I watched this only after having read the novel. There have been some pretty liberal changes to the source material. However, this is a classic "old" film that does capture the tone of Wells and features delightful performances from Claude rains (mostly a vocal performance) and the wonderfully histrionic Una O'Connor. This one is a treat and a treasure.

What a glorious maniacal laugh! This one is going on my to-watch list.

Hayes (hayes13) No kidding! I can't believe I have never seen this. And how great is Claude Rains? I recognized him instantly even under those bandages. To be able to act an entire film without once showing his face.

Great actor. Have you seen him in The Phantom of the Opera (as the Phantom)?

Hayes (hayes13) Nooo! Damn... why don't they have Netflix here!

I'm a big fan of Nelson Eddy -- great singing in this version. I'll have to check netflix. It's been a while since I've seen the film.
