Poly (xenphilos) From what I can access (only the except), I tend to agree. I wish the article wasn't behind a paywall. :/

Tina (javabird) | 675 comments Unable to read the whole thing, but the sense is that we need fiction: "stories are simulations of a kind that can help readers understand not just the characters in books but human character in general."

Which is probably why every single culture has stories that are passed down in some way, verbally or written.
