Brad Theado | 217 comments Have you ever thought about starting a Sword and Laser Award. Everyone else does it, and you see a good bit of publicity around it.

You could have your standard - Best Book of 2011 award, but then you could also have some funnier ones like Best Urban Fantasy not Featuring a Vampire, Alien you would Most Want to Date, Sci Fi Book You Wish Would Never Get Turned Into a Movie, just to name a few.

You could call the award the Swaser award (Sword + Laser).

What other strange awards could we give out?

Kris (kvolk) I think we need a "It Happened in Space" award.

Kris (kvolk) Also a "He/She said What!?" award for one author. It can be a face palm...

Anne Schüßler (anneschuessler) | 839 comments I like "I'd want the world to end that way" - the only problem I have is whether to take it literally or if it's just a good description for the best dystopian/(post) apocalyptic novel.

message 10: by Blindman (new)

Blindman | 9 comments Best use of the hero's journey
Dresden award, for next character / religion / myth to be put in a gritty urban setting.

message 11: by Skip (new)

Skip | 517 comments Other award suggestions:

The H.G. Wells Award - for best use of a Time Machine

The Kurzweil/Hawking Award - for best use of a Singularity. Technological asymptotes and black holes are both allowed.

The NSFW Award – for the best use of [censored] with [censored] and [censored] or [censored] and [censored] on [censored]. Or any book that made you buy Blackwater. <>

The Kitty! Award – for best use of a were-creature or furry.

aldenoneil | 1000 comments I thought from the title we'd be awarding Sword and Laser members. I was disappointed.

This made me laugh, a keeper for sure.

Back in my college days, we had a forum called CasCon and there were different actions named after members. Like if you were the only person online, that'd be "pulling a X." So we could have that kind of thing too, if it would make you happy. :)
