Michelle wrote: "I finished The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. It was a cute story, although I did not get too carried away with it. Yes I wanted to finish it and see where she end..."Michelle, I also didn't over enjoy it but I liked it more when she was with the women....it felt very colourful then.

Ann from S.C. wrote: "I am having a hard time with THE SHADOW OF TEH WIND. I have heard such great things about it, but it is just a little boring. Does it get better?"I loved the whole story!!! I hope it changes for you so you will feel the same joy!

I loved Watership Down as well and have heard of the movie but never seen it. I'll have to look at the video store for it.
I just finished The Girl Who Played with Fire. It was def. another good, fast paced read :) And now I want the third one to come out! I also just started The Shadow of the Wind. Its a complete change of pace from what I was reading but I am enjoying it so far :)

Ashley, The U.S. release date is Oct. 31 for the third book. I am half through The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and I know I'll be running to Borders to get the second one once I'm done.
I don't think you'll be disappointed with Shadow of the Wind either.

Well, I really want to talk about the book with someone but I don't want to ruin it for anyone either.
Loved the beginning.. loved the wording - curtains pillowed out the window... dragged about in the breeding but I was okay with that and then... that section I want to chat about... Did you finish it? anyone?
OH I am reading Passion, Betrayal and Killer Highlights. This is the second in a series by Kyra Davis. Slightly like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum.

I am in the first quarter of the book. So far I am loving the descriptions. I like the way he brings the dog's perpective to the story. I have mixed feelings about the characters. What is the purpose of Claude. Anyone have any ideas. Maybe we should start a spoiler thread. I don't want to give to much away for others. I am more than half way through. I edited this post to bring it up to date.
Jessica wrote: "Finished Like Water for Chocolate and just started Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff. "You're reading it already! That didn't take long! :-)
I finished The Book of Lost Things and really enjoyed it. I am a sucker for any kind of re-told fairy tale. I also finished Persepolis 2 The Story of a Return and actually probably enjoyed it a little more than the first.
Now I'm reading Nine Princes in Amber. I haven't gotten far enough into it to really know what I think yet, but I have heard plenty of f/sf fans raving about this author, so I thought I'd try him out.

I didn't finish it... I will probably come back to it when I have a free book list (it was a ring and I had 5 other rings waiting... serves me right for being greedy!)
Is there a thread for it in "Wanna discuss this book?" I didn't check...
Carol: "What is the purpose of Claude" It's Hamlet, more or less, so Claudius...

I'm reading "The lost book of Salem" (a.k.a "The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane"), by Katherine Howe
I have about 100 pages left of South of Broad. I am really enjoying it. I have missed Conroy. I loved Beach Music as well as his older works. Despite a pretty contrived plot device, which is semi-typical of Conroy, his descriptions and characters are totally worth it...although I have to admit a kind father and no real military presence is kind of weird given how prominently they typically figure in his work...in the back of my head I am kind of waiting for them to be introduced...
I'm reading "Chocolat" by Joanne Harris...
I guess I need a dose of magic and something extra sweet. hahaha

October? :) That's not too bad!

Signed copies probably won't go up for sale on Lancecarbuncle.com until later in the year. Meanwhile Grundish and Askew is available on both Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com.
I just finished The Girl Who Played with Fire and can't wait for the third book. I picked up The Friday Night Knitting Club for a quick read (and to get it off my shelf).
I'm reading The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson, and like Justine, I can't wait for the third book! Next: The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown and then A Touch of Dead by Charlaine Harris.
I am reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett and really liking it. Not sure what I'll read next - since Halloween is coming up and the fall weather, I may read Dracula by Bram Stoker or Duma Key by Stephen King---- kind of in the mood for something spooky!
carol (akittykat) wrote: "I am thrilled to know about The South Of Board. I am a hugh fan of Pat Conroy"I gave South of Broad five stars.

