Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) July 2011: Comic Con International- Read a graphic novel or a comic book.

*Clarification- To get points for comic books, the page total needs to equal at least 100. You can combine comics to equal this total.*

Enjoy!!! (Sorry couldn't think of anything clever to say that connects to comics... It is late...)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments I read March Story, Vol. 1 by Kyung-Il Yang, which was rocking. :)

message 13: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Just finished Girl Genius Omnibus, Vol. 1 by Phil Foglio. Another great one. Steampunky too.

message 14: by Heather (new)

Heather Bree (blackdotbug) Love Girl Genius, Kristen. I picked that one up at the Stumptown Comics Fest this year. The author was signing and they also had prose books for sale. When we inquired he said they wrote the Girl Genius story out in prose for those "fans" who wrote and told him that they really wanted to read the story but thought the art was atrocious. Apparently it's a comment he got frequently enough to comply.

I read Taster's Choice, the first volume of Chew, by John Layman

I've been meaning to read this since it's on the Teens Read list. Why is it rated M for Mature?

message 19: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Been on a roll with this new manga series by the guy who did Deathnote:

Bakuman Bd. 1 by Tsugumi Ohba
Bakuman, Vol. 2 by Tsugumi Ohba
Bakuman 03 by Tsugumi Ohba
Bakuman 04 by Tsugumi Ohba
Bakuman 05 by Tsugumi Ohba

It is REALLY good. :)

I also read:

Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour by Bryan Lee O'Malley

message 20: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Cathy- Stitches has some graphic drawings and content, so it is definitely mature but not too much for teenagers. It is VERY VERY good.

Okay, so 9 points altogether so far for July. Wow Kristen :)
How was his new series? I love Death Note.

message 22: by Kristen (last edited Jul 24, 2011 08:09PM) (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments It was totally awesome Kellee. Definitely different though. It's about creating manga with some romance and another intricate storyline. And there is an L-like character who is a manga genius. :) Much <3

So, I've read s'more manga.. another new fave series:

Library Wars: Love & War, Volume 1 by Kiiro Yumi
Library Wars: Love & War, Volume 2 by Kiiro Yumi
Library Wars: Love & War, Vol. 3 by Kiiro Yumi
Library Wars: Love & War, Vol. 4 by Kiiro Yumi

I love this series too, it's about the future where libraries are under attack by a different group who wants to censor books, but the library fights back and has their own police force. And there's a cute budding romance. Love it. :)

OH and I read a bunch of other stuff too... :)

Demon Sacred, Volume 1 by Natsumi Itsuki
Uzumaki, Volume 1 by Junji Ito
Gimmick!, Volume 1 by Youzaburou Kanari

Kinda in a manga mood lately, can you tell? :-D

message 23: by Kellee (new)

message 37: by Jesi (new)

Jesi (pwnedkitten) | 198 comments Seeing as we're *not* restricted to YA, I actually have stuff for this one! And, seeing as I'm reading graphic novels at night, I'll have more to add. Awesome.

I've never finished the movie or the book..... Should I?

I liked them both. The book was weirder than the movie, and that was admittedly pretty weird. The book actually had some moments where it hit me emotionally, which surprised me because the movie was just "superhero fun" to me. I finished it on September 11th, so the whole end-of-the-world thing was kinda tough reading material... I think if you can't get through them, it's not a loss.
