I think this was a Harlequin Presents book from 1990 or 91' or 89 and it's about a Sicilian woman who works for her adopted father except I don't think she knows she adopted. Anyway she throws a party and this guy that lived with her when she was a kid briefly shows up. She used to have a major crush on him.
He leads her away from the party and takes her on a scavenger hunt where he leaves clues to not only seduce her but jog her memory about her real parents death in Sicily from an earthquake. Not sure where the book starts out at but it maybe London or America, then they go to Rome, and the book ends in Sicily, where she finally remembers being buried under rubble.
