A church-state watchdog organization filed a federal lawsuit seeking to block TX Gov. Rick Perry's promotion of an evangelical prayer rally.

MadgeUK It certainly seems unconstitutional for this Governor to promote and be so heavily involved with such a rally although his attendance at it (silly though it is) should be permissible. Presumably, he will also have spent some state money promoting it and this would be illegal too?

Yes, he is allowed to attend as far as I know. The trouble is that he is using his position as governor to promote the event (event info on his government website, promotional videos, etc) which is a definite violation of church/state separation. I'm not sure about having spent state money, although I think I may have heard as much recently.
