Anna and Liz... where are you?
Please PM me, thank you.
Please PM me, thank you.
Anna, please contact me. If I don't hear from you by tomorrow (Thursday) morning (my time) I will chose the second place winner as this month's group read for category 1. Thanks.

Death in the City of Light does not appear to be readily available in the UK so sadly I can't join in with this one. I looked up the case and it sounds fascinating if a bit gruesome. I guess I will have to wait until Feb 2012 when it will be published here. I will follow the discussion though.
Have you managed to find it in the UK. My bookshop said it wouldn't be available until next year. Maybe I will need to keep hunting.

Would you be willing Debra? (Although it doesn't seem to be available everywhere... I do wish people would read the rules and nominate accordingly!)
Or perhaps someone knows Anna and can give her another nudge... I've sent two messages.
Jane, the thread will remain open indefinitely, so you can come to the discussion later, even if it's not quite the same thing.
ETA: did some research and Anna has 5 friends, 3 of whom are authors, so she is probably a publicist, and I am very tempted NOT to use the book she nominated.
Would anyone like to comment on how we should proceed? Read the Cornwell, or use a different moderator?

I'd like to vote for reading the Cornwall. I haven't been able to find the other either. Can we put it on some kind of wait-list?
Which Cornwell is it? I have read them all before but would be quite happy to do a re-read especially if it is one of the early ones.
I have a feeling I've read it before but I'd go with picking Cornwell's Postmortem. At least it's available in most places.
It's the first, Postmortem. And the race was so close, really...
Let's do this: Read Postmortem, and see if Anna turns up and she can moderate the book she nominated at a later date.
Will leave this thread open and if anyone else would like to comment, please feel free to voice an opinion.

I would LOVE to read Postmortem. I was so bummed when it didn't win and I purchased the book. It actually was a paperback that has the first 3 in that series. Mind you, for $0.99 + 3.00 shipping and handling extremely cheap and figured I would read it anyway. ;)

I'd be willing to host Death in the City of Light. I have it coming from my library loan network and should have it within a week. I'm flexible.
What a coincidence! I just got word from my library that Death in the City of Light: The Serial Killer of Nazi-Occupied Paris was ready to pick up. Totally independent of this poll.
Advance Reading Copies, Hardcovers, and eBooks available from bookstores and eBay. Hardcover on Amazon for $16.94, Kindle $12.99
Same prices on Barnes and Noble for hardcover and Nook
eBay has a few, one auction starting at $7.00, no bids, ends in 3 days.
Half.com prices higher than Amazon.
Abebooks has some inexpensive Advance Reading Copies.
My local library didn't have it, but they belong to an extensive inner-loan system, so I was able to order my copy from another library and have it sent to my main library. I'm lucky to have this option; it's rare I can't find a book, no matter how old or obscure.
Hayes: I'll moderator if you think we will have enough members who can participate.

I'd be willing to get you a copy, list it on Amazon or eBay and sell it to you. Amazon charges International buyers $12.49, and eBay sellers set their own shipping rates, within reason. I'm sure we could work something out to get you a copy of book for under $20.

Sorry Debra, I should have sent you a PM. See message #67. I have decided to go with my "second place book" rule, which I put into place exactly because there are so many Publicists and Authors who nominate their books for the advertising and then disappear.
Lucy will moderate Postmortem for us and if you would like, you can nominate "Death in the City" after February, when it will be more widely available (see the "suggestion" under rule #5 regarding availability of books).

No problem. Just was thinking I'd help out if you needed someone to.
Thank you, that was thoughtful. That's what I like about this group. :-)
(I do apologize for any inadvertent brusqueness. I'm a little busy these days... playing the one-armed paper hanger.)

I have already read Postmortem, and have placed a hold at my library for Death in the City of Light (apparently very popular, as I am 3rd on the list, and there are 7 copies between the various county lbraries!). I am looking forward to reading the Dante Club. It looks interesting, and I should be able to pick that up next trip to the library.
Also, Death in the CIty of Lights is available on BetterWorldBooks.com which ships free world-wide...
Noeleen wrote: "I'm looking forward to reading Postmortem I've never read any books by this author"When you tackle the entire series, the books become too similar and it loses some of what has made the series so popular. For a first-time reader, you should find it fascinating.

Hi back Sandy.
If you're nominating, the nomination period is over. We'll start nominating for Nov/Dec towards the end of the month.
If you're recommending, you should go to the recommendations folder.
If you're reviewing, you should go to the review folder.
If you're advertising, you should go to the author's corner folder.
Thanks.
And generally speaking, one message is enough. :-)
