I can't help but create clutter. But I like to spray 409 on the kitchen counters.

I'm like you Annie. My daughter-in-law laughs at me. She knows when my husband is going away for a week or so because I clean like mad the first day that he's gone so that I can enjoy a nice clean house. She'll walk in and say, "Oh, Dad's going away?" I don't know how one person can make such a mess.

I need to wash my baseboards, I noticed today. I don't know how they are resistant to the vacuum somehow.

Crossed 12 things off my to-clean list, 26 to go. I just scrubbed the bathroom sconces and the bathroom sink.

::sad::

A couple years ago I moved into an old farmhouse that we inherited and am re-modeling one room a year. Our master bedroom was the bedroom of a gentleman with Alzheimers and he would frequently urinate in the floors and his caregiver would put down paper but not change it regularly. Now there are large black spots in the hardwood floors.

How often do you vacuum your sofas and upholstered chairs?

message 58: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
never. Sweeter does it.

message 59: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11852 comments You're supposed to vacuum those?

message 60: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Phil wrote: "You're supposed to vacuum those?"

If you sit on all of them, often, you wouldn't have to vacuum because your body would not allow dust to settle. If you go for awhile without sitting on them, or if you're only sitting on one part, dust will gather on the parts where you're not sitting.

Laurin (llooloo) | 1867 comments My bedroom is a mess. I just never feel motivated to clean it. Sometimes I will, but it only lasts about a week. My bookcases are extremely clean and organized. My closet is color/garment organized. My truck is really messy/dirty. I guess I fall somewhere in the middle.

Another solution is to have slipcovers and launder them, then the upholstery stays very clean.

I probably do this job once a month. Everything looks so much better when it's finished!

I have to find the upholstery attachment to my vacuum, then I can finish the job. If you have people coming over and you need to get the dust off your sofas very quickly, packing tape works well. I suppose a lint roller, with the sticky on it, would work too.

After you clean your stainless steel kitchen sink, do you dry it? Then do you oil it? Super clean people dry and oil their steel sinks, apparently.

message 70: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Oil? Of this I have never heard.

message 71: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24816 comments Mod
Yes, Flylady wants you to oil your steel sink.

message 72: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I don't see that.

message 74: by Phil (new)

I went to Flylady's site to see if it had any helpful tips, helpful instructions...I found it difficult to navigate, poorly organized, and I was turned off by her insistence that you have to be dressed head to toe, including lace-up shoes, and have your hair and makeup all tidy, before you start cleaning. Sorry, not going to happen. I wear whatever I want to clean, and I'm not wearing shoes and socks. I'm in my flip-flops. I do not wear shoes and socks in summer. I'm not fixing my hair or putting on makeup just to clean. Also her insistence that you have to get up 1/2 hour earlier in the morning than your family. (I think the site must be aimed at married women with families, or men with families who are concerned about their hair and makeup.)

I've seen worse. Your closet is actually very well organized but you do seem to have run out of room there, and it looks like you need a little short bookcase under the window. I'm going to diagnose your problem as "too many clothes." I have the same problem.
