Sadie Forsythe | 23 comments Hello everyone. I would love to find a few new reviews for an action adventure/fantasy. It's called The Weeping Empress, is 252 pages long, and available in all formats.

The Weeping Empress by Sadie S. Forsythe Synopsis:
Chiyo Alglaeca was happy in her life. That is, until it was all taken away. Forced into notoriety, stalked by a mysterious cult, hunted by the emperor, and facing betrayal at every turn she clings to the only safety she can find: two enigmatic men and the sharp bringer of death, Salvation. The Weeping Empress explores the devastating effects of loss, the hunt for redemption, and the price of destiny. It questions the true meaning of evil and asks what monster is not also an innocent?

I'd be happy to provide a copy to anyone interested in reviewing it. sadie@sadieforsythe.com

Thank you

C. Anderson (christineanderson) | 2 comments I'd love, love, love some more reviews for my edgy YA novel, Life of the Party. I can provide a free e-book copy in any format if you're interested. Life of the Party by Christine Anderson

Here's the blurb:
Seventeen-year-old Mackenzie Taylor can't wait to be free; free from high school, the shadow of her perfect older sister, and her disapproving parents. The rebellious party girl has a perfect accomplice in best friend Riley, a boy from the wrong side of the tracks who scores them drugs, booze and under-age entry into the only club in town. But then everything changes. A traumatized Riley suddenly decides to give up the party life, and a wide-eyed Mackenzie meets Grey Lewis, a broodingly talented, gorgeous older man she falls instantly in love with. Though Riley warns her to stay away, the aspiring rock star's body and ample drug supply are too tempting for her to resist. Previously inseparable, Riley and Mackenzie go their separate ways.

When summer hits, Mackenzie has new friends, a new apartment and new drugs to mask the pain of Riley's absence. And of course, she has Grey. But despite the fierce, consuming passion they share, the mysterious bad-boy always leaves her guessing. Is Grey really a good guy? Or was Riley right about him all along? Mackenzie's in too deep to care. Unable to curb her mounting addictions, before long the lust-for-life teen totally loses control. She forgets Riley, forgets life, forgets everything but Grey and their next hit.

But luckily for Mackenzie...Riley has never forgotten about her.

Thank you!!!

Celia Vogel | 1 comments Greetings,

I would love to get a few new reviews on my Chick-Lit/Y.A. novel, Jilly-Bean. It's currently available only in the Kindle format. I will gift a copy of the book to anyone interested.

http://www.amazon.com/Jilly-Bean-eboo...

Here is the synopsis:

Temperatures are rising and superstition reigns supreme!

Eighteen year old Jillian Crossland has her life planned out. Or so she thinks!

Despite her better judgement, a séance one evening sets a blueprint for disaster when fate
steps in and shakes up her plans and her life!

Jilly-Bean is a novel that explores contemporary life in the throes of global warming and on the edge of madness.

Michael Kingswood | 2 comments Heck yeah I'd like a review.

Masters of the Sun

Here's the blurb:

Ten years after the Troubles that ended civilization as we currently know it, isolated settlements of survivors have resumed trade and are beginning to rebuild. In the small settlement of Glennville, Jack Simmons lives as a hunter and trapper with his friend and mentor. Haunted by and unable to move beyond the lingering pain from his losses during the Troubles, he nevertheless has found a measure of contentment. But when the trade caravan brings word of a mysterious and mystical enemy in the west, he finds himself thrust on an unwanted journey with a man he doesn't trust to discover the source of this threat and how to counter it. On the mission, the ever-growing wilderness filled with bandits, a young boy in need of a mentor, and a mysterious band of purported magic users combine with his own inner demons to challenge him in ways he's never known before. Fast paced and action-packed, Masters of the Sun is the story of one man's perseverance in the face of adversity and of the rebirth of magic into a crippled world.

If anyone's interested, send me a message. I'll be happy to either send you a Smashwords coupon or just email it to you in whatever file format works.

Thanks!

Just a reminder to those who are looking for reviews... Post a short little blurb about your book, tell us who your target demographic is, and so on.

Me, personally, when I mention I'm looking to help someone by offering a review, I like to know how many words the story is, what genre, and whether or not the author is willing to provide a review copy in exchange for a review.

While not a requirement, it certainly helps me decide when I see a book that catches my interest and the author has specifically mentioned that they're willing to send reviews a copy of the book.

Just a thought.

Interesting premise! Would you say you have a lot of humor in your book, Terry? Just reading the description almost sounded like a demeneted Abbott & Costello.

I'm intrigued enough where I'll go download a sample to see if its something I'd like. Hmmm, can you provide a link on Amazon?

Thanks again for the additional info!

Thanks, Terry!

