Assassin's Apprentice is such a good book. Robin Hobb can do no wrong. I'm currently reading A Fistful of Sky by Nina Kiriki Hoffman. It's ... okay so far. I'm 120 or so pages in and so far it seems like an ugly ducking story, but with magic. I'm hoping it picks up soon.

I don't know about your statement on Robin Hobb. What about her Soldier and Son Trilogy then? Did you like that trilogy? Because I know a fair amount of people who loved all her other books, but hated the trilogy.

Would I re-read it as often as I do the original Farseer trilogy? Nah.
I really enjoyed Assassin's Aprentice, I read it 12 years ago, it was funny what I remembered/forgot.
On Fortress of Eagles now and was quite confusing at first with another 'waif' that has a 'power' and connection to a king. I normally read through a series but i'm trying to stick to the schedule!

I am re-reading the Sword of Truth series, and I full expect that to flow into October (and maybe November if I get really busy). I haven't read them in quite a long time, and it's fun to sort of rediscover them. Plus, I want to remember the story fully before I read the last in the series (I know I'm late!).
I finished Kafka on the Shore last night. I liked it a lot. It took me on an enjoyable journey. :) Now I've just started The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
I have just started 'The Broken Kingdoms' by NK Jemisin. I enjoyed the first one. Very different. And I've just given up reading "The Red Tree" by Caitlin Kiernan. I only got a third of the way through and was bored to tears and very disappointed that the blurb didn't match what was inside the cover. Not to say the lady can't write, it just annoyed me immensely. There has been a lot of controvesey lately about writing gay characters. I don't have a problem with that at all. If something is well written I don't care 'what' they are, only 'who' they are. It is readers' choice though, so please, let me know in advance that what is inside the cover is a self-pitying journalistic story about a lesbian and don't fluff it up by calling it something else.

I've read all of Robin Hobb and liked most of them but agree with others on this post that the Soldier Son Trilogy is weaker than the rest of her work. I'm currently reading The Inheritance by Robin Hobb/Megan Lindholm. It's a collection of short stories that span her whole career. So far, so good.

My treat to myself this Autumn is to re-read the whole of the Malazan Book of the Fallen before I read the final one. Can't wait!
I finished The Dragonbone Chair, started The Stone of Farewell but got bored about halfway through. That's when I started my reread of The Curse of the Mistwraith. And not at all sorry. There is so much I'd forgotten and the story is so intricate, that it's like unpeeling more layers after thinking I'd discovered all there is.
Oh dear! I read Game Of Thrones book 1 and segued straight into book 2, which I have just finished. I WANT to read book 3 straight away, but if I don't pace them out I'm going to run out.....and then what!I've started Ship Of Magic but I'm still living in Westeros. Sorry Robin, I love you but GRRM has fair stolen my heart!
Maybe I shouldn't have gone cold turkey and eased off on another medieval novel.
Maybe I will just read book 3.........
I started The Magician King by Lev Grossman last night and I'm enjoying it so far. It is been a nice change of pace from the non-fiction I've been reading.
Masha wrote: "Am reading "Enna's Burning" by Shannon Hale, the sequel to "Goose Girl". It's really excellent but I'm in a very dark section now and almost afraid to go on reading!" Masha, enjoyed those books a lot got the audiobook from audible.com and Princess Academy is a nice one too by Shannon Hale. Check this out Gail Carson Levine's "Fairest"- Love it.

Don't worry, jump into Kvothe's world- first book "Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss. Enjoy!!
I have good news and bad news Beth. The bad news is GRRM is not a young man and it took him SIX years to write book 5!! (6.The Winds of Winter 2012. We live in hope?)The good news is.... I still have 3 books to read -LOL!
Thanks for the recommendation, but Kvothe and I have already met. It was good, but not great. After GRRM, everything else is just....good.
Just finished the last of the three books in the Deverry series by Katherine Kerr that I bought at Borders, The Shadow Isle (Silver Wyrm, Book 3) & (Deverry Dragon Mage, Book 6). I recently got The Enchantment Emporium, which I've read several times from the library, and Tanya Huff's latest, The Truth of Valor, which I just started.
I just finished The Caves of Steel on audio. I still like The Foundation series better, but it was good. I'm looking forward to listening to the next book in The Robot series. Next up on audio is Neverwhere. It's my first Gaiman!
Jenny wrote: "I just finished The Caves of Steel on audio. I still like The Foundation series better, but it was good. I'm looking forward to listening to the next book in The Robot series. Next up ..."Check out the DVD series as well.

Next up ..."Your like the Robot series a lot better once you read Robots of Dawn. It shows how Asimov is truly the best writer in science fiction.
I'm reading The Giver, The Stone of Farewell, On the Jellicoe Road, and Witchlanders. I have this bad habit of jumping around between books, so that's what's happening now. None of them have really grabbed me yet, although they're all good so far.
I keep rereading the chirurgeon scene in Kerr's The Shadow Isle (Silver Wyrm, Book 3) & (Deverry Dragon Mage, Book 6)
I just finished Changes by Mercedes Lackey and I really hope there is another installment. I love this series, it has the feel of her earlier stuff and that makes me so very happy. The end left some serious holes though and that leads me to hope that there will be more forthcoming!

Jenny wrote: "Whaaaat? There's a DVD series? Also, I saw on multiple twitter updates today that FOX is making a Caves of Steel movie..."The DVD series of Neverwhere I'm guessing. BBC production from a while back; I liked it. I've also enjoyed the BBC production of Gormenghast (they just did the first two books) and the two Discworld movies I've seen.
My last few reads were Dune, I Don't Want to Kill You, His Majesty's Dragon, and Catch-22. All of them were pretty enjoyable reads.Next up is Throne of Jade.
Few weeks ago, I'd just read the Iron Queen by julie kagawa and Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly. Right now, am reading magic under the glass by Jaclyn Dolamore. Also, am waiting for the releassd of Iron Knight.

I am hoping to read
College life seems to take up most of my time these days, but I think I can sneak in a couple hours here and there for this book. Really enjoyed the first two books in the series, and I can't wait to get my hands on this one.
Just finished Jack Cloudie
, which was thundering good adventure, and now I'm going back to Tad Williams' Shadowmarch series with Shadowrise
, the third volume. [edit: d'oh! I originally linked the second book rather than the third. Too many shadows.]
I'm going back to read Stephen R. Donaldson's old Chronicles of Thomas Covenant series. I stopped reading it when I began writing two fantasy novels of my own: I was worried that I might accidentally be influenced by it. Now, I can go finish it. After that, I've got to catch up with more recent fantasy.Malcolm
Finished Wolfheart a couple days ago, now about 1/4 of the way into Imajica 1: The Fifth Dominion (I've had Imajica 2: The Reconciliation on my shelf for years, but never got around to getting the first book of the set).
I finished Leviathan Wakes and Dead to the World and I really liked them both. I'm now reading Flashforward. On Kindle I finished Heart of Darkness and now I'm reading Ready Player One.

Oops, I misread the post. I know there is a Neverwhere miniseries, I thought they were talking about Caves of Steel. Silly me.

Nice, what you think of Assassin's Apprentice?
