Susan Miller | 2 comments What are some books you've recently read that you wish would be turned into a movie? My vote for this year is Angels of the Night by Paula Kennedy. We should start a petition or something lol. Angels of the Night: Discovery

Jacquel (clairevioletthorpe) | 127 comments It may not be paranormal or romance, but I say that the Charlie Bone books should be turned into a movie.

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 608 comments I'm at the point I don't want any favorite books turned into a movie. More than once I have had the casting take away my mental image of the characters and pretty much ruin my reading of the book. If it is a book I won't re-read (so not a favorite) it would be okay.

Nicole (sharearead) | 192 comments Couple of indie books I read recently that were amazing...

Blood Warrior (The Alexa Montgomery Saga) by H.D. Gordon

Enchantment by Charlotte Abel

I agree some times when they make movies from books you either love it or hate it. I think it depends on if the people doing the movie put good money in. My husband loves the Terry Goodkind books that they made in to a series, and after watching one episode it has put me off the books,

message 6: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (sharearead) | 192 comments I try to always separate them going into it. It is hard when it is a book you are passionate about but like everything else ultimately the book and the movie are up to an artists and or directors interpretation.

It's like true blood... I love the book series and the show is completely different. Take Lafayette for example, he dies in the first or second book (I think the first) anyway he is one of my favorite characters in the show and I'm so glad they didn't kill him.

On one condition all men must be at least six foot with a six pack, them quality's can let you forgive most things when it comes to casting;)

I'm in the "no, no, they will RUIN it" school of thought. Maybe if it was done entirely by an Independent Production Co. that wasn't answering to major money people. But again--where are you going to find the right ACTORS??? And the screen play--it would be really HARD to do a lot of books into a screen play. Most of the action in many books takes place entirely in the mind of the "voice" (especially first person ones.)

However, maybe an Urban Fantasy?? They tend to have a lot of action, so maybe. . . .

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 538 comments oh, and I forgot I think I heard they are making Darkfever... that should be intersting...

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 538 comments it will either be really good or suck eggs... one of the two

Nathalia (nenssa) | 24 comments My vote goes to the following:

Wit'ch Fire (The Banned and the Banished, #1) by James Clemens Maledicte (Antyre, #1) by Lane Robins The Greyfriar (Vampire Empire, #1) by Clay Griffith

However, if they decide to make a movie out of any of those books, then I do hope that they won't choose well-known actors to play the parts. Obscure actors are always the best in my opinion.

message 16: by Nanna -DD- (new)

Nanna -DD- I have a lot of books that I want to see turned into movies. But I'm also afraid this will happen. What If they ruin all you've imagined the book to be like???? That happened to my view of Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause . I don't mean to be a pessimist, but I just have a lot of love towards my fav. books, and I'd hate to see my 'imaginary worlds' shattered ;)

The stories of the Drake sisters by Christine Feehan or the highlanders series by KMM.

Are you talking about The Legend of the Seeker series? I loved that series. It actually got me to read the books. I read the first 3 and then I moved onto something else. Not really because I didn't like them but I half to say that I think I liked the series better. It helped that I thought Richard was pretty hot!

See I don't mind if they change the story lines from books to film/series as long as it is not too far out, but the people they have got to get right because I think when you read the books you have that image in your mind.

Michelle(Chelle) aka Nightshade - Cake Whisperer (michmag) I hear you BJS. I am a huge fan of Elizabeth George's Detective Linley novels and when I heard the BBC had made it into a series I was really excited. I turned the TV on to watch an episode and I was shocked to see this dark haired, so-so attractive man playing the role of my blond haired adonis Tommy. I shut the TV off right away and have never watched it.

I find this with covers for books, you would think people selling the books would at least know where the man is Dark haired with brown eyes, then the cover is of a blond guy with blue eyes. Makes you think who was in charged should be fired if I done a sloppy job like that.

Sigh, the problem with this is--the number of books that were RUINED when turned into screenplays so far out-numbers those that were well done as to be, well. . .

Think about it guys. Yes, the Bourne movies were, well, OK. Not great, but OK. But they COULD have been GREAT if the stupid people had just READ more than the first paragraph of the back blurb. (Personally I'd have sued to get my name off the movies if I'd been the writer, but that's just me.)

