Leanne | 2 comments When you travel to China for your research, you mention about going into area's that are hard to reach - little villages. (Most likely not a tourist area).
Do you have any trouble or resistance gaining permission to be in these areas? Also, do the younger generations in these villages - far from tourist areas - follow any of the old customs or traditions? Thank you!

I've never had any trouble going places in China. For Snow Flower, I was traveling to a closed area of China. I needed permission, and I got it. I don't think you need permission to go there any longer though.

In the countryside, as elsewhere in the country, some people follow traditions and some don't. It's sort of like here. Some people trick or treat and some do nothing for Halloween.
