CJ I really can't stand either, and see little difference between them. I read Angels and Demons in the hopes that it would be miles better than Da Vinci Code; it wasn't. It seemed like the same unfortunately bad story, with only some names changed about.

I do want to read the other Dan Brown novels for the same hopes, but after reading those two I legitimately think the man can't write to save his life.

message 202: by Allen (new) - rated it 4 stars

Allen May I love Angels & Demons more than Da Vinci Code.
But I love The Lost Symbol the most! :)

Mohammad Elrayes I enjoyed the three books (Angels and demons, Davinci code and the lost symbol in that particular order). In the two movies though ... they had to sidetrack all the time in order to explain the background ... which is acceptable in a book ... horrible for a movie. This was the case in the 2 movies ... but less so in Angels and Demons movie.

message 204: by Suji (new) - rated it 5 stars

Suji Da Vinci Code; only because you didn't know where it would lead you in the end. From the beginning of Angels& Demons we know what's going to happen and the purpose of the villain; having little surprise ( I love books that surprise me). Da Vinci Code was fast pace and in true essence a treasure hunt type of book, in which Demons and Angels tries to follow in plot but its not quite succeeding.

Tanjlisa Marie Both books were awesome but I liked The Da Vinci Code better. The "bad guy's" reveal in Angels & Demons of why he did what he did just didn't justify his extreme actions.

message 206: by Ahmed (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ahmed Eid I liked the book of Da Vinci Code more than Angels & Demons .. But vice versa for the movies

message 207: by Ammar (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ammar Of course Da Vinci Code is better.

Roberta Alpha wrote: "I loved Angels & Demons more than its predecessor though I read its predecessor first."

I read the books in the order they came out, Angels & Demons in 2000, Da Vinci Code in 2003 and Lost Symbol in 2009 and thought that Da Vinci Code was pretty lame.

I agree with this. If I could rate the three series, The Lost Symbol would rank first, followed by Angels & Demons, and sad-to-say, but Da Vinci Code would be the least. That's my opinion. I hope I haven't offended anyone.

message 210: by [deleted user] (new)

I love both of them. Da Vinci Code is way too perfect that it looks so real. in angels and demons i like how they race with time.

message 211: by Sedina (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sedina No doubt, The DaVinci Code! I've read both books, but in Code evertything's much picturesquely. While you read this book you can actually see everything right there infront of you, like a real thing!Dan has done a great job with this book, and amazing thing about this work is symbols of bloodrelationship, connection between two people who are total strangers at the beginin' and at the end something much more. Lot of mistery makes this book more interesting. Sauniere is the most amazing carater in whole story, his presens even like a dead carater leads them right infront the door of answers, and all they have to do is open them to see more quastions. I could write 'till tomorow,I'm impressed! :)
PS, I have this book in my collection,I'm thinking about to read it again,AWESOME!

message 212: by Marcy (new) - rated it 3 stars

Marcy I preferred Angels and Demons, personally, I think partly because when I finished reading it, it felt more like a stand-alone book. All three of them (and I'm assuming the soon-to-be-out Inferno will fit this description as well) function as stand-alones, but because A&D was the first of the series, it does feel more like it was written just as one story and not like it happens to be one story in a series of stories about the symbologist.

message 213: by Srijan (new) - rated it 4 stars

Srijan Gupta angels and demons... just love this book.. the storyline is really fast paced and also more gripping than The Da Vinci Code in my opinion..

message 214: by Heidi (new) - rated it 3 stars

Heidi I read The Da Vince Code first back in 2005 because everyone was talking about it. I really liked it, then I read Angels and Demons and thought it was great, even better than DVC. The movies though...

message 215: by Gokhan (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gokhan Erguven Angels & Demons is way better than The Da Vinci Code. Code is cheaper than Demons.

message 216: by Carl (new) - rated it 5 stars

Carl THE Da Vinci Code; sternly intriguing with its profound perfection! Dan Brown is exceptional.

message 217: by Carl (new) - rated it 5 stars

Carl Good thing Landon didn't get injured in the Da Vinci Code!A&D seems Langdon's shock within CERN's premise.

message 218: by Vinay (new) - rated it 5 stars

Vinay Ghosh I liked the Da Vinci Code more because the plot and the story was very good compared to Angels and Demons. Dan Brown is one of my favorite writers and I appreciate both books. My Shyvani

message 219: by Charlie (new)

Charlie Aguirrie I liked them both but aftee reading the books the dvc was a good movie but i didnt like how they took so many elements from a&d like the grandfather found w the brand and even the killer from dvc seems more lile the killer in the a&d book .......i think if those elements were added back to the a&d story it qould have been a better movie i also felt they didnt explain enough in the movie the way the book did. I know thays almost i.possible but at least explain key plot points better

Anthony Da Vinci Code, more fascinating

message 221: by Lissa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lissa It's incredibly hard to pick, but I'm a huge fan of Angels & Demons. It's pretty much my favorite book of all time. I'm currently reading The Lost Symbol and I'm loving it! Dan Brown never fails me, but I'm extremely attached to Angels & Demons.

