Currently reading 'The Witch of Portobello' by Paulo Coelho....Its just dragging and dragging and dragging... Wonder what inspired Coelho to write this one! Desperately waiting to finish it and start reading something light on the mind and sensible too. Any suggestions from readers?

I absolutely loved "The Red Tent"!

Glad to hear you liked it, Paula. Its a little bit of a "heavier" read than Harry Potter!
Still working on Boujahlian's Night Stranger. It's good, and the characters are extremely well done. The Dad with PTSD is getting scary.Picked up 5 more books in the last three trips to town. Ah, such wonderful choices I have!
Am working my way to finishing The Darkest Seduction... I don't know why am procastinating in finishing this. When the latest Anita Blake novel came out.... I placed this book aside to give way to Anita....
I finished No Angel by Penny Vincenzi and am moving on to the next in the series Something Dangerous.
I'm running through a pretty diverse queue: We Need To Talk About Kevin (my review of it is somewhere around here in GR), just finished I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings and am now reading Gods in Alabama (because I was born in Alabama and I'm trying to see if, even though I'm not from a small town, I still get homesick). Next is a book about Kerouac, a book by Bukowski and then, finally, Little Bee by Chris Cleeve. Words. Are. Everywhere. :)
Last night, I started reading Shine Shine Shine. I was tired and muscle-weary from a long, hard day. But Netzer's book kept me up long past my bedtime. Highly recommended so far....
Chris wrote: "I'm halfway through The French Lieutenant Women by John Fowles... its a very strange read. Anyone else read it?"I read it looong ago, when John Fowles was a big deal. I'm glad to see someone is still reading him. For TRULY weird John Fowles, you'd have to read "The Magus."

I thought The Bell Jar was pretty great.

I like it, but then I'm a big fan of postmodernism. I'll certainly be picking up some more, thanks for the rec :)
Rachel wrote: "reading The Secret History, so far so good."That's a good one. Have you read Tana French's The Likeness which is quite similar?
I am currently reading"HAPPENSTANCE"BY CAROL SHIELD,this book has been sitting on my shelf for years and never read it.
I read
by Jean Sasson, which I gave a 5-star rating. I am looking forward to more from this authour.I also read
by Alexander McCall Smith. I rated it 4 stars.Right now I am reading
by Annie Hawes. Pretty goodd so far!
Just finished
by lars kepler and have now found a new author to follow. Yesterday I started
by James Patterson. It is particularly timely as its story is written around the 2012 London Olympic Games.

SLow start but it's good. Can John write a bad book? aha
Patricia wrote: "I finished No Angel by Penny Vincenzi and am moving on to the next in the series Something Dangerous."Was No Angel a good book? I've had it on my TBR list like forever... along with the other two books of the trilogy:)

LOL, I do like him.
I'm finishing Rayuela by Julio Cortázar, and though I really enjoy his short stories I must say I didn't like this one as much. Later I will start reading
The Bell Jar.

I ended up giving No Angel 3 stars though it teetered between 3 and 4 stars. I thought it was an entertaining family saga and easy reading.I just don't know how lasting of an impression it'll make on me, if that makes sense. I am reading the second in the series though so proof that I was interested in what happens to the characters. A coworker had recommended it to me and she loved the book.
That makes perfect sense to me. I've re-worked my star ratings after an edifying thread. Here's how my rating system now goes; 5 stars - a book I will re-read cover to cover, one that could or should go on a list of 100 best **** If I lend the book out and it doesn't return, I'll replace it. It comes with me when I move.
4 stars - a book that I will re-read bits and pieces of,and will come with me when I move. I may re-place it,if it doesn't return when lended.
3 stars - a book I like due to the subject matter or the style, but will only reccommend to people who like the subject matter or the author. If it doesn't return,I figure its' gone to a better home.
It's only after you've let a book sit a while, that you know what its' worth.

Okay, thanks, Patricia! I had started it a few times, and for some reason, it never kept my attention. I'll just have to give it another shot:)
I'm going to start Gone Girl. The book club doesn't start till August, but since school starts the 15th, I'll need to get it done sooner.
I just finished We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver (and posted a review, somewhere). And then I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou was next. Now, as an Alabama native and current New Orleanian, I'm reading Gods in Alabama by Joshilyn Jackson to see if I'm capable of getting homesick. My debut novel is based in my hometown of Mobile, AL, but it's not as Southern a novel as Jackson's. Enjoying it so far.
I am about to start The Stand By Stephen King. It was recommended by a friend and decided to give it a shot. I have read a couple of his books and love them so I am expecting to enjoy this novel book.
I've finished reading The Lost Daughter by Diane Chamberlain earlier today and now I'm about 40 pages into Stolen: A Letter to My Captor by Lucy Christopher.
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant - Amazing book! Thank you for all TNBBC members who discuss, reviewed and mention this book here, this is how I get know about this book and put on my to-read list. And now I'm reading this book and would recommend also to my friends and to other TNBBC members!
I just started Death Comes to Pemberley - it is a update with a mystery twist by P. D. James. So far the delicate balance between Jane Austen's voice and P.D. James' spin on a a murder is working well!
I just finished Amulet, it was fantastic and I highly recommend it.I'm moving onto Freedom, looking forward to it as I read The Corrections and loved it.
Chris wrote: "I just finished Amulet, it was fantastic and I highly recommend it.If you're talking about Bolano, then The Skating Rink is another more recent good one.
I've been reading short stories about work from a Richard Ford edited anthology White Collar, Blue Collar, No Collar. A lot of gems and maybe only one or two I was disappointed by. Edward P. Jones, Bausch, Lahiri, Eugenides, and lots more.
I just finished The Things They Carried and thought it was really good but sad. I am now starting People of the Book.
I just started the The Sandcastle Girls as a book on tape. The plot is captivating and the characters are drawing me in. I'm finding it difficult to leave the book in my car.
