What are you reading?
I just finished
, it was a huge disappointment, forgettable characters and horrible ending.I am about to begin
Went on an addictive reading binge this weekend and Finished The Stand by Steven King which was absolutely fantastic (I like my vampires scary verus sappy and romantic) and The Peach Keeper which was a fluufy mystical realism novel but well written.
I finished The Girls by Lori Lansens and next will read The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity, and the Making of the Oxford English Dictionary by Simon Winchester.
I finished 77 SHAWDOW STREET by Dean Koontz and it was ok. Not as good as all of his others. Now I am reading KILL ME IF YOU CAN by James Patterson.
Finished Storm Front by Jim Butcher, loved it and plan to continue the series.Starting Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy by John Le Carre, at long last.
I am caught in a Georgette Heyer mystery vortex:) Currently reading Death in the Stocks. Starting Banned for Life tomorrow!
I just finished One Day, didn't like it.I'm still working on the last Harry Potter and for fun I am A Regency Holiday. After One Day I need a real romance! LOL
I just finished 77 Shadow Street, which was pretty good, and have now started on Reunion by Karen Kingsbury.
I just finished It's Classified, lets just say I threw it across the room.I am about to begin Testimony
I finished reading Songs Of The Humpback Whale last night and it was awful. Today I've started reading All We Know of Heaven by Jacquelyn Mitchard.
I recently finished Before I Go to Sleep by SJ Watson, and I quite enjoyed it. It was a really quick read, and it held my interest the whole time. Now I'm starting Chocolat by Joanne Harris. :)
Julia wrote: "I just finished Invisible last night and started reading Home Front by Kristian Hannah."Julia, let us know how Home Front goes- I've been really anticipating it.
I finished Only Time Will Tell, the first of a new trilogy, and A Letter of Mary, which was the third in the wonderful Mary Russell series. Both were good reads. I started The Moor last night.
Just finished reading Pebble Cove By Mairead O'Driscoll and I just started The Death of Dalziel By Reginald Hill
I set aside Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy-- couldn't get into it.Now I'm reading Crime and Punishment and loving it!
I finshed Home Front By Kristin Hannah and have to say it is my favorite of all of Ms. Hannah's book. There are just to many wonderful adjectives thst best describe her book. The story about our men and women of the arm forces was intriguing and well written. We need more books that cover this topic and give priase to those who leave their families, home and friends to protect US and our country.
To Kristin Hannah I take my hat off and give her a very big Thank You and praise for the book. I have read most of her books, however this nis my favorite.
just finished Macbeth and I'm still speechless. Great if not the greatest play I've read. Need to find something darker and stronger for next ...
I just finished reading Room and thought it was fantastic. The narrative voice she chose made it so much sadder than if it had been written third person or as an adult or something. Very heartbreaking to think of how Jack must have been warped from the first five years of his life. Now I'm probably going to read The Art of Racing in the Rain, which I am really looking forward to. I've also slowly been working my way through The Wake of Forgiveness, but it's not as gripping as what I usually read. Most likely going to start a Harry Potter reread soon... Mildly obsessed with that series.
I just started The Ballad of Tom Dooley, will see how it goes. If I like it will probable read other books by the author Sharyn McCrumb, this is my first by her.
I just finished the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows which was wonderful and sad that it's the last book. I've started Angela's Ashes which has grabbed me from page one and am a ways into Margaret's Ark which is a bit different but interesting.
Ahem. By soon, I clearly meant I would start rereading the first Harry Potter tonight. :-)I'm pretty much an addict.
The Moor was really good, the Mary Russell series is reliable fun. Now I'm reading As Time Goes By, which continues the story of the movie Casablanca.
Currently reading The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag
and enjoying just as much as I did the first installment. This is a series that I will hopefully follow until the end (provided it doesn't take a dastardly turn and become dreadful). I have heard mixed reviews about Flavia de Luce, but am glad that a free copy presented itself to me or I probably wouldn't have read it. So glad I did!
Just finished Moby-Dick byHerman Melville - It' was really hard reading - it is brilliant documentary, but so hard to go throw if treat it as fiction work.... But I glad I did it. now will look at my downloaded books to find something easy to read
Well, I just finished reading Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler's "The Future of Us" and since I recently read one of Mackler's other books "The Earth, My Butt And Other Round Things" (or similar to that title), I figured why not do the same for Jay Asher and so now I am halfway through "Thirteen Reasons Why" which, being the sister of a young man who took his own life, is a very difficult read for me but other than that, it's not a bad "pretty (insert race here) kids with problems" read. What I am absolutely looking forward to is the release date for the sequel to Lauren Oliver's "Delirium", "Pandemonium" which is out tomorrow!! Can't wait!!
It's rare for me not to finish a book. I had started American Gods. It was our March read and could not get into the book. So, I'm starting Island of Blue Dolphin by Scott Odell.

Thirteen Reasons Why must be very hard for you. I read it this summer and could not put it down, but I still can't decide if that was a good thing or not. It reminded me of a multi-car wreck, you can't look away but you really don't want to see. I am still haunted by that book. I hope that it doesn't open old wounds for you.
Finished re-reading The Shining. I had forgotten how much it differs from the film. I think it is so much better than the film although I do like the film. I would have loved to have seen a more true representation of the book.
Finally finished all but one of the last batch of simul-books. (the one is an audio and I still have a few car trips to go before it's finished...) Chose the next group and started starting them yesterday:The Brass Verdict
(audio I'm finishing)And Then There Were None
Truly, Madly
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
The Winter Garden Mystery
The Borgia Bride
The Ghost and the Dead Deb
Murder With Peacocks
Strictly Dishonorable and Other Lost American Play
The Affair: A Reacher Novel
The Kitchen Witch
All of them fit at least one challenge I'm in at the moment, and one is my first pen-pal read!
Finished Bad Moon Rising the other day. What a great ending to the trilogy. Then I started The Sisters Brothers. I really like it so far.
I'M SO EXITED FINALLY TO START Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
BY Ransom Riggs -I was several months on waiting list from my local library
I am still reading The Prince in Italian, but started reading also Never Let Me Go. Wondering if it will be very weird.
I finished Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone last night, moved right on to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Came to the conclusion I didn't like this book at all. Dexter was a waste and Emma, please, could anyone be so (I'm being polite here) naive as to think if she waited around long enough that Dexter would clean up his act and come to his senses? There are limits to giving people a second or even third chance so for me this book was so not believable. I know it's a novel but I still didn't like it.
Well into Angela's Ashes, wonderful book and reading a lite & rather silly Elvis and the Dearly Departed.

I agree with you about One Day, Karen. The more I've thought about that book, the more I've found myself to be annoyed with it. You're right about the naivety, and Dexter seemed so not worth waiting for to me. This book just didn't pull at me emotionally at all, I felt so indifferent and just didn't care what happened to the characters. I found it really unsatisfying overall. Blah.

Shame on me, this was a spoiler and I apologize to anyone who read it, so sorry.
(view spoiler)
Reading two rather different books (one in print, and one e-book). Stories for Nighttime and Some for the Day
recently featured on NPR (which could be seen as a good thing or a bad thing :-)
