Yeah-if I wanted to watch drama, I could just go read your posts, huh?good idea-turn on the person who asks everyone to stop....and then wonder why people call you a bully....

Like I've said before the original post was about stating the obvious, not trying to be a troll.

If I wanted to stop I'd stop. The thread doesn't need a mommy to tell us we're being bad little children and to move on.
And the first part? Lol. Sure, do whatever you're precious little heart desires.
Mrs Joseph calls Kevin a "fucking twit" and gets thanked for it.Kevin jumped in and started on about the titles. Ala responded with humor by changing it. And was accused of abusing power.
Others responded to a dumb post or two from Kevin and became bullies.
mark attacked Ronald but is righteous so it's justified.
The rest of us. What...I forgot.
Where's my beer?
If it was a statement of the obvious....
did it really need to be stated?

I am. Which will surely offend someone.
Happy New Year to you too...
Ala wrote: "If it was a statement of the obvious....did it really need to be stated?"
I felt like yes, in this thread.
Nicki wrote: "Really, really, really Kevin. And another really for the road. As for MrsJ walking past your original post, um, wtf are you talking about?"Go and take a look at post 1993, two comments after mine.

I like how he felt the need to rip off his shirt before bitch slapping some random guy. I'm totally going to rip off my shirt and bitch slap someone next time I get tapped on my shoulder....pleasenotatwork

when i used to live in the mission here in sf, i'd see that ripping-the-shirt-off before a gang fight on a weekly basis, right at the corner. crazy kids! oh kids these days.

Yeah, I know, its a good one. I love his reviews. He is one that really uses this site right.

Hey, its just a observation I like to make.
P.S. Nicki, I don't give a fuck what you think.

i think he's one of the best reviewers on this site. such a distinctive voice. and he reviews almost entirely scifi, fantasy, horror & action. he's incredibly popular, so i hope that his popularity has somehow increased readership for those genres, if only because of his awesome reviews.

Yeah, if you look at his daily schedule, I can't believe that he still has time for reading at all, especially reading as much as he does or Goodreads, especially making those awesome graphic filled emotional/funny reviews of his. A really great job.
i think he really channels his inner teenager when he writes those reviews. they are brilliant & he's clearly highly intelligent and well-read... but they are also just really fun to read. i think it's that unique voice of his that really makes him a success.

I appreciate actually reading about books.
ouch! about 1 in 10 of my reviews are all about me! well, i suppose i am a monstrously self-absorbed person. and that's also probably why Stephen is a superior writer - his reviews are actual book reviews (in a unique voice), not personal narratives.like you say... i do tend to prefer those reviews that are at least mainly about the book itself. i like the long, in depth, passionate ones, the ones where folks are really analyzing the book and their own reaction to it. whether or not they actually like the book in question. karen (i think still the #1 reviewer, it's been a while since i've checked) is similar to Stephen in that regard.
my favorite review by Stephen:

although sometimes the writing in a 'personal narrative' type review is so good, it is almost like reading a short story.
like this one, by Ceridwen:

Nicki wrote: "I had a glance at that review but saw the images and immediately clicked away. I tend to ignore reviews that are full of images. If you can't say what you want to say using words, you aren't trying..."Just ignore my Fine Young Cannibals comment earlier then.
Are you people seriously still doing this? Really?Personally, I really enjoy book discussions. Unless I have to read past a bunch of whiny comments like "They're being mean to me!" Boo hoo. And "Go F yourself!" Go back to middle school. Really.
This is a random thread discussion so hopefully the crap will stay in here and out of where the grown ups are.
Have fun at it.
yay! that is another one of my favorite reviews. well, she's also one of my favorite reviewers. her review for Zone One is sorta amazing.
ugh, Amazon! the apparent reading level of reviewers alone sorta boggles the mind. some of the poorest reviews i've read in my life on that site (same with imdb for movies). well, i suppose there is some gold in the amazon reviews amongst the dross.i read & hunt down reviews all the time. i don't think of myself as much of a follower/joiner, but i do look for the passionate & intelligent review to get me to try new things.
I used to review on Amazon, but pretty much don't anymore. GR is much more productive and user friendly.
well i don't want it to seem that i think ALL amazon reviews are bad. there have been many that have been pretty awesome and have led me to great places. and then there's the remaining 99%...i think i have two amazon reviews posted. one for a book that i love, but no one else seemed to have even heard of (The House Across the Way by Brian McNaughton)... i just felt bad for the book, if that makes sense, so i cross-posted my GR review.
and the other was by an author request after i posted a review here. it was a sort of mystifying request, because it was 3-star review - some positive comments in it and overall, but a lot of critique. maybe she just wanted more coverage, being an indie author. who knows.
you know, you're right about that. it shows a refreshing lack of self-consciousness. i remember also having a very nice experience with the author of Nights of Villjamur, after i gave it a very negative review. a good guy! i think i even had to up the book 1 star, if only because of the author. not a particularly integrity-filled decision on my part, but i like to reward folks who can take a critique. and although i do follow the GR system, everything is fairly flexible for me, rating-wise. the only exception is for my 5-star reviews, which i only like to give books that i truly LOVE, plan on rereading, and have literally no problem with from beginning to end. i'd feel strange if i was handing out a ton of top marks to lots of books.
mark wrote: "ouch! about 1 in 10 of my reviews are all about me! well, i suppose i am a monstrously self-absorbed person. and that's also probably why Stephen is a superior writer - his reviews are actual book ..."Mark, I am going to have to check out Ceridwen's reviews a lot more.
