Sounds like a good idea. Have been thinking of doing something similar.

F.J. Hansen (fjhansen) | 26 comments I'm working on a series of novels and novellas, which is, in turn, a part of a larger series that I've been creating for the past 12 years. My current series is about Draconia--a planet home to a dragon-like race, the Draconians, and a colony of Humans and their attempt to learn to co-exist peacefully.

Right now, I'm working on the third book. The dragons and colonists must defend their world from invaders who intend to exploit the dragons.

Elaine Turner | 4 comments Just finished "Animatae's Shadow" a short story that takes place in the same world as my Steampunk trilogy I'm working on. If you're looking for 8000 or so words to read while escaping the fam. today check it out, I'm always up for some constructive criticism.

Michael Henderson (michael_henderson) | 14 comments I found the font hard to read. I suggest that you don't use a so-called sans serif, but something like Times New Roman. There is a variation in the thickness of the letters that made it too difficult to read.

Cheers

Kevin Klehr (goodreadscomkevink) | 50 comments I've just been assigned my editor for my first novel (originally self-published but to be re-released mid year).

My first time working with an editor so not sure what to anticipate.

The sequel to my first novel is completed and waiting in my hard drive for a fresh re-read down the track.

message 107: by Lori (new)

Lori Strongin | 26 comments As an editor myself, the best piece of advice I could give is really listen to what he/she is saying. They're not out to get you, or have you rewrite the book in their voice, or any of those popular misconceptions. If you don't understand what they're asking, shoot them an email to ask. Editors don't bite--I promise! :) Also, if you're starting to get frustrated or angry with the notes the editor give you, save your file, close it, and take a walk to clear your head. Give it some breathing room, then come back and try to see things from the editor's point of view.

And congrats on going trad pub with your book!

Cariniao | 13 comments Hello I'm Carinia (you can call me Cari)I also love reading and I came to this forum to help a friend of mine, Patsy Rivera. She is an author and she is doing wonderful and amazing things!!! She is in the process of writing a Children's book/she also writes adult books. and she has vowed to donate books to the St. Jude Hospital for sick children every time she reaches 500 fans on her facebook page. It is people like her who have such generous hearts and such a giving nature that make life so much brighter for these children.
I hope that you will go to her fanpage and like it and read more about her book "Wendy and the Witch" it will be comming out in the Spring of 2012. Here is the link: http://www.facebook.com

message 110: by David (new)

David Fleming (davidwallacefleming) Cariniao, I tried going to Facebook to like the page but a great deal of results pop up for Wendy and the Witch. Perhaps you could post a direct link to the site. Thanks.

For the past few months, I've been trying to perfect the "short-story-as-a-blog-post" (a problem that's been plaguing authors since the beginning of the internet). I've tried to make my short-stories very short, funny and have been incorporating some of the same fun techniques used on twitter and by other bloggers.

Here's my site for anyone interested: http://davidwallacefleming.com

Lori, thanks for your advice. Really appreciate it. Originally I paid for three assessments with an amazing woman who helped heaps over the novel's many many drafts. Hopefully my editor will be just as helpful.

Have been rushing to my email every morning to find notes but as yet, haven't heard from her. Dying to get started!!!

Margaret Chatwin (margaretchatwin) | 2 comments Am I the only one with writer's block around this place? Reading what you’ve all been writing makes me jealous. :) Wish I had something to write. Keep up the good work everyone.

message 114: by Lori (new)

Lori Strongin | 26 comments SF author Linnea Sinclair once told me that there's no such thing as writer's block. Instead, the feeling of not knowing what to do/where to go next is a sign you've fallen off the plot wagon. So the best cure for it is trace the plot backwards and see where it stopped working.

Jeanette Hornby (goodreadscomuser_jeanettehornby) | 81 comments I dug out an old manuscript and have been working on that while I leave my WIP to 'rest'. Sending it to an editor, hopefully, next week.

message 124: by Mari (new)

Mari Mann (marimann) | 14 comments I'm working on my 2nd novel which began as a short story called Coyote Moon and has become a novel titled Call of the Coyote. It is set in the Southwest USA and follows a disparate group of students on an archaeological dig, and how they transform themselves, through facing fear and adversity, into a unified group, working together to survive and grow.

I hope to be having an author Q & A here soon, to take questions and hopefully get some suggestions for this work in progress, and to talk about my first novel,

Bonne chance to all working here!

Everly Anders | 87 comments I am currently putting my four short stories into a collection, so I can release it in paperback. So far, I have only released them for e-readers. I am really interested to see if I notice my numbers go up significantly by offering paperback. I wasn't going to do it but I have over 3,000 followers on my Facebook, and they have been asking me, so I am going to give it a try.

Any thoughts?