Cut off from reading it and you reminded me

message 223: by Thomas (new) - rated it 4 stars

Thomas Personally, I liked the plot of Angels and Demons more. However, Davinci Code was better written. Both movies fell short of the books by miles.

message 224: by Harry (new) - rated it 3 stars

Harry Both are exciting action novels that keep you turning the page but surely it's the same basic plot in both books? If Dan Brown can get away with it then fair play to him.

message 225: by Thomas (new) - rated it 4 stars

Thomas That is so true about almost all writing. They are new plays on old themes. King Solomon wrote at Ecclesiastes 1:9
"That which has come to be, that is what will come to be; and that which has been done, that is what will be done; and so there is nothing new under the sun."
Thus fiction and real life tend toward some very basic common themes. It's also very rare that a writer will get you to say, "That's something I haven't seen before. Even my own writting can be considered derivative.

message 226: by Lissa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lissa Definitely get back on it! It's great ^_^ I also have Inferno sitting on my bookshelf, and I can't wait to get to that one.

Patrick Angels & Demons was far better, in my opinion. It's a better, more interesting plot, its pacing is better, and it's more unpredictable. I called the ending to The Da Vinci Code fairly early on, and thus I didn't like it much. Of the Langdon novels:
1. Angels & Demons
2. The Lost Symbol
3/4. The Da Vinci Code/Inferno

message 228: by Leslie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leslie Ann Da Vinci Code is much better

message 229: by Mitch (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mitch i loved all three books and the writing was very good. i dont read books unless they are amazing and those three were. and i cant wait to read inferno. but yes i liked angels and demons bttr because i liked the conspiracy alot and it was just really suspensful, although the da vinci code was great too

message 230: by Ritsky (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ritsky To me, both books have astounding amounts of historical details (and assumptions). In that sense, I like both.
The plot is a different matter. I read Da Vinci Code first, and back then I was like "wow"-ed by the story.
When I read Angels and Demons, I feel like I was reading another version of Da Vinci Code. I could guess the villain halfway through the book. The hidden villain, the woman-sidekick, they are so alike Da Vinci Code. If I read Angels and Demons first, I might think the same of Da Vinci Code.

Lakshmi I guess both the books were equally well written, but I feel a greater liking to DVC , maybe because I read it first.I felt that the murders were too gruesome in A&D for me to handle then. Also A&D storyline is much more complicated than DVC.In DVC I felt that the facts were more clearly laid out and they were much more simpler.

message 232: by Clive (new) - rated it 2 stars

Clive Hendelson I enjoyed A&D A LOT!!! So awesome, but, I didn't quite like TDVC . . .

message 233: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Martinez Angles & Demons is better because it is a very interesting read. The DaVinci Code is a lot harder to understand. Angles & Demons is also better because the Illuminati is very fascinating. The Davinci Code had a strange ending and the grail confused me

message 234: by Kim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kim Of the 2, I liked Da Vinci Code better.

However, as of right now, I prefer Digital Fortress as my favorite Dan Brown book.

I am currently reading Inferno... I can't NOT read one of his books... even if I feel like they are all very similar. I feel that some authors (Dan Brown, Jodi Picoult, Nicholas Sparks; to name a few) find their "niche" and just stay in that. So I can't read their books back to back like I can with other authors. I feel like I'm reading the same general story with different twists and (sometimes) different characters.

message 235: by Nathan (new)

Nathan I think that Angels and demon is way better than
da Vinci Code because there is more suspense and danger in angels and demon. In Angels and Demon, Robert had to solve the mystery of the illuminati in order to save the cardinal and find the bomb. This is much more suspenseful than solving the mystery about the holy grail and Mary Magdalene.

message 236: by Katie (new) - rated it 1 star

Katie Winkler Caiti wrote: "I really can't stand either, and see little difference between them. I read Angels and Demons in the hopes that it would be miles better than Da Vinci Code; it wasn't. It seemed like the same unfor..."

Totally agree, Caiti. The DaVinci Code is one of the most overrated books I've ever read. The other is The Help, but The Help had some redeeming qualities at least.

Dipanjan Pal Liked Angels & Demons more than The Da Vinci Code. But as a movie, The Da Vinci Code was better providing more details and the script was also better.

Ibrahim Both were pretty much exactly the same but i liked angels and demons better overall

Dimitrios Chytiris Well I thought the Code was kind of ok but it had so very many historical inaccuracies and I couldn’t stop laughing while reading it. Yet since it’s a fiction book and the story was indeed interesting I cannot but admit it did not bore me, it was fast and interesting.
Angels and Demons on the other hand, for me personally at least, was more complete the plot a great deal more complicated and pleasing.
In conclusion I say that Angles and Demons was my favorite between the two.

Pranshu The Da Vinci Code. Just left me breathless...

message 241: by sonya (new) - rated it 5 stars

sonya marie madden I read the Da Vinci Code first but loved both books really.

message 242: by Harsh (new) - rated it 4 stars

Harsh Rakesh Both novels have their moments. But while reading Angels and Demons I was able to connect with the story (then perhaps I was unaware of Christian prophecies and religion when I read The Da Vinci Code). Still I enjoyed Angels and Demons. it ha everything: thriller, suspense, Langdon, Brown's style, secret society, non-fiction knowledge (for me at least) and of course the fact that since Robert Langdon was introduced for the first time ever, the character was well defined. So I will pick Angels and Demons.

vaanathi da vinci code! it was mind-blowing!

message 244: by Gareth (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gareth David Angels and Demons all day long

Nichola St. Anthony I read both books but preferred the Da Vinci Code, maybe because I'm a painter.

message 246: by Salma (new) - added it

Salma Rammeya Angels and Demons. period.

message 247: by Bisera (new) - rated it 5 stars

Bisera Da Vinci Code is his best, but I still haven't read Inferno, and I kinda have big expectations for the book, so we'll see..

message 248: by Tanvi (new) - rated it 4 stars

Tanvi Nagwekar Angels and Demons....

Angelique Angels and Demons I think he took more time and he gave more back story.
