So I'll perserve for a little longer anyhow."This is the perfect series when you need that "laugh out loud" moment. If you decide to continue the series then I suggest you start with the first book One For The Money and read them in order. Altho, I have to admit, sometimes there is very little charactor development from one book to the next but you would get a better feel for the series with the earlier books.
Hope you decide to continue reading this one.
I finished Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris this afternoon and now I'm reading White Oleander by Janet Fitch.

Welcome, Gretchen. I would recommend
The Autobiography of Henry VIII: With Notes by His Fool, Will Somers and/or The Memoirs Of Cleopatra, both by Margaret George, if you like historical fiction.
finally started long time on my mental list to read Still Alice by Lisa Genova and first time reading book of Delinsky, Barbara - Looking for Peyton Place
reading 5 books right now:Midnight in Peking: How the Murder of a Young Englishwoman Haunted the Last Days of Old China
The Last of the Mohicans
The Twisted Thread
Saving Mary
The Warrior Laird
I finished Long Drive Home, it lacked depth and did not hold my interest.I am about to begin The Hangman's Daughter
I read The 39 Steps years ago but only recently found out it was the first in a series. So, finally reading the second book, Greenmantle.
Am currently reading (among other things)
. I started out with a bit of skepticism since I am not necessarily a fan of books taking place in India. Was I wrong. This is really a great read with lots of history the way I like it. You know you are enjoying a book when you set a goal to read for just an hour and you look up and two hours have passed.
Finished Fifty Shades Freed and got to say I loved this trilogy. Have a feeling it will be quite well read in the future. started Her Fearful Symmetry.
Just finished reading the blockbuster 'Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking' by Susan Cain. The book explores the psychology of the introvert, and makes the case that introversion has plenty of benefits and advantages--despite the fact that our society has a deeply entrenched bias towards extroversion (which often makes introverts feel like second-class citizens--if not outright defective or diseased). I've written an executive-style summary of the book at newbooksinbrief.wordpress.comCheers,
Aaron
I just recently finished The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, which quickly became my favorite read of the year. I am not sure why I didn't read it years ago since the copy I had is the same copy I have had all this time. I am now reading More Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin.

I've also read The Hundred Secret Senses and I have The Bonesetter's Daughter and The Kitchen God's Wife on my TBR shelf. Oh, I also have Tales of the City and More Tales of the City waiting to be read!

The Twisted Thread
Saving Mary
The Warrior Laird
I'll be adding to that list

I just finished
, this book was so sloppy with consistency! It was sooooooo slow, I gave up in frustration. Another book that bites the dust:(, I really hope the next book is better.I am about to begin
, I am a huge fan of her first novel, PLEASE don't be disappointing.
Tellulah wrote: "Eric wrote: "I just recently finished The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, which quickly became my favorite read of the year. The library didn't have a copy!? LOL I finally found a used copy of the first two, sigh, but I have a lot of books ahead the these two.
Picked up Helvetes Port (Windfall) by Desmond Bagley last night. So far its good. I might even pick up some more of his books.
Finished five since my last post. Not all of them were on my original list of 35 although two were and one was on my "next up."Finished Colorado Dawn
for a "runaway brides" challenge. Liked it. But if the Cheyenne language in it is actually Cheyenne, that must be one tough language to learn! This one was on my "35" list. Finished What Happens in London
. Not on my 35 but I needed an audio book to listen to and it was around. Liked it, will be checking out more Julia Quinn. Finished two Lee Childs. One on my "35" and one not-- Without Fail
and Nothing to Lose
. Apparently these have put me back in the mood for Reacher because I'm now reading a third. And these have helped me knock two or three more states off my state challenge. Finished Beautiful Days
which is book two of the "Bright Young Things" series. This was my "read ahead into my next-up" book because after I read the first I wanted to see what came next. Then I realizes the third book isn't out yet-- DRAT!Now reading Worth Dying For
(the third Lee Child) and The Ghost and the Dead Deb
which is the second book in this series by the authors of the "coffeehouse" mysteries. Interesting twist happened in the part I read last night- curious to see where it's taken. About to start 11/22/63
.
I'm reading:Sizzling Sixteen, Greenmantle, Without Any Warning: Samantha Jamison Mystery and The World According To Bertie
I've got my ears on Lynne Tillman's No Lease on Life - the iambik audio is really good. Love the story, love the narrator!
I'm still working on Fall of Giants. It's really good, but I keep getting bogged down in all the politics, especially the Russian Revolution parts. I'm getting sick of Lenin's hypocrisy.
Just finished
and really enjoyed it. However, I think like Tana French's
better, which has a similar story.
Just finished Never Knowing, it was outstanding and it was a terrifying thriller. For those of you that are a fan of thrillers, check this out!I am about to begin
Ive just finished Her Fearful Symmetry still not really sure about it, will need to reread I think. Finally got around to 1Q84: Book Three.
I'm a little more than 2/3rds of the way through A Thousand White Woman by Fergus . I'm enjoying it.
Up to four books now with the digital download for Dead to the World. I'm good with three books at once but four always make me feel guilty when I'm not reading, don't know why. Oh, I did finish Greenmantle or it would have been five books.
Finished One Thousand White Woman-excellent,very insightful. Some of it was more politically correct than I'd expect a woman to be in the 1800's but...
Finished reading Sold on You, Mrs. Garcia's Class Visits the Hospital, and a graphic novel called Why Don't You Just Kill Her that was horrible. Now starting The Syn-En Solution
Just finished
and really loved. I am not necessarily a big fan of baseball, but the story is so engaging you just can't help but breeze through it. I love a book that moves between two eras in history and this one did it seemlessly. 4.5 on the scale for me.
I finished Janet Evanovich's Two for the Dough. I'm liking this series so far. So far, the books have been quick and I have found them humorous. I'm hoping I still like the series at the end or if I will be turned off by the it's the same old thing like I was with James Patterson. I started Fifty Shades Darker by E.L. James. I have mixed emotions about the series. Although not well written, I still feel some pull to complete the series. Maybe to see what all the hype is, how it ends or just to say been there, read that or finish what you start attitude. I have a love/ hate relationship with both Christian and Anastasia. Maybe I will feel different once I'm doing reading the series.
I finished The Lantern, it started off good but went downhill after that.I am about to begin The Poison Tree
I'm just about finished The Sisters Brothers and can't wait to be rid of this - I have to know how it ends but I can't say I enjoyed this read. This book has gotten so many 5 star reviews, but I found it disturbing and distasteful and will be glad to delete it from my e-reader.
