Finished The City's Son by Tom Pollock which was enormously creative and have started The Twelve by Justin Cronin which I've been waiting for for years and which I'm simply loving.

Hurricane Sandy and the loss of the net kept me reading, although I still haven't finished Sandcastle Girls.I have read Lovesick Cure,Grown-up Kind of Pretty and am almost finished with The peculiar Sadness of Lemon Cake. (It's a little weird in MHO)
Thx to Goodreads and TNBBC i am into short stories at the moment: Won a copy of Mad Hope by Heather Birrell and just finished that and then got Sherman Alexie's newest collection: Blasphemy, in the mail from goodreads today! two stories in..
I gave up on Hard Laughter - got about 3/4's of the way through it and just got bored with it. I am now starting The Blind Assassin and am looking forward to reading it.
I have a pretty tall stack of small press books to review.I'm exciting about reviewing these books.
But first I want to finish a book from the library that was made into a film by Fellini.
It's called THE VOICE OF THE MOON by Ermano Cavazzoni. It's outrageous.
I'm reading Devil at My Heels: A Heroic Olympian's Astonishing Story of Survival as a Japanese POW in World War II by Louis Zamperini.
I just started The Casual Vacancy. I haven't read that much yet but am already intrigued by the characters!
One Hundred Years of Solitude is an absolute masterpiece. Could be one of the greatest novels ever written in any language. That book has one of the most powerful sex scenes (near the end), and its conclusion is unforgettable. One of the only books I read slowly because I knew I would regret finishing it.
preparing for Return of the Crimson Guard today... looks epic, so sure I'm looking forward to this one
I'm reading "A Fractured Light" (#2"A Beautiful Dark") by Jocelyn Davies. About halfway finished. :)

Dex wrote: "I've started Damned by Chuck Palahniuk. Very addictive writing..It's great!"I liked "Damned" by Chuck Palahniuk! Idea by itself amuzed me! how to easy to be damned :)

You'll never forget this book. Zafon is by far one of the best contemporary wirters! Be sure you have some spare Kleenex!
I finished reading
by Janet Evanovich this morning. Stephanie's adventures still make me laugh after 11 novels. There are so many hilarious and witty scenes in this book. But I have to admit I was a bit annoyed by Stephanie in this book. I just wish she'd finally choose between Joe Morelli and Ranger! Now I'm reading
by Kate Morton.
Finished A Drink Before the War. What an excellent book. Lehane's writing is fantastic. Now I'm reading Every Dead Thing.
Mark wrote: "Just finished listening to The Light Between Two Oceans. I am not sure how to feel about this book. Started listening to 1Q84.
Still reading Anathem."
I read part of 1Q84. I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't finish it. My wife read
The Light Between Oceans and hated it.
Listening to This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald - partly good, partly boring.Reading The Promised World: A Novel by Lisa Tucker - very good story! It was recommended to my one of TNBBC member and it's fulfill my expectations
I'm also reading and like Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult

+1 !
I'm reading Damned by Chuck Palahniuk. I recommend it if your into the off beat transgressive stuff.

I'm also listening to 1Q84 - I like it!
I'm almost done with Consider the Fork: How Technology Transforms the Way We Cook and Eat, and will be moving into How to Get into the Twin Palms for TNBBC discussion starting on Nov 15th!
I'm reading The Brutal Telling and Bury Your Dead back-to-back, and I recommend that any other Louise Penny fans read these two books together, because they are connected. Otherwise, you may be disappointed in The Brutal Telling.
Just finished reading The Emperor of All Maladies as research for my next novel coming next year. Now reading Gone Girl for fun!
Last night, I finished an excellent book of poetry, Birds of Wisconsin by B.J. Best. I'm still working through Chime by Franny Billingsley, and I also started Unearthly by Cynthia Hand.
Just finished City of lost souls by Cassandra Clare, Bah! - Don't recommend it.Now I'm reading "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen, I got it for my birthday.
Finishing The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. I used to don't watch movies before books, but in this case movie ( even it was VERY different from book) help me very much to get in the mood of these times, puritans and in all matters of story. I'm not sure would I like to read this book if I was not prepared by movie - I watched it for free on line on you tube.
Just met with my book club last evening. Two of us were discussing recent reads and both had read The Light Between Oceans and loved it. I see here that people have some negative feelings about it, but that's what makes for discussion and different favorite authors. Just wanted to let others know there are some who really thought the book was great and worth the read.