Hey, did you set the price for your ebook? I thought I was looking at the print price first. If possible, I'd consider dropping the price a little. To tell the honest truth, it's been a very long time since I purchased an ebook at that price.

I started out with a large price, too. No sales. Dropped it to $5.99. I was lucky to get one sale every other month. Dropped again to $2.99. Sales took off. Yeah, you get better royalties at the higher price, but if your sales are minimal, you'd much rather get more sales and a smaller royalty for those sales.

Just my own two cents!

Big J.

Mark Underwood (mkunderwood) | 1 comments Hi all,

My debut novel is available on amazon in ebook format at:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Lives-Nob... or
http://www.amazon.com/The-Lives-Nobod...

I'm looking for anyone to do some reviews - positive or negative I appreciate the feedback!

The blurb is as follows:
-----

I can’t die, at least, not in the traditional sense. Every time I’m killed, I wake up with a new body, in the same place. Over and over and over again.

How did I discover this? I was forced to kill myself by the evil bastard who I used to call my boss. He knew the struggles I was facing, and he exploited them.

But he didn't know I would be coming back.

This is my story. This is my revenge. This will not end well.

----

As you can probably tell it's a dark revenge thriller with some supernatural elements. It's just over 60,000 words long.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Daniel McHugh | 7 comments Could use some fresh reviews. I just lowered the price of my introductory novel BOOK I of THE SERAPHINIUM:The Merchant and the Menace in celebration of the release of Book III.

Book I of The Seraphinium Series can be found at:

The Seraphinium: The Merchant and the Menace

Now only $0.99

You can visit my Goodreads author page to see book trailers and learn a bit more about my series.
Daniel McHugh

The Seraphim. Beings of power, created to guide the world in times of trouble. They live their lives of near immortality in servitude to a lesser creature, man.

One rebelled. Amird, the Hand of the Creator, bridled at the sovereignty of his lord. In defiance he murdered a brother and was cast into the Mists of Chaos.

Millennia passed as the Deceiver plotted his return. Backed by the might of a seemingly unstoppable army of Ulrog Stone Men and their fire-eyed Malveel Lords, Amird plans to wrest control of the world from the Creator and rain violence on the humans he once served.

All that stands between Amird and his triumphant return are the remnants of battered human armies and the hope that Seraphim, loyal to the Creator, still roam this world.

Kael knows little of this struggle. His quiet village lies deep in the Southlands, unchanged and unchallenged by the wars raging in the frozen North. In fact, the boy longs for a bit of adventure and freedom from the boring routine at his father’s inn.

Freedom comes at a cost. Kael’s first journey outside his secluded village results in a tragedy so deep it destroys the boy’s sheltered world and immerses him in the struggle.

Revelations surface. Kael uncovers a past linking him to legends, grapples with a present that resembles nothing he knows, and confronts a future that demands he tap long dormant power and stake a claim in the defense of the human races.

Kael’s first step toward that future lies through the darkness of the Nagur Wood, and rumor has it something prowls the Nagur!

THE MERCHANT AND THE MENACE is 503 pages of epic fantasy geared toward those who enjoyed Tolkien, Brooks, Eddings, Lewis etc. There is no age target, but the series contains scenes of warfare and bloodshed.

Additionally, potential reviewers can send a request for a gifted copy to the e-mail on my website (found on my author's page). I will route gifts to the first 50 reviewers through Goodreads via their e-mail.

Thanks and good reading.
Daniel McHugh

Lynn Hardy (lynnhardy) | 23 comments Hey, I'm Lynn Hardy - a indie author.

I had a run in with the Amazon forum an got totally blasted with bad votes and even a 1 star review - the forum crony even announced before hand that they were buying my book just to give a bad review!

Sorry, didn't mean to vent. But my star rating has been trashed so I'm desperately looking for some reviews of my book:

Genre: YA Fantasy with a hint of suspenseful romance.
Words: 123,000

Short Synopsis:

Five strangers zapped into a magical world, changed into people they were pretending to be. The wannabe heroes struggle to form a cohesive band and save the kingdom of Cuthburan.
Here's a link to my book on Amazon:

(Notice all the one star reviews with lots of helpful votes?)

And my goodreads page:

I'd be happy to trade reviews, and I'd love notes on any typos you find!

Yeah. I was on the "Meet the Authors" forum as "Jaymikal". Apparently you are not allowed to put a link to your book in the signature line. I always included a link because I figured it'd be nice to help others find my book in case they were interested. I certainly wasn't holding a gun to anyone's head to make 'em click on the link.

But apparently that was taboo, and some dolt reported me. Amazon yanked my posting privileges. I bitched and squawked like crazy to get back on there. Took about three months. They finally relented. Jerks.

