Lauren Smith The epic challenge is for 500+ page tomes - the epic novels we sometimes shy away from especially when trying to complete other reading challenges. You only need to read one 500+ page book in the 3-month period to complete the challenge, but you can read as many as you want and list them here, with the number of pages you've read.

Happy reading!

Can anyone explain to me why so many books are just a few pages shy of 500 pages (or a 1000 for that matter since we need to read that for TDRC)? It is starting to annoy me. The next two books I am thinking about reading re both just a few pages shy of 500 and it makes me want to scream!

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments Haha, so many of the books I've read since the beginning of this challenge have been just a few pages too short too. All you can do is sigh, I suppose.

And now that I'm done with the 1000+ page task (where I had no idea what to read and ended up reading something I didn't much feel like), I keep finding books of 1000+ pages I really do want to read. Figures.

Hey Lauren, Are we going to get a new discussion for october-december? Please :)

message 12: by Lauren (last edited Oct 03, 2011 12:30AM) (new)

Lauren Smith Aaah! Sorry! Three months always seems like such a long time and then I forget about this. Will make a new thread in a moment.

Rankings for July-September:
Epic Overachiever: Barbara - 4849

Mohammed: 4298
Kahlan: 3327
Crusader: 2767
Lauren: 520 (reading did not go as planned...)

I forgot to update my list, but I think all the books I read fell short of the 500+ mark. Darn, book reviewing is killing my game....

There are three I missed.
Line War: 566p
The Left Hand of God: 500p
Leviathan Wakes: 561p
And then there was one that missed it by 2 pages!

So my actual total is a meager 2767 pages.

Lauren Smith Lol, mine too sometimes. It's hard to fit it in with challenges.

So, true! Now I really need to stop messing about and get to work...

I really didn't read that much. I had planned on several more books that I never even started.

message 17: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Well you still had the highest page count :)

message 18: by Naz (new)

Naz (nazz) | 615 comments Darn I meant to read more. I just didn't seem to have time. Notice how we (by we I mean me) start off so optimistically at the beginning of the year and then sort of just peter out?

My total is 678 pages.

I know and then I did have the same problem as Crusader that some books just missed the 500 pages count. Ah well. There is a new period and new changes to read what I planned.

Mohammed | 126 comments I can't believe I managed to read that many. I find it really hard to start reading a large book. It's only because I wanted to finish the series.

message 22: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments With large books I find it hard to even read 100 pages a day. But smaller books (300 pages or less) I can sometimes finish in a day. "This book is so looong, I'll never make it through! Better read these four shorter books instead." :)

Exactly. If I can start the book and get the hook in the first few chapters I'll read it non-stop though.

I also hate books with hundreds of chapters. Even if they're short it just feels like too much.
