It's a different feeling if you read it one way or the other. If you read them the way they were written, you get the different stories at different times (and in a few different writing styles) if you read it in the chronicle order some of the things don't make the same amount of sense because some things he invented for a book written in 2008 were not nessicarily in a book written in 2004 and they could be right after or before each other in chronicle order. Brain Jacques himself suggested to read them in the order they were written.

Lol!! Mossflower is one of my favorites in the series, I've read it several times, I also like Mattimeo, it's one of the seasons the Animated series didn't completely destroy, that one stayed pretty true to the book. The first season and parts of the third they really didn't stay true to the book. Like in the third season, they made Pallum a girl!

Third season is Martin the Warrior, Pallum is a character in Martin the Warrior and in the book he's a guy, but in the season, he's a girl, I was disappointed in that, lol.

IKR?! I don't even see why they needed to do that, I mean, they had Rose for the girl character, and Pallum as a girl in the series is completely lame and pathetic, but oh well, can't change it. I just feel bad because they didn't do a fourth season and they were going to do Mossflower next, now that would have been a cool season, lol!
