Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1227 comments Hi, I'm Lauren and I read most genres. My ever growing TBR is making it very difficult to decide what to read next and I'm hoping this group will help me narrow it down.
Looking forward to reading and sharing with you all.

Sherri (lil_bookette) | 110 comments Hello there! I'm Sherri, turned 3 dozen this month, and have 3 kids. The only tattoo I'd surely never regret would be of a book...with wings. Don't ask why the wings! I just keep seeing that in my head. lol I'll read pretty much anything, but I tend to avoid mysteries and crime novels. I collect children's books. They're full of magic, don't ya know?

I challenge myself with reading a certain amount of books every year, this year 175. I would never have the time to read that many if I didn't also listen to audiobooks. Housework + audiobook = heaven. I also try to pick a couple of authors that I really love and read all of their books within the year. This year is Patricia McCormick and Leah Stewart.

Love the idea behind this group! Thanks for having me. :)

Welcome to the group, Sherri!

He he, I had to take out a calculator to work out what you mean by 3 dozen! It's 8am on a Friday here. I'm supposed to be gearing my brain up for work but... it'll take a while LOL

Btw, Happy Birthday to you!

and I agree, audiobook is such an excellent resource for busy mums!

Deanna (dlbell208) Hi, I'm Deanna and live in NJ. One of my New Year's resolutions (which so far I'm still sticking to) is that I want to read more and cover more genres in my reading. This sounds like a perfect place to do that!

Welcome, Deanna!

We hope we can help you with your NY resolution! What a terrific resolution!

message 659: by Deanna (new)

Deanna (dlbell208) Thank you so much Tien! I have no doubt that you'll be able to. Looking at the shelves, I see some of my TBR on them. FINALLY, I have the kick in the rear I need to get to some of them! :-)

Welcome, Sherri.

Picking one or two authors a year sounds like a great idea.

Carolyn | 8 comments Hi, I'm Carolyn and hail from Victoria Australia. I'm pretty boring compared to everyone else. I'm single but do have 3 amazing, beautiful and awesome kids. (a bit bias). One girl and two boys. I have just finished my certificate 4 in Library and Information Services and I'm just about to start my Diploma. I love reading and I read anything. I keep entering all the Giveaway comps and at the moment have clocked up 25 books which I am now working my through. I have read 8 of them and now onto the number 9.

Welcome, Carolyn! Those giveaways are just addictive, aren't they? especially if you keep winning! :)

Since you're in AU, you should check out The Reading Room - you can sigh up for ARCs there!

message 664: by Katie (new)

Katie | 5 comments Hi my name is Katie, and I'm from Northern California. I haven't had much time for reading for fun lately because I have been spending most of my time reading textbooks and studying. Since I've just graduated, I plan on reading a lot more and am really excited I found this group :). Can't wait to see the different shelves we pick books from.

(Also, like Carolyn, I am having a lot of fun entering the giveaways. I'm totally impressed that she won 25!)

message 665: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 8 comments Thanks for the Reading Room tip will look into this.

Entering the Giveaways nearly is full time hobby on its own. But I have read some really interesting books that i probably wouldn't have come across on my own.

Happy reading:)

Welcome, Katie & Congrats on graduating! What did you study?

message 667: by Katie (new)

Katie | 5 comments Thanks so much Tien! I studied Psychology and Education. They are really interesting and insightful subjects. Unfortunately, most of the reading was extremely academic, scientific, and/or deeply depressing. So I'm going to start reading lighthearted books to put me in an optimistic mood while I'm job hunting :). (Hoping on finding a job counseling children.)

Hey, Rachel! We go to Port Macquarie once every few years for a holiday. We've just been last June :) Got a couple of friends sea-changed there too.

Assume you'd be a fan of Agatha Christie & Dorothy L. Sayers then?

message 674: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (perks53) Hi, Tien, nice holiday destination! I read every Agatha Christie when I was much younger and she was instrumental in my love of crime. Only read a little of Dorothy Sayers. I never read any American books anymore, did go through the Patricia Cornwell stage years ago but I love the psychological side of the English, no guns, bells or whistles or DNA results back in 5 mins! I am like some other members very addicted to audio books, never drive anywhere without one.

Sophia | 23 comments Hello! I'm Sophia, and I'm a Canadian who has been living in Sydney, Australia for the past year, where I'm currently studying at the University of New South Wales. I'm doing a Bachelor of Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics. When I was a kid I was a super avid reader, which died for some reason around middle school. A couple months ago I picked up the first Harry Potter book, which despite being a 90s kid I hadn't read yet. I devoured the series in a month and I've been ploughing through 2-3 books a week ever since. I'm still on a fantasy/paranormal/children/young adult kick at the moment, but hopefully joining this group will help convince me to pick up a few different genres. :)

Roxana Hi, my name is Roxana, I'm from Asunción, Paraguay, South America, I joined this group out of curiosity, following a friend, but I totally loved the challenge. I must say, I usually dont' join groups here because I'm afraid I would not have time to participate, but I couldn't help joining this one, like I said I like the challenge.
I will start with "lost" I have so many books in my "to-read" shelf and it would be great to move those books to another shelf ;)
I'm currently reading Chaman by Noah Gordon and other books but I don't mind adding a fourth LOL

Welcome, Aline, and a hint. There is so much here that it can really seem overwhelming at first. You don't have to do everything at once. Perhaps pick a book or two you'll read in March from the month's shelf, and perhaps one challenge to start with. I guarantee, once you start, you'll love it, and you'll gradually get comfortable taking on more and mroe.

Sandy | 14 comments Hi, I'm Sandy and I live in Washington state. I work as a substitute teacher and have two kids that I really enjoy. They have inherited my bookworm/nerdy gene, which means they will happily accompany me to Elliot Bay bookstore and not whine to go home after one hour or even four. I'm looking forward to finding new books to read!