Christos Tsotsos | 7 comments I don't know what goes on in my mind but recently I feel like all I am writing is porn. I am close to finish this story about a fed up young academic that finds work as bar staff in a brothel. In the meantime there is a little theatrical play in his head with Odysseus being the main character that somehow manifests into a real person, escapes Ogygia and finds his way as a punter in that bar and becomes obsessed with one of the girls named Penny.

It all works well apart from the interludes of pornography but I like the contrast, then I hate it, then I write more of it.

I am a few months away from the ending, I can see it, it is almost there but not quite.

message 135: by Jeremy (new)

Jeremy Kline | 4 comments I completed the sequel to my novel Lazarus Cane by Jeremy Kline , which will be called Micheal Faust (a Lazarus Cane Novel) and I am 21,000 words into the third novel which I think will be called Cassandra Gates (a Lazarus Cane Novel). The series means a lot to me, but not wanting to be type casted in to only one genre, I am also working on a 'tear jerker' novel about the lives of 3 stepfathers over the span of 3 decades.

answering questions about book 4 is rather fun and has given me ideas for book 5 as I write it.

Richard Davies | 8 comments I'm an author and would like to get someone to read my book, "The Heirloom." Fortunately, it is now part of the Kindle library on Amazon.com. This means, should you own a Kindle, you can borrow this at no cost!

The book is about the post oil era and the recovery of the United States by the original inhabitants. The first in a three part series, it has garnered top reviews!

Just hit the link: http://www.amazon.com/The-Heirloom-

message 138: by Dixon (new)

Dixon | 5 comments The Assassins Club - a breathless serial killer vs serial killer romp - was published as Kindle on Dec 24, and I plan to release the follow-up by late 2012. Am also working on another thriller, titled Montana is Burning, to be released on Kindle in May 2012. Both novels take place in the 1970s, before DNA testing and many of the technological advances seen on CSI and other crime shows.

I enjoy having 2 projects in the works, because if I run into a wall on one, I can switch to the other - and the solution to the earlier problem often comes without my working too hard on it.

Both of my fans are also encouraging me to publish a book of the 370+ country song titles in my collection.

I'm dying to plough on with it, but most of my available time it currently taken up with promoting the first one and announcing the publication of the second one. I'm beginning to wonder if the more books I write the less time I will be left with to write more?!

Adair (trynda_e_adair) | 17 comments I am currently working on my next vampire book and i'm almost done! :D it is more of a proper book than the first short story i published and i'm dreading the idea of typing it out on the computer. It still need a title, maybe it will come to me soon :)

message 142: by Nick (new)

Nick Marsden (nepharid) A couple years ago, I finished my first prose project. A little history: I have trouble with completion. I've started and stopped dozens of projects in the last 20 years or so. But this project was special. It was a serialized fantasy story that I posted weekly on a website I built. It was a story in three "volumes" called "The Book". The problem with this was that I wrote and posted each episode (meant to be read in about 15 minutes) separately without much forward planning. Turned out the story I ended with was much different than what I had originally planned.

Well, I decided to take that story, work through a solid outline and make each "volume" of 13-14 episodes into one novel. Hence, "The Never-Born Trilogy" was born. The first Volume will be complete in the next month, and I hope to have it pubbed in ebook form by the end of April.

Here is the blurb for "The Book of Nepharid: Volume 1 of the Never-Born Trilogy":

When the powerful and sinister Book of Nepharid is stolen from Gaelan No-Blood's master, Ulrich, Gaelan and Ulrich are tasked with bringing the thief, Anton Stormhand, to justice. With the help of the mighty unicorn, Michael, and his bonded Rider, Ariel Boreen, the wizards set out to confront Stormhand and recover the Book.

But the quest is doomed to fail and Gaelan alone will remain to follow Stormhand to a strange new world, with only the Book of Nepharid in his possession. But the Book holds dangers, too. Soon Gaelan is forced to protect his new home, Los Angeles, from a rampaging monster, protect the Book from Stormhand's evil intentions and find a way home, all while occupied with the enigma of Allison McCarthy, an Earth girl with a mysterious connection to Gaelan's homeworld.

I'm polishing the fourth novel in a cycle set in Egypt (and written way, way out of order - #4, #3, #1 and now #2). I think it will be ready to publish in about six months, give or take. (And may I insert a heartfelt Thank You!!! to Scribner?

The series, which spans two centuries, starts with

The City of Refuge

And ends with
A Killing Among the Dead by Diana Wilder
A Killing Among the Dead

I have a cover already set up for it:

Joyce Harmon | 17 comments I'm working on my second mystery, Bidding On Death, a sequel to Died On The Vine. I wrote Vine back in the mid-90s and never submitted it anywhere, so a couple months ago I published it at Smashwords as an ebook. Since Vine takes place in 1996, I've put the sequel in 1998. Maybe if I write one or two a year and jump a couple years each time, I can get caught up to the present one of these days. I hope to have Bidding On Death out sometime this summer. In the meantime, here's Died On The Vine:
