I am starting The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls in about two minutes (trying to peel myself away from this site). Just finished Pretties by Scott Westerfeld.

Sometimes you just need a good fairy tale. :)"
Liz, I have to admit, I did chuckle...just a little. But you're so right; a good fairy tale now and then does a body good.
I'm currently reading "The Count Of Monte Cristo" and "Maria Callas, The Woman Behind The Legend". I'm also leafing through the "cultural dictionary" which I'm in love with. I'm enjoying all of them immensely.
Cait, One Day in the Life... was a very quick read!
Rachel, dont forget to pop into the CoMC discussion thread, as you go along. Great book!

I am currently reading A Map of the World by Jane Hamilton. Rachel let me know how The Count of Monte Cristo is when you get through. I just love the movie and I have not read the book yet. I have been putting it off because it is a thick book.
Renee, having just read it myself, I gotta tell you, dont let the size scare you. Its a fanatasic book!
I finished Trader (Newford Book 7), which just reinforced for me again why I love Charles de Lint. Now I'm picking up Cemetery Dance. Having read several of these authors' other books, I'm pretty shocked here at the beginning!
I've just finished Gloriana's Torch by Patricia Finney and I've just started Swastika Night by Katherine Burdekin.

I couldn't manage it... put it down, twice, at page 10 or 15. It looked so promising. Let me know if it gets better, I may try again!!

Anybody know: is the eReader version of count of monte cristo the complete or the abridged?

Hi everyone, I'm sorta new to your clan but I'm just going to jump right on in here and say I'm reading No, by George Papaellinas. And it's going swell. I'm wondering if anyone is interested to come and pop a quick vote on the poll The Most Disturbing Book Ever Written. I'm curious to know which books have given people the heebie jeebies so I can add them to my shopping list. Cheers!

You're right, that was a quick (but good) read!
In print, I'm reading The Photograph by Penelope Lively. It feels similar to The Time Traveler's Wife, at least to me.On audio, I'm just starting The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.
Ann from S.C. wrote: "SATURDAY is boring the crap out of me. I am putting it down."
Ha! I suffered through it for weeks and hated it. It was a yawn fest if ever I read one!

I bought Best Friends Forever the other day and got to see Jennifer Weiner - and hear her talk for an hour...she was hilarious. Got my book signed too :)

Katie, I just loved that book - isn't the narrator just perfect for it?! The whole series is good, and some are great, like this one.

I will have to check her website and see if she will be anywhere remotely close to me!

I gave it an honest shot, I read like 150 pgs but ultimately just gave up and and stopped. It was a really unusual book.
Suzanne wrote: "Just purchased 'Time Travelers Wife' and 'Ravens' by George Dawes Green...But right now I am reading 'The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane', CANNOT put it down!!!"
I just purchased Time Traveler's Wife as well and am about 200 pages into it. Good read!
Kris wrote: "I've just started The Time Traveler's Wife. Wanted to read it before the movie comes out."I had it on my TBR list but decided now was the time for that same reason. I did see the preview for the movie and it looks pretty good...we will see how it holds up to the book!
Yvette wrote: "Currently reading:Julie and Julia My Year of Cooking Dangerously"Yvette...how is it? I have almost picked it up a couple of times but I just have so many books to read right now and several of them are library books so I am on a deadline of sorts...
Just finished Woman in White by Wilkie Collins - what a wonderfully-told story - definitely belongs on the "1001 Books to Read Before You Die" list. Now to concentrate on The Yiddish Policemen's Union - the plot has begun to thicken, as they say.

Anyway, I had the opportunity to see Jennifer Weiner on Monday for her book signing as well! I agree, she should totally do stand-up comedy!
Okay, I finished 'The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane' last night.Really one of the most outstanding books that I have read in a long time.
I was very moved by parts of this book, and it dealt with subject matter that I never would have been inclined to purchase before.
I highly recommend this book to ALL of you. I can't wait to hear what you all have to say!!!
This is why I love this group...it makes you take chances with books you may never have picked!!!
Lori wrote: "That's great that you got the chance to meet an author face to face!"It was pretty cool. I've never gone to a book signing before, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I must say Jennifer Weiner was great. She even took a minute to chat with me after I told her that my baby girl (due any day) will be named Addie, which is one of the main characters in Best Friends Forever. The name choice is totally coincidental, by the way. I didn't even know she had a new book coming out when we chose it.

Someone over the weekend was raving to me about this book as well. The title alone caught my attention at the bookstore weeks ago, but I think now I really should buy it or check to see if my library has it!
Outch hahaI don´t know... it´s feeling too religious :/ But I only read the preface, so.. but if you still aren´t sure haha I´m losting my hope! haha
Parts of it I did like and understand, and other parts just went over my head. Fortunately, it's a short book :)

So far the book is absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend it.

I'd love to talk about it with you. It was this group's read for June.
This morning I finished Shanghai Girls by Lisa See. Now time to peruse the shelves at home and see what's next. Or I may just wait to see what wins in the polls for the August read in this group :)

It is very tough but I did think it was a well done but very hard book.
I just got a message from the library that The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane is ready for me to pick up. So after I finish What's Eating Gilbert Grape.
Lisa wrote: "I just got a message from the library that The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane is ready for me to pick up. So after I finish What's Eating Gilbert Grape.Let me know what you think of Physick Lisa, I have it on my list too.
I finished Valeria's Last Stand which I didn't particular care for and have started The French Lieutenant's Woman which I have higher hopes for.
I've just started reading 'The Time Traveler's Wife', but my library hold of 'The Help' by Kathryn Stockett is ready to be picked up so I'll probably jump into that instead. I'm excited - it seems like a great book!

I totally agree, my husband did a stufy of modern American detective novel while working on his Ph.D and introduced me to reading James Lee Burke.I used to turn my head away from detective novels, but James Lee Burke is a living breathing American writer who is a Dostoevsky of American detective novel. I think of him as a living classic. When I read his books I savour every word.I am going to read "Rain Gods" in August.