I can't wait to read it. I finished The Story Of Edgar Sawtelle. I don't want to spoil it for others.
Thought I might start Bonfires Of The Vanities next
Lance, yes - thanks for that clarification! Sorry if I got overly excited and posted false information, everyone...
Ana wrote: "I'm reading "The lost book of Salem" (a.k.a "The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane"), by Katherine Howe"How are you finding it? I've read about 50 pages of it so far.
Claire wrote: "Not sure what I'll read next - since Halloween is coming up and the fall weather, I may read Dracula by Bram Stoker or Duma Key by Stephen King---- kind of in the mood for something spooky!"I've been laughing at some neighbors who already have pumpkin and scarecrow decorations out (no offense meant to any of you who are eager to decorate for fall), but I'm dying to read something Halloween-y! Hypocritical of me, I know. :-)

If you want scarey go with the King.
We read Dracula here for our group read last October. It really isn't in the same category, but it is a classic. I enjoyed it. But I'll also probably be looking for something more King-ish when I finally indulge in the spookiness. :-)
Oh yes, this nomination round for October should be fun.... everyone can nominate halloweeny reads.... Dracula was our first, and I can't wait to see what becomes the Themed group read this time :)
Read the Pit and The Pendulum or The House Of Usher Or the Tell Tell Heart-Edger Allen Poe.. These are scarey.
I just finished The Bonesetter's Daughter by Amy Tan. It was my first Amy Tan book and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I am reading Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See. I hope it lives up to all the hype it's received! :)
SNOW FLOWER AND THE SECRET FAN was a great book! I got THE BONESETTER'S DAUGHTER today at the library and am starting it tonight.
Next to pick up this weekend is Graceling.------------------------
I love that book!
I just finished Outlander ( loved it.. although I stayed up till 1 am reading 3 nights in a row.. and the kids are up by 6)
Just started the first Sookie Stackhouse book.
What we did on our Holidays by Geoff Nicholson. The book starts off in a very gently English way. A father, going through the existential angst of middle-age, is taking his wife and two teenaged children for their last joint family holiday. They are going to a caravan park and the talk is of motor insurance, car sickness, country walks and the like. It reads like its going to be a modern comedy of manners until he sitting in the happy silence of couples who know each other very well and his wife pipes up, "I'd really like to be shafted from behind by an Arab with a big tool, who really knows how to use it." Oh!
Catamorandi wrote: "I am reading The Elegeance of a Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery."This is a popular book at the moment
The Sheriff of Yrnameer A Novel by Michael Rubens. Maybe someday I'll stop automatically grabbing every book that is compared to Douglas Adams. Meanwhile, I'm reading this. It looks fun.
I'm currently reading The Book Thief. Just reached Part 5; I think I'm about half-way. I'm reading on my iPhone kindle app, so I can't really tell the way you can with an actual book. I'm enjoying it, hard to put down, etc., but as I said elsewhere, am reading it with trepidation. Knowing bad things will happen..........
I just finished Stardust and am about to start New Moon. That will be put on hold whne my copy of Lady Audley's Secret comes in for my Vic Lit book club. I've also been working on Quicksand and Passing for my Jazz Age class.

Ok, I posted on here that I got done with Bookends by Jane Green which I really didn't like, but stuck it out and finished it anyway. Well, after that I started Boneman's Daughter by Ted Dekker and after about 100 pages, I finally put it down. I couldn't stand the characters and the writing just was not my cup of tea. After reading the posts in here, I realized that I do have way too many books on my TBR list, so I decided I'm not going to waste my time on something that I dread picking up and I'm not enjoying. So now I have started Mudbound by Hillary Jordan and I also picked up Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner. Hopefully I'll have better luck than my last two books.
Reading The Castle In the Forest-Norman Mailer. I just started it. I have already google information that he is imparting in the book. He is pretty much right on with his facts. The fiction is peppered in. So far so good.
Finished the Abstinence Teacher and really did not like it. Now I am on to A Great and Terrible Beauty. Hopefully I will enjoy this one more.
Just finished Beyond the Highland Mist by Karen Marie Moning. I hadn't read any of this series yet, but it is very similar to Outlander, if not as epic in scale. I LOVED it. Will definitely be checking out the next in the series, though unlilke Outlander, they focus on different characters. About to start Grub which is a retelling fo New Grub Street. I hope to really like it.
The Book Thief is meant to be about beautiful bleakness, just let yourself sink into it, it all makes sense.

I read Bookends a loooong time ago and really liked it. Maybe that had a lot to do with the bookshop in it...:-)
