Historically marriage has varied widely, from polygamy to the wife-auctions of the 17th century, to the monogamy of today. Which type of marriage again is the one with sanctity?

MadgeUK None. Marriage is just socially approved prostitution. Bertrand Russell said: 'Marriage is for woman the commonest mode of livelihood, and the total amount of undesired sex endured by women is probably greater in marriage than in prostitution.'