Then there was Dune (can we say that I'm sure that Frank Herbert was turning over in his grave?)

And we won't even TALK about the movie Beastmaster (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083630/) The Andre Norton book that this was supposed attributed to http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/46...) was a SCIENCE FICTION book, for God's sake, not a fantasy.

I could go on and on and on, but well, now lets talk about ones where they actually did a good job of intrepretating the books.

Um, well, can we say LOTR? But that's because the director was a major fan by of JRR Tolkein, or that probably wouldn't have happened.

And, while not totally faithful to the book, Jaws was actually a better than average intrepretation--altho they did leave a lot of the subcurrents out of the movie. (Yeah, I read the book AND saw the movie--what can I say? Major geek girl here.) :oP

Michelle(Chelle) aka Nightshade - Cake Whisperer (michmag) LOVED LOTR. I thought they did an excellent job with those movies. I love all the behind the scenes special features too.

As far as I know there were 2 books by that title by 2 different authors and they used the other one to base the movie.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 407 comments I am really apprehensive about the Fever series by KMM being made into movies. I don't think any actor could portray the Jericho Z Barrons I've built up in my mind...

according to http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0397044/f... it's the same book + the name that are used are the same as in Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause . Would seem weird if the film was based on another book but still use these names and author as a reference?? :D

ஐAndreaஐ (rosesrrblue) | 707 comments Wow! I had no idea they were going to make the fever series into a movie. It shows a release of 2013. Also being working on right now are City of Bones (2012) and as said above Vampire Academy (2013).

I love all three of these books and hope that they do a good job on them. I would be really sad to see them mess them up.

I would like to see that also, just know that HBO wouldn't do two vampire-centric shows. I could see it as an fx show.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 407 comments Re Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series being made into a movie, for some reason i always picture the guy who played Spike in Buffy (James Marsters) as Bones. I sorta thought that JF must have modelled the character on him.

To play Cat, the red haired actress Emma Stone would be good.

I still don't think that movies will be anyway as good as the books whether it be Fever, Vampire Academy or the Mortal Instruments. Maybe if HBO did it, it could be good, Games of Thrones was the best adaptation of a book to series I've ever seen!

message 45: by Grace (new)

Grace (fictionaladventures) they're making a movie of the mortal instruments!

@Lisa - I think Emma Stone would be a good Cat!

message 48: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 114 comments It's hard to say which book I would like to see made into a movie/series. I agree with some of the other posts most of the time they change so many things you start to wonder if they even read the same book.
I think they did a good job with keeping the Harry Potter series close to the books, but then J.K. Rowling had a lot of input in the manuscripts, but there are others ruin the books.

But then you take something like The Lord of the Rings. I love the books, they are some of my favorite of all time, but I think Peter Jackson did an amazing job with the movies, again they are some of my favorite movies of all time. They weren't exactly like the books but close enough that it satified the book lover in me. But I look at them as two entirely different entities and try not to compare.

I would like to see Fever (which as mentioned above has been optioned). Same with Kim Harrison's the Hallows.
But the one I think it would be easy and funny if done right is Katie MacAlister's Dragon Series, some of the characters would be great to see on screen and could be so funny.
You Slay Me (Aisling Grey Guardian, #1) by Katie MacAlister Fire Me Up (Aisling Grey Guardian, #2) by Katie MacAlister Light My Fire (Aisling Grey Guardian, #3) by Katie MacAlister Holy Smokes (Aisling Grey Guardian, #4) by Katie MacAlister Playing With Fire (Silver Dragons, #1) by Katie MacAlister Up In Smoke (Silver Dragons, #2) by Katie MacAlister Me and My Shadow (Silver Dragons, #3) by Katie MacAlister Love in the Time of Dragons (Light Dragons, #1) by Katie MacAlister The Unbearable Lightness of Dragons (Light Dragons, #2) by Katie MacAlister Sparks Fly (Light Dragons, #3) by Katie MacAlister

I agree about SyFy Lady D. They have gotten so far from what they were/are supposed to be. I mean, how does WRESTLING fit into Science Fiction? Unless they stage it there since the bouts are nothing BUT fiction. And some of the other things they show. . .
