I am reading Shataram. I know it was TNBBC's read a few months back but I was kinda intimidated by the thickness of the book but now that I conjured the courage to read it I am glad it is over 900 pages because I don't think I want it to end!!

It is wonderful!!!!
I'm currently reading Untamed, the fourth book in the House of Night series. I can't get enough of the series!!

going well or not?
You would probably enjoy Princes of Ireland. It's always cool to read books set in places that you know. What makes this one a little different is that it starts when Dublin was really just one chieftain's farm.
Yvette wrote: "The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Wow! What an amazing book. Highly recommended."That is one of the books i want to read for already more than five years and when I do it better be good :-)

Welcome back Jeane!!
Haven't started Earth Hums yet!!
Italian quarter was so-so... well writtne and entertaining, but the message really p***ed me off in the end.
Life of Pi was okay. Parts of it really beautiful and moving, but it just didn't come together for me.
I've had a bunch duds recently... oh well!

Wherever i move to I am always trying to find out how the palce used to be in the past and then when I walk through the city I have to think about what I am seeing and how it used to be. it is so interesting to do that.
wow catched up with soooo many pages.I am reading Cloud Atlas and finally one of my lists The House of the Spirits. I was going to read only books from my lists I said some months ago, this one is the first.
Last night at bed time I started The Magicians by Lev Grossman and ended up staying up too late. It hooked me right away and it's really good so far.
I'm reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard and People of the Book or at least trying to read the latter :)
Now that I've finally finished War and Peace I'm happy to say I've rejoined the world of the reading!I've started Chris Adrian's The Children's Hospital which I'm really enjoying, even though it is another big read.
I am slowly getting through Night Road. It is not difficult reading but it is oddly dull. In kind of a realistic way, though: it is about vampires but instead of goth glamor and blood-sucking it is all how to file business papers when you can't go out in the light, and difficulties with laundry. And yeah, if there were vampires they probably would spend a lot of time thinking about those things.
JG wrote: "Paula, I ended up liking The Dress Lodger quite a bit. It's not a new favorite by any means, but I did like it.Thanks for letting me know JG. I thought the Dress Lodger was a very unique although brutal story of the 1800's. I'm glad you did like it.

I did read a Saylor right after Victory of Eagles - believe it was The Triumph of Caesar A Novel of Ancient Rome. I like Saylor, particularly at the short-story length.

I do find humor in the book. I challenge myself every summer to read at least one classic. This year I chose House of the Seven Gables, Dorien Grey and Moby Dick. I finished the first two. Last year I chose Les Miserable. Great book but I finished it in about 8 months. So if it takes 8 months for Moby I will try to perserver. Right now I am going to read Little Women and I did start the 19th wife, which is good so far.
I am currently reading Eclipse and Marley & Me. I started the twilight series over a year ago and still haven't finished it. Marley & Me was loaned to me by a friend who said I should read the book before I see the movie.

I just found The Shadow of the Wind at the used bookstore a few days ago for $4. I bought it. I read the book earlier, but I'm sure I will want to read it again a some point...along with Angel's Game.
Since you just finished Rebecca, you should read Rebecca's Tale, by Sally Beauman. An interesting perspective 20 years later on what really? happened to Rebecca.
Jeane wrote: "Akittykat wrote: "Trying to get up enough energy to read Moby Dick. I want to read The 19th Wife. Has anyone read it, and if so was it interesting?"Did someone pay you to read moby dick? :-)kid..."
I read the 19th Wife this year for book club. I enjoyed it, but thought the author didn't know when to quit. Would have been better ended a little earlier.
I'm about half way through The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It's really good so far. It took me a little bit to get immersed into it, as I've never been to Sweden, but the imagery of the landscape, etc. is quite vivid so I was able to transport myself rather easily.
Jeane wrote: "hi hayes.have you ever read a camilleri?"
Yes... love him!!
The Terra-Cotta Dog
Gli arancini di Montalbano

I'm reading Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen, but it is only a 2-day read. Would have been one, but my daughter wouldn't take her nap yesterday. :-) Soon as I finish this, though, it will be The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I have had it forever, and I really want to get it read because I want to get my hands on his second one. Then, it will be Pride And Prejudice And Zombies. FINALLY!!! Hehe.
Fiona wrote: "I have just started A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens and enjoying it so far. Lovely to jump back into a Dickens, it has been a year I think since reading my last,..."Another book that I have been meaning to read that has been sitting on my shelf!

It took my a while to get into it but once you pass all the Sweedish Business Jargon it gets good. I have been waiting for the second book from the library.
I finished up The Shadow of the Wind and started Wildflower An Extraordinary Life and Untimely Death in Africa. Very interesting story. Makes me want to watch the movie, Out of Africa, again.
Jeane wrote: "Susanna wrote: "Reading David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas for a group read."I had never heard of or seen the book but it seems to be popular! What do you think about it susanna?"
I finished it a few days ago and I gotta say that it was a little frustrating to read but in the end I enjoyed the complexity of it very much. I especially enjoyed the fifth section, probably because I'm on a sort of a scifi kick at the moment but if it's not your thing, don't let that put you off.
The book was August's group read for the 50 Books' Book Club group. If you're interested, there is a discussion thread under Monthly Discussions.
Almost finished with the 19th Wife. It has an interesting format and it is holding my interest. Still working Moby, very slow going. Started Little Women for september group read. Looks like I will need to find Graveyard Book at library. I really do not want to purchase it.