Anyway, it was right about that time when Scott, from another Amazon thread, created this group and asked me to co-moderate with him. It's been a lot of fun ever since!

Amazon has pretty much made their forums unfriendly for any indie author, so I really don't frequent the forums any more.

I changed the blurb at the back of my books to say that instead of looking at Amazon to find me, come find me on Goodreads instead and even posted a link to my blog.

And I know what you mean when it comes to reviews. There are some big name authors out there who really don't like to see Indie authors do well, and will deliberately leave a bad review just to make you look bad in an effort to slow down your sales. I realized as soon as my sales picked up that there would always be some bad apples.

I just got a lengthy 2 star review earlier today from an author that clearly didn't like the book. Well, that's fine. I know I can please everyone. People are entitled to their own opinions. Thankfully most people who read the book like it and are thereby encouraged to purchase the 2nd. It's a technicque that I picked up from another Indie author, Lindsay Buroker, and has worked very well for me.

Lynn, that'd be great! Thanks for the offer!

And for getting your book free on Amazon, it can take a little bit. Get it free elsewhere first and then let us know. We can start pestering Amazon to price match it. That's what I had to do. :)

message 227: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Hardy (lynnhardy) | 23 comments @ Scott - Thanks for adding mine to the pile ;) I'm sure it will work it's way upward eventually.

@ Jeffrey, I've been working with a blogging group and they insist that authors are much harder on books when reviewing than readers. It may be that like actors - there's always something we could have done better :)

I try and take a "reading for enjoyment" attitude when reading for reviews. That being said, do you want a list of any typos I happen to find? If I happen to find them?

Even though I had my book professionally edited by an editor from Wizards of the Coast with a bestseller to her credit, I'm sure there may be some. Especially since I just tweaked it to match the screenplay I finished last month.

Oh... just got an email from Amazon. Seems they've checked the forum posts and the review and find nothing amiss.

"I reviewed all of the discussion posts in these threads. I understand your concerns, but the posts don't fall outside of our guidelines... Additionally, I've read the review on your book, "Prophecy of the Flame - Love's Dawning." I understand your concerns, but the review doesn't violate our posted guidelines.

Great. Someone can say they are going to buy the book, just to give it a horrible review and do just that, and there's nothing Amazon will do about it. I'd love to comment on the review, but I'm afraid that would just inflame the situation once again.

In case I didn't say it earlier, thanks for creating this safe haven for SPA... I think I needed the shelter more than I knew :)

BTW... how do I contact you to give you a review copy?

No it was Andrea Howe. She gave me some great pointers that helped me get some of the mess cleared before she got to work on it.

A big one is no double punctuation!! Not even?! She said choose the ? and leave the ! for the readers to interpret.

There were many instances of not trusting the reader. I had to learn to lead them and trust that they'd get the feelings through the words.

If you've never had a "professional" edit by an someone working in the the industry for years, it can be better then a college course!

I know exactly how you feel! I'm not the best at catching typos - every time I go through my book I dink with it... many time - wham - a new one! Yikes!

According to L.E. Modesitt Jr, (bestselling author with 60 books out) no one can catch all errors, not even professional editors. If you catch 99.9 percent of the typos, you will still have 5 of them in a book of 500 pages.

Lee started out as an editor, and is a brilliant writer - On one of his forums I saw this comment after a "fan" listed his typos in the latest book.

True. What I usually end up doing is that if I "find" enough typos after I've already released a book, then I'll go through and update the ebook and will deliberately update the print edition. It's important to me that print edition and ebook edition are exactly the same.

So, it doesn't happen often, but I have been known to redo editions to correct minor little mistakes.

Sean McLachlan | 68 comments I'd love to get some more reviews of my Civil War horror novel A Fine Likeness. My target readers are people who like accurate historical fiction with lots of action and a dash of the paranormal. It's 95,000 words long, so I'm sure there's a few typos in there I'd be happy to hear about.

Blurb:
A Confederate guerrilla and a Union captain discover there's something more dangerous in the woods than each other.

Jimmy Rawlins is a teenaged bushwhacker who leads his friends on ambushes of Union patrols. They join infamous guerrilla leader Bloody Bill Anderson on a raid through Missouri, but Jimmy questions his commitment to the Cause when he discovers this madman plans to sacrifice a Union prisoner in a hellish ritual to raise the Confederate dead.

Richard Addison is an aging captain of a lackluster Union militia. Depressed over his son's death in battle, a glimpse of Jimmy changes his life. Jimmy and his son look so much alike that Addison becomes obsessed with saving him from Bloody Bill. Captain Addison must wreck his reputation to win this war within a war, while Jimmy must decide whether to betray the Confederacy to stop the evil arising in the woods of Missouri.
