I just finished reading the first two Luthiel's Song books on Kindle. Wonderful stories with some pretty stunning and stark allusions to present day politics. I loved them so much I'm thinking about buying them in p-book form which is a rare thing for me these days. I'll be looking forward to the third book when it comes out.I'm also reading through Tamora Pierce's Lioness series and will be reading the third in that series soon. Fun books!
I just started The Bridge of Sighs by Richard Russo. It was recommended by our local librarian. Good so far.
I am just started The Eyre Affair and am really enjoying it. I also just picked up The Secret History (both GR recommendations) and will start that as soon as I am finished with The Eyre Affair (although I am also finishing about 3 YA books too). Discovering GR has been really hard on my sleeping time!
I started reading The Time Traveler's Wife today. I'm about halfway through, it's definitely held my attention so far! =)
I just finished Arthur and George by Julian Barnes and The Hunger Games, YA book by Suzanne Collins. Both were excellent, rating a 5 with me.
Just finished Shadows in the Asylum by D.A. Stern. It was really crepy and the way it was set up was pretty cool. Now I'm Back to Tower Hill.
Well, I finished 'The Other Queen'by Philippa Gregory and was disappointed.I'm now reading 'Wicked: The Life & Times of the Wicked Witch of the West' by Gregory Maguire....first couple chapters were a bit boring but it's looking up.
Viki wrote: "I am reading The Eight...much better than Da Vinci Code."i read this last month, it was a great book. i'm looking forward to picking up her new one.
Rachel wrote: "I am just started The Eyre Affair and am really enjoying it. I also just picked up The Secret History (both GR recommendations) and will start that as soon as I am finish..."i LOVED the thursday next novels. i thought they were so well written, and just down right good story telling. i tried his other series, the Nursery Crimes one, and just couldn't get in to them. however, i've thought about giving them another try. have you read those?
Maria and Viki - I just finished The Eight a couple of months ago and thought it was top rate. I am looking forward to her new book, also.Maria and Rachel - The Thursday Next novels are wonderful, at least the ones I have read. I read The Eyre Affair and Lost in A Good Book, and have to say the second was even better than the first. I have The Well of Lost Plots on my TBR pile.
Maria wrote: "Rachel wrote: "I am just started The Eyre Affair and am really enjoying it. I also just picked up The Secret History (both GR recommendations) and will start that as soon..."Not yet, but I am going to soon. I am using the Fourth Bear for the Fall Challenge.
Linda wrote: "Beth wrote: "Recently finished Rules (4 stars), The Magician's Assistant (2 stars), and The Last Days of Dogtown A Novel (1 star). Just beginning [book:Han..."I absolutely LOVE Harlan Coben!!! I love the stories, twists and turns and his satire keeps me roaring with laughter! I've enjored many of his other books; my favorite being Tell No One. That's the first oneI've ever read by him. I just recently finished Hold Tight which was also very capitvating!
Rachel wrote: "I am just started The Eyre Affair and am really enjoying it. I also just picked up The Secret History (both GR recommendations) and will start that as soon as I am finish..."Rachel, you have a great read ahead of you, The Secret History really surprised me, I loved it. So far the Fforde's Thursday Next series hasn't disappointed me either, he has a new series out, Shades of Grey A Novel but I haven't gotten a chance to read that one yet.
THE HISTORIAN was boring and I could not get into it. I picked up THE FIFTH VICTIM by Beverly Barton, and it is much better!
I finished Queen of the Darkness and it was a four star read. This really is a great fantasy series. Now I'm reading Abundance A Novel of Marie Antoinette. So far it's really, really good. The French Revolution is just starting though, so we'll see what I think of this last section. I already find myself thinking, "No! No! Run! Leave the country!" like I can change history or something. :-)
Finished the Devil Wears Prada which i was a little disapointed with, i think the main reason for that was because a saw the movie first.
Now i've just started The Girl Who Played With Fire by Steig Larsson. And i hope its just as good or better than the first in the series.

I've watched the movie but not yet read the book, shame it was a disappointment.
Lori wrote: "I am curious to know what everyone is currently reading.Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell. It's taking a while. It's a big book. *g*
So when I began Mudbound by Hillary Jordan it was pretty much based on the reviews of others more than any burning desire to read this particular book. Welllllll, totally not disappointed. With the first few pages I was like ummmm, but didn't take long for it to grab hold of me and I can't put it down now. So far (about 150 pages in) it is a 5.
Lauren wrote: "Just finished I, Coriander! Loved it! Starting Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder!"I loved the Study series. I am trying to get into Maria Snyder's next series with Storm Glass but I just can't get into it. I keep finding myself speedreading through parts to get to places were it takes about the main characters of the Study series.
I finished reading Niffenegger's The Time Traveler's Wife so now I'm back to continuing Tolkien's The Two Towers =)
I just finished The Road, which I could hardly put down. For me, picking out a new book after finishing another is usually so much fun, however I was still so stuck in McCarthy's world with the father and son that I struggled moving on to a new novel. Alas, I am now reading The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood, and being about 200ish pages in, the jury is still out in how I feel about it. I certainly don't find myself running back to it. We'll see...
Emily wrote: "Tracy, how are you liking The Good Good Pig? I saw it the other day and it looked interesting."I really enjoyed it! Very similar to other memoirs about peoples and their "pets". I learned a lot about pigs, too!
Tracy, I'm glad to see that you enjoyed The Good Good Pig. I have it, but I just haven't gotten around to reading it yet.
I started Twenty Questions A Novel last night and put it down after twenty pages. Could not get into it. Then I started Premonitions by Jude Watson. Despite wanting to slap the main character a time or two in the beginning I stuck with it and it got very interesting. Didn't realize when I started it that it was a YA novel.
I just finished The Franchise Affair by Josephine Tey. I enjoy her mysteries. Not a typical mystery.I haven't decided what to read next. I have another Tey, The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, And Ladies of the Club, and a few others sitting around. What to choose?
Just finished Peony in Love by Lisa See...Wonderful read! Now working on Snow Flower and the Secret Fan...it's even better
I'm currently reading The Observations by Jane Harris and I'm about halfway finished with it. It's definitely intriguing and surprisingly really funny in some parts. The narrator is really dark and sarcastic.
Right now I'm rereading Neverwhere A Novel, and after that I'm gonna start working on Stienbeck's East of Eden :)
Vicki wrote: "I am reading The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss."I read that recently and really liked it. It sucked me in immediately and never let go.

It seems like its going to be that kind of book!
I've finished reading Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami. Really, really enjoyed it.Now I'm in the "What to read next?" disorder--big time.
So I've started two books at the same time--really about four books; but I'm admitting to only two right now.
I'm reading the graphic novel Watchmen by Alan Moore. I am also reading Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse by Louise Erdrich.
Jessica wrote: "Just started The Turn of the Screw by Henry James."
Oh god, this book was a chore for me, Jessica! I hope you like it better than I did.... ha ha.. I read it for the Lost list, but wish I hadnt.
But YEAH for reading and loving Motherless Brooklyn. Wasnt the main character such a likeable guy?

I'm definately feeling the pain of Turn of the Screw. I've been reading it for 2 days, and I'm only on page 38! I LOVED Lionel in Motherless Brooklyn. Now I can't wait to see the movie. I think Ed Norton will play him perfectly.
Jessica, once you have finished it, let me know, I have a few questions on what I think took place in that book, and would love to get your opinions on it!
i have around 40 pages left in The Mysteries of Pittsburgh so i should finish that up tomorrow evening. i think i'll start either The Help or The Skin Gods when i'm done.
