What are you reading?
Wendy:Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay
I liked the book up until the middle. I did not see the turn that she was going towards. Oh well. Now I do not know what to read.
Anyone have any suggestions? I want something that captivates me! Something I just canNOT for the life of me put down because I want to see how it ends.
I'm not picky on genre or author. Just something really good.

Stephanie wrote: "Just finished The Time Traveler's Wife it was a little confusing in some parts but overall I loved it! Now I'm going to read Blood Promise."Stephanie I read Time Traveler's Wife a few weeks ago and realized right off that if I hadn't seen the movie preview and known ahead of time that it is about him jumping around in time, not written in just her chronology,it would have been much more confusing to me too. I loved the story, but you definitely had to pay attention to what was going on, it wasn't a light read by any stretch. But I did love it nontheless. Dara
I almost done with the book I won in the GR Giveaways. Weekends at Bellevue, by Julie Holland, MD, is a pre-release book, an autobiography about the nine years that this psychiatrist worked in Bellevue Hospital, NYC as the weekend attending physician in the psych ER. For some reason going into the book I had the notion that it was more about the hospital and the unusual stories of the patients seeking psych treatment, but what I found was more a story of this particular doctor. I am not at all disappointed, don't get me wrong, just somehow had a different preconceived idea of what it would be. I am really enjoying it. Dr. Holland describes her own journey, how she grew and the problems she personally faced while learning to traverse the delicate human psyche, including her own.

Well there are so many. I suggest The Rice Mother by Rani Manicka or Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum
Michelle wrote: "I just finished Night by Elie Wiesel. It was a good story. Of course it was disheartening to read everything that had happened, but so far I am captivated by the Holocaust..."Michelle: Sarah's Key is an excellent novel. If you haven't already read Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum or My Enemy's Cradle by Sara Young or Skeleton's at the Feast by Chris Bohjalian, I would also recommend these for interesting perspectives.

Also started The Road by Cormac McCarthy last night and I've been working on The Unknown American Revolution by Gary B. Nash and Parallel Universes by Fred Alan Wolf for a while.
Thanks all for the recommendations! :) I am going to a booksale this weekend and will definitely seek out those titles and authors!
Linda: I never meant to offend you by saying that I did not like the turn that was taken during Sarah's Key. I did enjoy the novel, but the turn was so unanticipated and unexpected. Please don't take it to heart or take it offensively! :)

It's the first book I've won in a giveaway and it was fun to get a pre-released book. Glad to hear you liked it!
I had to take a hiatus from reading as much as I would have liked these last couple of months due to un frseen circumstances but I'm back on track and just finished Grapes of Wrath...which was long and boring. But I'm currently read Me:Stories of my Life by Katherine Hepburn and loving it.
Andrew wrote: "I had to take a hiatus from reading as much as I would have liked these last couple of months due to un frseen circumstances but I'm back on track and just finished Grapes of Wrath...which was long..."Oh ,I thought it was one of his better books. The only one I did not care for was The Winter Of Our Discontent. And welcome back.
Really? I loved Of Mice and Men, and was kind of hoping for something more similar to that I guess. Or maybe I just had to over anaylize everything, but I found it dry and tedious...tis all.
Just ready to start "The Granny" by Brendan O'Carroll. Looks like it has over 4 star rating, so it should be good. Ive had it on my bookshelf for some time, so I guess its time to read it!
Andrew wrote: "Really? I loved Of Mice and Men, and was kind of hoping for something more similar to that I guess. Or maybe I just had to over anaylize everything, but I found it dry and tedious...tis all."Well yes I must admit Of Mice And Men was exceptional.
Did you try Tortilla Flats?
Hello!
is what I am reading right now. It is written by Canadian author Joan Barfoot. I am about halfway through and finding it very compelling - the kind of book you have to take a pause from every now and then to digest and think about what you have read. I am hopeful the strength of story and writing are sustained for the second half of the novel. This book was on the shortlist of nominees for The Giller Prize in 2005. http://www.scotiabankgillerprize.ca/ The Giller is the richest literary prize for fiction awarded in Canada each year. The 2009 long list is being announced on September 21st and I can't wait to see which books make it this year.
Carol...Totilla Flats is on my list, as in Canary Row, but I haven't actually read them yet. But I defnitly want to.
