Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Because so many of the categories are contingent on certain things happening in the story, here is a suggestion thread to help each other find good qualifying books.

Early Stages:
1. Puppy Love - Read a book where the h/H knew each other as kids and one of them had a crush on the other.

2. Young Love - Read a YA book with a significant romance theme.

3. Love at First Sight - Read a book where the h/H have an instant attraction or read a book that you bought because of the cover without knowing the author or reading any reviews (that's right. Just walk into a book store and buy a book with a cover you like. Don't even bother to read the blurb or the back. Come on, try it.)

4. Love's First Kiss - Read a book by an author you've never read before.

5. Blind Date - Read a book that a friend recommends. Unlike the PIFM challenge, you only get one pick.

6. Friends First (More Later) - Read a book where the h/H are friends for a long time before they become romantically involved.

7. Summer Lovin' - Read a book where the h/H meet on vacation.

Middle Stages:
8. Love and Marriage - Read a book where the h/H begin the book married.

9. A Serious Commitment - Read a book with at least 750 pages.

10. We're Comfortable - Read a book where the h/H have dated for more than three years but have never gotten married.

11. Keeping Things Interesting - You knew if I was putting a challenge together there had to be an erotica book in there somewhere. Well, you've found it.

12. Finding a New Home - Most families once they really start to get established, move/buy/build homes. Read a book that has a house building/refurb/rehab/real-estate as a significant plot element.

13. First comes love, second comes marriage, then comes Joey in a baby carriage! - Read a book that has a child between the h/H as a major plot element.

14. I love my job! - Read a book where something about either the h/H job is a significant issue.

The End and Beyond:
15. Sometimes we have to say goodbye to the ones we love - Read a book where either h/H is a widow/widower.

16. Death isn't always the end - With the wonderful world of PNR, the h/H don't even have to be alive! Ghosts, vampires, and zombies all qualify here.

17. My ex isn't dead. I just wish they were - Read a book where the h/H are divorced. Either one is fine.

18. I didn't know what I had until you were gone - Read a book where h/H had a relationship, were separated for a significant length of time, and re-connected later in life. They don't have to have been married the first time.

19. We've been together forever - Read a book from an author that you have read (and rated) at least 10 of their books.

20. The Golden Years - Read a book where the h/H are retired, a grandparent is a significant character, or one of the characters is over 100 years old (yeah, another nod to those PNR folks).

21. This can't be all there is! - Read the most recently released book in a series that you love.

Other Loves
22. Love thy God - Read a book where the h/H is an officer of a religion (priest, pastor, rabbi, high priestess of the goddess Boo - whatever).

23. Filial Love - Read a book where a parent of the h/H plays a significant role in the story.

24. Love thy neighbor - There is always the girl next door or boy next door stories. Maybe they grew up next door to each other. Maybe they just moved in next door. Either way, they end up doing more than just borrowing a cup of flour.

25. Love your pets - There is a pet in this story that is a major player in the story. Maybe the h/H is a vet. In any event, pets and animals are a major focus of this one.

Jane (PS) | 19613 comments What about M/M romances? They would appear to qualify, especially in the 'young love' period, but also in the areas where 'marriage' is not a requirement (although, of course, they CAN be married in certain states, in which case they would also qualify). Is my question a bit jumbled? Basically, does M/M count?

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Absolutely. I'm not going to limit someone else's definition of love.

Vi | 2012 comments OK, I'll kickstart the suggestions. They are all scavenged from the internets. Most of them are contemporary romances. I'm sure there's many many more.

2. *Anything for You by Sarah Mayberry
3. A Secret Love by Stephanie Laurens
4. Maggy's Child by Karen Robards
5. Again The Magic by Lisa Kleypas
6. The Fulfillment by LaVyrle Spencer
7. A day in April by Mary Lynn Baxter
8. Thunder Island by Meryl Sawyer
9. Summer By the Sea by Susan Wiggs
10. *Her Best Friend by Sarah Mayberry - qualifies for (1) and (5)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1934 comments when are people doing this and how many books do you have to read? This challenge looks interesting.

message 9: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 10986 comments Hi Leslie,

You have to read 12 books in a 120 day period of time- http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/7...

Not sure if there is an official start date or you can start when you want and have 120 to finish it. Waiting to hear from Jim on that.

~Melissa~ | 1852 comments a few suggestions:

Delicious #18 or 14
Irresistible #24 or 20
Sizzling #14 or #3
all three of above by Susan Mallery
Fifty Shades of Grey #3 or #11 by E L James

Jane (PS) | 19613 comments From a comment Jim made in the other thread - I think the challenge has started!... ?

message 14: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i'm declaring mine started as of today ;)

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Jane, you can start at any time, but I have put an end date of June 1. So if you want to wait for a couple of days, weeks, or even months, you can.

But I will probably start this week.

message 16: by Wan (new)

Wan (wanwaddell) | 2081 comments What about shifters? Would they be falling into the "Love your pets" category?

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I don't think so. There are certainly enough pet stories out there without another werewolf story.

message 18: by Wan (new)

Wan (wanwaddell) | 2081 comments Arrggg. Who say anything about werewolf...but that's okay. Thanks Jim.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Maybe if one doesn't know the other is a were and thinks it is just an animal...

message 20: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (last edited Nov 25, 2011 11:03AM) (new)

~KarenH~ | 6903 comments I need an opinion on the Puppy Love category. In Sweet Temptation, when the H/h first meet she is 16 and he is in his mid-20s. She has a mad crush on him, but he just sees her as his best friend's baby sister. He wasn't a kid when they met, but she was and she's the one with the crush - would that qualify?

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Works for me.

message 23: by Mojca (new)

Mojca | 1385 comments I have a question about the #15 category (Read a book where either h/H is a widow/widower.)

Does it still count if the h/H dies before they get married, so the other isn't exactly a widow/widower?

message 24: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 6903 comments Ok, I have another question. For the Summer Lovin' category, do the H/h both have to be on vacation, or can it be just one of them?

message 25: by Lacy (new)

Lacy (lacy_stewart) | 1864 comments Does anyone have suggestions for #22 Love Thy God? I am still coming up blank on this category...

message 26: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Lacy - if you don't mind mystery with some romance, you could go with In the Bleak Midwinter

message 27: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments anyone got any ideas for we're comfortable? (been together at least 3 years, no marriage)

message 28: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) Dee wrote: "anyone got any ideas for we're comfortable? (been together at least 3 years, no marriage)"

In Kushiel's Legacy series by Jacqueline Carey, two main characters are living together for a lot of years and are not married. Be warned - this is fantasy book. And trilogy with 700 pages per book. And they don't start living together until book 2...
I can not remember if I read any other book that could fit into this category. I really don't know what I will read for this. o.O

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) Lacy wrote: "Does anyone have suggestions for #22 Love Thy God? I am still coming up blank on this category..."

Lacy, if you are into historical romances, you could read one of the classics - The Thorn Birds.

message 30: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments ohh dragana, i hadn't thought of that one and I do have the second one in the pile to read

I tried googling romance novels and not married and got a whole bunch of christian websites about romance novels and porn...lol!

Glad I could help Dee. :)

When I tried googling for this category, all I got were guidebooks how-to-make-him-to-propose and similar stuff. LOL

message 33: by Lacy (new)

Lacy (lacy_stewart) | 1864 comments Thank you Dee and Dragana!
I actually finished this challenge already, but those books sound good so I added them to my wishlist anyway.
