Deyara | 113 comments I'm having trouble with South Korea: Read a book with a one sided-love, a LGBT romance or read a manga.

Any suggestions? I've never read manga before so I dont really know where to start with that, ane while I'm not averse to reading LGBT, I cant think of any off-hand to check out.

Deyara, what type of stories do you enjoy? Sweet? Angsty? Short? Long? Young adult? Adult?

Some LGBT romances you can try:

Midnight by M.J. O'Shea by M.J. O'Shea. It's a really sweet, short ghost story, a college-age m/m romance with a HEA. I believe it is also free on Goodreads.

You can also check out the various free anthologies of short stories that are offered free by the M/M Romance Group such as Stuff My Stocking M/M Romance Stories that are Nice and… Naughty by M.J. O'Shea and Don't Read in the Closet Volume One by Jade Archer

Cut & Run (Cut & Run #1) by Abigail Roux is a fairly popular series of two male FBI agents who initially detest each other, and end up falling in love. It's suspense/mystery.

Sno Ho (Sno Ho, #1) by Ethan Day is rather pricey but it's a really funny 2-book m/m story of a writer and a ski instructor.

If you enjoy mysteries, you might want to check out Adrien English Mysteries Fatal Shadows and A DangerousThing by Josh Lanyon , a 5-book m/m mystery series by Josh Lanyon.

If you like fantasy and want something more in the line of m/m love rather than romance, Mercedes Lackey wrote a Valdemar trilogy, the first book being Magic's Pawn (Valdemar Last Herald-Mage, #1) by Mercedes Lackey . Also check out Luck in the Shadows (Nightrunner, #1) by Lynn Flewelling . I don't remember whether the m/m love is revealed in the first book though.

Or, Mary Renault wrote a few ancient Greek historicals with m/m love. I remember reading The Last of the Wine by Mary Renault way back in high school. I think that was my first introduction to LGBT love, and I didn't even realize it. lol

F/F romance/love is not very popular, and not really something I am interested in reading myself so I have no recommendations - although I seem to recall there being a F/F YA book that had gained some popularity. Anyone remember the title?

I don't know if you can see this link (it's a private group), but it's a list that the M/M Romance Group created of books that they'd recommend to those new to the genre: Recs for New-to-MM-Genre

As for manga, there are many. I currently follow two:

Vampire Knight, Vol. 1 by Matsuri Hino which is primarily aimed at girls and Naruto, Vol. 1 The Tests of the Ninja by Masashi Kishimoto which is primarily aimed at boys

Ouran High School Host Club, Vol. 1 (Ouran High School Host Club, #1) by Bisco Hatori is fun, too. I think this series ended?

I really enjoyed Nodame Cantabile 1 (Nodame Cantabile) by Tomoko Ninomiya which is about classically trained student musicians. If you enjoy classical music, playing instruments or such, you might like this. I thought that this manga series was just a teensy bit more sophisticated than the ones I've mentioned above.

As for one-sided love, I don't remember reading much of that, usually because I find it tragic and I tend to stay away from tragic tales. I seem to recall one-sided love in A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens , though, but I don't think this plays a big part. Correct me if I'm wrong since I haven't read this book in years.
