You would just add it to the existing series listing with a 0.5 number to mark it as a prequel story.
Just out of curiosity, how would you number a prequel to a prequel? In this case, if the author wrote something as a prequel to Instinct.
Just play with the numbering, if the new prequel takes place before the first prequel make it 0.4 if it plays afterwards 0.6 if they play in the same timeframe it's just a further 0.5 :)
That's what I would do. In the end it's just to give the reader a feel for the reading order / timeline.

But I understand now. :o)
Hmm, I never actually created a series.Question: when you click on the series link in the book description do you get an edit button in the upper left hand corner?
Because that seems the only way to add books to a specific series.

Thanks! So, if the timeline isn't clear, it would be publication order right? Or if the two prequels cover the same time, it would also be order of publication.

Yes, I do, but when I click edit it tells me "only a Goodreads Librarian can do this".
It's coming as as being part of the series. And if I go to the book's page and click on the series link it shows me both Instinct and Darkness & Light as being in that series, but it's not showing up as such on my profile--only Darkness & Light is showing as being part of the series.
Ah, I see, I always assumed that series could be added to freely.I did add "Instinct" to the series now, so I guess it should appear as part of the series on your profil the next time it updates (I hope so, I couldn't find a documentation how series actually work).

Yes, that would make the most sense for readers.
