Beth Hi,
I recently joined the group and have been slowly feeling my way around and reading posts. I'm now comfortable enough to post finally. :)

I am a mystery author, with one book available on the Nook so far: Deadly Currents Deadly Currents (An RM Outdoor Adventures Mystery, #1) by Beth Groundwater . It's the first book in the Rocky Mountain Outdoor Adventures series starring whitewater river ranger Mandy Tanner. Here's some of the favorable reviews it has received:

"Readers who enjoy fast-moving stories and wilderness environments will keep turning the pages of this promising series debut."
-- Booklist Online, January 24, 2011

"Groundwater kicks off a new series that combines outdoor action with more than a modicum of old-fashioned detection."
-- Kirkus Reviews, January 15, 2011

"With a fresh locale and a spunky … heroine, this is a promising new series by the author of the gift-basket designer Claire Hanover mysteries."
-- Library Journal, March 1, 2011

"Groundwater’s novel is filled with river lore, vivid descriptions, and loving depictions of the varied characters who make up the tight-knit community."
-- Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, June, 2011

"This was a wave-smashing soak-yourself-to-the-bone ride and I’m looking forward to the next adventure in this energizing series."
-- Dru’s Book Musings, March 17, 2011

"The amiable cast, along with Groundwater's fascinating firsthand knowledge of rafting, makes this a series worth watching."
-- Mystery Scene Magazine, Spring, 2011

The second in the series, Wicked Eddies, will be released in May, 2012.

I also write the Claire Hanover gift basket designer mystery series, with two books out so far, A Real Basket Case, which was a finalist for the 2007 Best First Novel Agatha Award, and To Hell in a Handbasket, released in 2009. Midnight Ink is re-releasing these books on the Nook, then will continue the series after that. The first will be in November: A Real Basket Case A Real Basket Case by Beth Groundwater

I love to read as well as write, and I read widely, outside of and including the mystery genre. My TBR pile is hopelessly long and ever-increasing. I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you here.

Diane (dcl55) | 29 comments Hello Beth,
Welcome and thank you for sharing the news about your new book.
Deadly Currents sounds like a book I would enjoy. I will look at B&N for an edition to read on my Nook.

Best Wishes,

Beth Many thanks to ezine Mysterical-e for the great review of my Deadly Currents mystery novel! Go to the website ( to read the whole review, but I loved the last two lines, "There's lots of suspects, plenty of excitement, and even some time for romance. Groundwater knows her business and has made this not only exciting but also realistic."

Beth Hi everyone,
I just wanted to let you all know that the Goodreads giveaway for the trade paperback re-release of my mystery, A Real Basket Case, has begun (it will be available as an ebook, too). This is the first book in my Claire Hanover gift basket designer mystery series that was a finalist for the Best First Novel Agatha Award. Here's a couple of review blurbs:

This will appeal to Desperate Housewives fans and those who like cozies with a bit of spice.”
-- Barbara Bibel, Booklist Review, February 1, 2007

“Drugs and jealousy add up to a Rocky Mountain murder. A tense, exciting debut.”
-- Kirkus Review, January 1, 2007

You can enter the giveaway at:

Beth Hi everyone,
I want to let you know about my new release coming at the beginning of May, Wicked Eddies, the second book in my RM Outdoor Adventures mystery series.

Here's the blurb:
Fly fishing is dangerous? River ranger Mandy Tanner had no idea until days before a huge tournament in Salida, Colorado. True, the Arkansas River can be a man-eater, but the rapids weren’t responsible for driving a hatchet into the neck of would-be competitor Howie Abbott―a secretive man who may have been cheating. While casting about for suspects, Mandy seeks clues from Abbott’s family members, including her best friend, bartender Cynthia Abbott. But when Cynthia becomes the prime suspect, Mandy realizes she’s wading into deeper, more hazardous waters than ever.

I hope you'll add it to your to-read lists! Also, my Goodreads Giveaway for a copy of Wicked Eddies started today! Enter here:

And, I've opened up my Q&A group to discussion about the release. Please join the group and post your question at:

Beth Whoo hoo! I'm excited. Kirkus Reviews came through for me again with another good review for one of my books. They gave away quite a bit of the plot of Wicked Eddies (release date May 8, the sequel to Deadly Currents) in the body of the review, so I'm not going to quote it all here, but here's the last line:

"Once again, Groundwater, mixing mystery with outdoor adventure, comes up with an excursion that will please most comers."
-- Kirkus Reviews, May 1, 2012

PS. Thanks, Michelle!

Beth May 8th is the official release date for Wicked Eddies (An RM Outdoor Adventures Mystery #2) by Beth Groundwater Wicked Eddies, but I know it's already on some bookstore shelves because some store owners have contacted me and asked me to sign stock. It's available for order on the Kindle, and the Nook page should be up on the release date or soon thereafter. I hope you'll all join me in celebrating the release by lifting a glass wherever you are!
- Beth (Beth Groundwater)

PS. May 8th is also the date when my Goodreads Giveaway contest for a copy of the book ends, so if you haven't entered yet, do it now!

Beth I'm doing a happy dance for this great Publishers Weekly review for Fatal Descent Fatal Descent (An RM Outdoor Adventures Mystery, #3) by Beth Groundwater , the third book in my RM Outdoor Adventures mystery starring whitewater river ranger/rafting guide Mandy Tanner. The book won't be officially released until June 8th, but you can order copies now. Phew, now that I've got at least a couple of good reviews for it, I can relax!

message 19: by Beth (new)

Beth Hi everyone,
I hope you'll join me in celebrating the release of the third book in my RM Outdoor Adventures series, Fatal Descent. Like the previous two books in the series, it has received good reviews, such as:

Groundwater’s third entry (after the Left Coast Crime Rocky Award finalist Wicked Eddies) is marked by an outdoorsy intensity and authentic sports chatter sure to resonate with Nevada Barr readers. Her methodical, gentle buildup mirrors the river’s course so that when the characters hit the rapids, life jackets are a must.
-- Library Journal, June 1, 2013

The tension runs high in Groundwater’s absorbing third RM Outdoor Adventures mystery … Scenic descriptions and folklore add atmosphere to a suspenseful tale.
-- Publishers Weekly, April 8, 2013

Beth I'm thrilled with a recent review that compared Fatal Descent, the latest release in my RM Outdoor Adventures series, with mysteries written by Nevada Barr and Dana Stabenow, both authors I greatly admire! As the reviewer said, "Groundwater has written yet another exciting and suspense-filled mystery that speeds along with a swift pace to its extremely compelling conclusion." You can read the full review on the Kings River Life Magazine website. You can also enter a contest there until August 10th to win an autographed copy of the book!

Beth Hi everyone,
I invite you to celebrate with me and lift of glass of your favorite beverage for the release yesterday of my sixth book, A Basket of Trouble, the third mystery in my Claire Hanover gift basket designer series. I celebrated by hitting the slopes of Breckenridge ski resort, which opened yesterday morning, and dining out with my husband last night, because his birthday is also this week.

The critically-acclaimed book takes place in Colorado Springs, CO, and features horseback riding and hippotherapy. Go to: for the book blurb, reviews, excerpts, discussion questions, and "buy me" links. I'd really appreciate it if you would add the book to your to-read list on Goodreads (and read it!).

The trade paperback version is available on the Barnes & Noble website, and the Nook version should be up in a week or two.
