Set in summer 3)Spellcast* 7/22/11 5 stars Exactly what I needed to read!
A friend's 5 star book 4) Who Fears Death6/15/11 5 stars
YALSA 5) Huntress 6/20/11 3 1/2 stars
A British writer 6) Annexed7/12/11 3 stars I didn't finish it, I read just less than a third of it, but I read enough to know I wasn't in the mood for it and that I should pick it up again, because it is an interetsting novel.
Non- urban Fantasy 7)]The Native Star * 8/6/11 1 star Didn't finish it, not my thing.
A book with a racial/ethnic minority teen as a main character 8)Imaro*- 6/24/11 2 stars I didn't love this epic fantasy set in an alternative Africa as much as I was hoping to... But I have #3 in the series, if I can get #2 I'll read it.
From my TBR shelf 9)The Golden Compass* 8/10/11 2 stars I don't know if this book is not for me, or not for me now, meaning I might like it a lot in a different mood.
Anthology 10)Welcome to Bordertown* 6/9/11 5 stars; Reread several of the stories aloud to my husband & sister on a driving vacation this week. They are as good a second time around.

* Means I own it now.

Karen | 5 comments YA Summer Reading Challenge Completed!

Has been on to read list the longest
Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer
1 star
(guess I should have left this one on the shelf)

A National Book Award* Winner or Nominee
Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi
4 stars
(I didn’t like it as much as his adult material but still very good.)

Minority teen as main character
Gaurdian by Julius Lester
5 stars
(Because I select books with minorities as main characters regularly, I did my own personal challenge by selecting a book with a white male protagonist.)

Historical fiction or fantasy in historical setting
Pirates by Celia Rees
2 stars
(I must admit this one was a bit of a disappointment)

5 star favorite of a Goodreads friend
The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart
5 stars
(The cure for the paranormal romance!)

A non-American author
The Chaos by Rachel Ward
4 stars
(A wonderful series that deserves more attention)

ALA 2012 Best Fiction* nominee
Beauty Queens by Libba Bray
4 stars
(Over the top sarcasm and beat me over the head social commentary; Libba Bray, love her or hate her. I love her!)

A Brand New Release (Jun, Jul or Aug 2011)
Ingenue by Jillian Larkin
4 stars
( I’m surprised by how much I’m enjoying this series)

Set in Summer (or has a summer-y cover)
One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia
5 stars
(1968 what strong memories, both sad and sweet. Okay I didn’t know any Black Panthers back then , at least I don’t think I did; but every girl in 6th did have at least a little crush on the ½ Black, ½ Korean boy in our class)

Short story collection by single author or around same theme
Lips Touch: Three Times by Laini Taylor
5 stars
(Absolutely beautiful!!!!!)
