"Just at home. My parents got sick of me being differnt and shipped me off here." she shrugged.

Ryder nodded, "Yeah...I know the feeling."
Ash played with the zipper on her jacket. "Is anyone in your family...like us?"
Ryder nodded, "Just one."
Ash smiled slightly. "Who is it and what can they do?"
"My...brother. He can....stop...things." Ryder muttered, eyes fearful
Ash shivered and looked at him, not liking how he said it. "Stop things?"
Ryder nodded, grim. "He started out with watches, he can stop time as well. He stops things in motion mostly. Cars, trains, swings, swinging doors. He stops...other things as well."
Ash instinctively took his hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. "sounds...dangerous."
Ryder shrugged, "He's not the nicest of people."
Ash bit her lip and nodded. "Does he go here?"
Ryder shook his head, "No. He's just a kid."
Ash was secretly happy about that.
Ryder, agreeing to her face, "Yeah."
He shook his head, "don't be. He terrifies me."
Ash shivered. "Let's talk about something else. Like what do animals talk about?"
Ryder grinned, "What do people talk about?"
Ash chuckled. "The weather? Life?"
"Exactly. Animals aren't too different."
Ryder laughed, "Although, they don't go to malls."
Ash laughed. "What, they don't have malls of their own?" she teased.
Ryder chuckled, "No. sadly."
Ash chuckled and looked around. "So, what else is there to do around here?"
He shrugged, "Go to class."
Ash nodded. "What's class like?"
Ash raised an eyebrow. "How so?"
Ryder chuckled, "imagine a bunch of strangely talented kids all in the same room."
Ash pictured it and giggled. "I guess you're right. That would be pretty strange."
He nodded, "Especially when Jesse's in class. He stops time at the strangest moments."
Ash smirked. "He can stop time?"
He nodded, "Yeah. He can also fast forward it...which is almost worse."
Ryder shrugged, "Like talking to animals is normal?"
"Touche," Ash chuckled. "But it just sounds more manageable than stoppoing time or fast forwarding it."
He nodded, "Some people have easier skills than others. Dempsy's a healer and he's just messed up"
"What do you mean?" she frowned a little.
"He has a terrible immune system." Ryder laughed, "Which is pretty ironic."
Ash chuckled. "That's kind of sad"
He nodded, "Yeah well, I guess we all have our problems."
Ryder laughed, "This should be interesting"
"because, school always is." He grinned, heading into the building
Ash chuckled and followed along behind him.
