I liked Angels and Demons much more than Da Vinci Code. I thought the latter was too forced and pat. However, I liked Deception Point much better than either.
Just finishing up The Lost Symbol, read the others a while ago. Mr Brown does meticulous research and this is prob the main reason i have read them to see how it all fits together. They're all ok but only for the above reason. Lots of knowledge about stuff!
Meticulous research? I think not. Check out what a legitimate scholar, Dr. Bart Ehrman, has to say about it in his book Truth and Fiction in the DaVinci Code: http://www.amazon.com/Truth-Fiction-V...
I couldn't pick between them, but to me Angels & Demons seemed like a practice run for The Da Vinci Code. They appeared to follow a remarkably similar template. I enjoyed both of them.
My vote? Angels and Demons ... ;o)As for the movie version, I most always prefer the book over the movie - I did see Da Vinci Code as a movie, but was too creeped out by Angels & Demons to watch! Guess I have a vivid imagination ...
I liked both books, but never read the lost symbol. ever read Deception Point? Reading it now and having a hard time.

deception point z dan brown's weakest novel ever!!!
Angels and Demons was much better. I read Da Vinci first and thought it was a bit slow, couldn't understand all the hype about it; then went back and read Angels; which I thought was worth all the hype Da Vinci was getting!

Emily wrote: "...although the writing in neither of these two books is what we common-folk refer to as "good"..."I've seen similar comments made about all of Dan Brown's books. Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand those comments. And here I thought I was a "common-folk". Now I guess I don't know what "common folk" are. :-)
To me, "good" writing is when an author can draw me into a story in such a way that I'm thoroughly entertained and I don't want to put the book down until I've reached the end. I've read every Dan Brown book available and enjoyed them all.
When it comes to Code vs. A&D, it's almost a toss-up for me but A&D takes the lead by a close margin.
I love both, but Angels and Demons is much darker than The Da Vinci Code, and much more thrilling. The Da Vinci Code made you think as opposed to Angels and Demons which I couldn't get to the end quick enough. The Lost Symbol is on my to-read list and is hopefully as good as these two.
I prefer The DaVinci Code. I agree with many posters here that Angels and Demons was much deeper, but I liked the broad range of the Davinci Code better. I like that it not only made you think about a quite controversial subject, but gave ample historical references to consider. After the first few pages I was running for a print of the Last Supper, things you never notice that've been right in front of you all along.
Angels and Demons was more about the evil that men do - a great thriller, yes, but still a murder mystery at heart. TDC was a conspiracy thriller on a very very grand scale, with world-shaking implications.
As much as I breathlessly awaited the long-coming of The Lost Symbol I was sorely disappointed. I won't even mention it in the same breath with the other two. It could have been SO MUCH BETTER. :(
Sorry, I didn't like either one of the books....could not even finish Angles and Demons....and I struggled to finish The Da Vinci Code.(but, I was determined too)....
I preferred Da Vinci Code... It is a page-turner, I could not put the book down. Wish I could write like that
Both the books are amazing but The Da Vinci Code does have a more of a preferred edge over Angles and Demons. The Da Vinci Code consists of deep history references and a controversial elements. It does have an effect over provoking the thinking of the readers.
I really love all the Dan Bronw's books. But between Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons I think Da Vinci is better. But the best is actually The Lost Symbol. It was a great story :)
Definitely Angels & Demons.I really enjoyed Da Vinci Code as well, but A&D was just way more intense, excitingand the story is simply better.
Dan Brown is the best at this style of writting. He can write a book on the mystery of honey, and I bet you it will sell. He's that good. So 2 compare angels and demons is absurd. Both are good on the same level.
I like Da Vinci Code better. It was written in a certain style that does not bore even the laziest person. I love the free flowing sentence construction and of course, the story is very much intriguing. The Angels and Demons is also a great book and the plot is superb, I just found it less mysterious than Da Vinci
Ceanne wrote: "I loved both books and read them both in one sitting each, but preferred Da Vinci Code. My favorite of Dan Browns though is The Lost Symbol...just lLOVED it!,"The Lost Symbol sucked! I liked DVC, is the best out of all Dan Brown's books
I liked the book. The only thing that bugged me is the whodunit part. Dan Brown spends time in the bad guy character's head, so when the mystery is solved and the killer is revealed, we feel shortchanged because the villain doesn't seem to know he was the killer. That is cheating. I overlooked it in this book, but he did it again in the next book. It's an irritating gimmick. I haven't read him since.
I loved both books equally but in hindsight, Angels & Demons was written much more in depth. It gave the characters (new and old) a much greater existence in the plot of the book. Which was much more developed, as well.
I believe that both of the books were equally well-written, in all terms.. but Angels & Demons has a deeper storyline while The Da Vinci Code is simpler..... I believe Angels & Demons is better... But The Lost Symbol is definitely better than both of them.....!
I read Angels and Demons first and it was an eye opener for the genre I never had given a chance previously. I felt it was more rich than either other book in the trilogy.
Totally agree with you. Demons and Angels keep me hooked. The others following were okay and without the punch of the first. I question sequels.
First off all, I didn't read Angels and Demons just watched it. And read Da Vinci Code. Obviously book was perfect. Because book had more effective details. The first movie wasn't good enough but I hope that book is awesome! :)
To me, The Da Vinci Code was the better book. It had a good story line and the plot gripping. I felt that the author spent a lot of time on developing the characters and in the research. The story was also more focused i.e. solely on religion and didn't mix it with science. I also liked Angels and Demons, but have not read The Lost Symbol yet.
