What do you like/dislike about the "unlovable" Ms. Eyre?

As a young girl, I related to Jane because she was intelligent but no great beauty.

A friend recommended The Wide Sargasso Sea. I haven't read it yet because I'm afraid it will ruin Jane Eyre for me. Has anyone read it?

Trish | 1 comments I most admire her unshakable confidence and sense of self-respect. This trait seems to serve to equalize her relationships with others (such as Rochester, and even Aunt Reed).

Hope Well, I have to say that I admire her for saying what she did to Rivers because I probably would have said No thanks and not even tried to be his friend again, so I was glad that she did what she did.
