Hope McCain (hopemccain) Hi all, I'm Hope. I love a variety of genres but I tend to lean toward just a couple the majority of the time, so my hope is that this group will help me to "remember" all of the different options. :) I just finished my second degree so I finally have time to read for FUN again.

Hi, Marcia. I understand the issue of not having much time till after the move. My husband and I are getting ready to put our house on the market towards the end of this month and are in packing mode in preparation for a move South later this year.

BTW, the first thing I looked for, in the new area on our visit last year, was the library. And, yes, I visited and acquainted myself with all the amenities, even though we were not moving until this year

Judeanne | 4 comments Hi All,

I'm Judeanne, from just outside of Philadelphia.

I like to think there's a wide breath to my reading but none of us are truly that well-rounded. Currently, I'm immersed in musician's memoirs, the classics and some sociological theory.

I'd given up on modern fiction for the longest time but a friend recommended The Art of Racing In the Rain. It was as beautiful and meaningful as Jane Eyre or any of the classics I've been reading (except for Jane Austen... no one comes close).

Looking forward to chatting with all of you....
Happy reading.

Robert Jones | 19 comments Howdy y'all. I'm Red from Martinsville, VA now living in ENC. I've never done anything like this before, but as I'm going through some major life changes I thought it would be good to find some new friends. I'm looking forward to meeting fellow book lovers and participating in the pick a shelf monthly topics read. Scattershelves alo looks really interesting if I can figure it out.

Julia (juliace) Hello All - I was a member of this group a few months ago, but quit due to personal issues preventing me from participating as much as I would have liked, so I am now rejoining.

Jennivie | 11 comments Hey, everyone!

I'm an about to turn 33, stay at home mom who left her husband but as of a day ago, has come home. Hoping things stay this great. My son is 5, sweet as pie but impatient with a temper. We all live in the Township I was born in near Detroit, Michigan, USA.

My genres in both reading and writing are widespread. I enjoy reading- though I don't read nearly enough these days, and I better start because I have online classes that require a bunch of classics, like Dracula-, writing, crochet, knitting, and drawing. I happened to spot this group last night and I'm up and running, joining challenges and all. I have an ever-growing to-read pile and many partially read books that I want to get through this year, before another 200 get added. Love the things I've seen in this group already. I can't wait to get started!

~Jennivie

message 762: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Good morning,

I am an avid reader with an unfortunate tendency to fall into ruts and to get too wrapped up in things that ultimately become distracting. I used to participate very actively in a couple of the larger reading challenges here on GR - then things happened, life changed, and I can no longer devote the kind of time or energy such activity requires. For now, though, I am looking for just enough structure to keep me out of the ruts and weeds, and hoping this will be the inspiration and companionship I need to keep finding new and interesting things to read.

On a personal note - husband, two kids, two dogs, job, suburbs, and an annoyingly short attention span for hobbies.

-Melissa

@Jennivie: best of luck on working things out! Relationships are hard work but good to hear things are looking better and I hope it will continue to be so :)

Kat Chen (katc28) | 7 comments Afternoon,

I'm a high school student in California who grew up loving to read. Unfortunately with the tougher curriculum, I have lost the time. This year, I have made a New Year's resolution to read much more and therefore am participating in several challenges as well as writing more reviews.

Thank you! I'm also looking forward to tackling some of these challenges with you all.

Thank you. I've been with my husband on and off for about 17 years total. 8 years married and coming out of our second separation. I'm hoping this time we can work together instead of against one another.
My apologies, I'm a bit of an open book online.

Nenia Campbell (neniacampbell) Hello! I'm Nenia and I just joined because I was going through my groups and realized I wasn't in a whole lot of reading ones (mostly social ones). message 781: by Alexa (new)

Alexa (alexbm9) Hi! Blessings to all.
My name is Alejandra and I'm Mexican. I live in Mexico, naturally. I'm 29. I'm a Languages teacher, translator, althought I haven't still published nothing, I write. So, is it okay if I say I am also a writer? On the top of that, my love for books began as I was very little and increased for the last couple of years. I find some genres more appealing than others. However, I am more than willing to open up to anything new.
For instance, my tastes are science (biology, environment, astronomy, quantum physics), non-fiction, historical novel, thriller, suspense, metaphysics, teenage, poetry, politics(so far not one of my top favorites but I don't want to be an ignorant on the field), anthropology, archeology... We live in a very interesting and beautiful world, inspite of everything.

Anyway, just happy to be part of a club. About a year ago I tried to cofound with my sister a reading club, you know, it didn't work out. Here in Mexico is unusual, but not impossible, finding people who really love to read. So, I had to pospone it for a while. Therefore, imagine how thrilled I am.

Love and blessings to all.
And happy reading week.

Alex

message 785: by Edīte (new)

Edīte Hello, I`m Edīte. I have been on goodreads for over three years and decided that it is about time to spice things up and get out of usual reading cycle. I will see how it goes, because in high school had been struggling to finish books what was mandatory to read. Not like they were bad or that I didn’t enjoy reading in general, but that choice what to read next was taken from me.

message 787: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 380 comments Hi, Amanda, working mum of 7yo girl from Melbourne, Australia. Studied Literature at Uni, was going to be an English teacher, but found it wasn't really for me as the course wore on.

Working my way through the 1001 list, as well as Pulitzer and Man Booker lists, with an edited version of the Rory Gilmore reading list thrown in ;)

Signed up to GR years ago, but have only been really using it the last 2 months, when I discovered groups, especially groups with challenges, which I have found is really helping me get through that TBR pile, and makes me thinks that little bit harder about my reading choices.

Obsessive library book sale, secondhand and op shop book shopper :)

Welcome to the group!! :)

@Amanda: do you go to brotherhood books? I'm in Sydney so I only use their online shop but I found them really good :)

message 789: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 380 comments Yes, Tien, got a few books from one of their op shops on the weekend ( they had just changed the prices on them, so I think I got a better deal ! ), and i have ordered online once, but with library book sales I get paperbacks for $1, and hardbacks for $2, and often kids books are 50c, and the money raised either goes back into the library or to a charity ( last weekend it was a scout group local to the library ), so you can't go passed that for value. My Miss 7 usually walks away with around 20 new books - I only wish she read them as fast as she bought them!

Tien, Anita has started a PBT group over at leafmarks if you also want to check that out. Really just to test it out. And yes, the leaves are kind of fun. I haven't joined any of the challenges, though.

Yeah, I decided to join. It remains to be seen whether or not I'll be active, but we'll see. The games look intriguing. (Or maybe I'll start with one of the games in 2015?)

@Cin: thanks for the heads up - I've just joined the group there too though it doesn't seem to be as active.

We usually have a main annual challenge in addition to some other ones and there is one planned for 2015 so be on the lookout :)

LibraryCin | 3 comments @Cin: thanks for the heads up - I've just joined the group there too though it doesn't seem to be as active.

Yeah, Anita just wanted to see how it would work, get used to the groups (and hopefully get a few people trying it out to see how it all goes). It is pretty quiet in the group there. I think we have a couple of people who have commented and such who I don't see commenting in the group at shelfari, though, which is kind of nice.

I'll watch for the 2015 challenges. Thanks!
