (lynnhallbrooks) | 135 comments Ken,

In my opinion an Action/Adventure novel is one where an individual or a group of individuals are always on the move. Something or someone is driving that movement. Maybe the adventure part is when the person or group have hoops to go through to get out of their particular situation.

You mentioned Tom Clancy...having just finished 'Without Remorse' where the main character John Terrence Kelly is thrust into a series of situations in which he felt he had no other recourse but to respond...mostly in a not so pleasant way. Eventually John finds his way through the hoops. So yes, I'd agree that he writes Action/Adventure.

As for the video game crowd...you may be correct but someone had to 'write' that program before the video was put together. It's just another form of entertainment based on somebody's imagination.

Well, that describes my story to a T. The only caveat is my story occurs in 1848. I have it listed on Amazon under Historical Fiction and Historical Romance. I'm going to try changing one of those to Action/adventure and see how it goes.

When I think of action adventure I think, as do most of the authors posting above, of something more contemporary.

Adding a romantic element as part of the story may not fit the action/adventure genre. It was Raymond Chandler who cautioned against a character in a detective novel from having a romantic interest. Said it killed the tension.

To me action/adventure tends to be more of a formula sort of story that develops as in your example but has clearly good guys who wreak havoc on clearly bad guys. Not saying there haven't been action characters dating back to Horatio Hornblower or Sharpe of Sharpe's Rifles fame or even Sherlock Holmes (no romantic interest). I'm just thinking the settings are contemporary and often involve lots of acronyms.

As for the video games, the Roman emporers staged the gladitorial games but it didn't mean any of the crowd could read. Tom Clancy started off as a gamer though

There's a touch of romance in our book. There are definitely good guys and gals...Bad guys and gals...some who probably where the grey hats because sometimes you just can't tell if they're good or bad. :)

I hear you...always entertainment...didn't say they were ones that could read. :) Didn't know that about Tom Clancy being a gamer.
