The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo....I am completely lost with this book - hope I figure out this maze I have managed to get myself in with this book. Anyone else having a difficult time with this book?

"Allison, Hope you like the History of Love as much as I did. I enjoy books with quirky characters and this one has a couple that make me laugh. It also tugs at the heart strings, which is one of my sappy weaknesses.

I have found some parts of the book troubling but think the overall story is very good. How far along are you?
Marie Antoinette The Journey just came, but my mother grabbed it first. On the other hand, I am still reading Gone With The Wind.
Vicki wrote: "I finished two books, Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout, a book of short stories which either directly or indirectly revolve around Olive, a rather hard to deal with woman. I als..."Hi Vicki, I also read and liked Olive Kitteridge, but I actually preferred another novel-in-stories, The Nightingales of Troy by Alice Fulton. It follows a family of women across the 20th century. The writing is beautiful, and the characters are real but eccentric rather than difficult people. Right now, I'm just finishing A Season in the Life of Emmanuel by Marie-Claire Blais. It was first published in 1966, but rereleased just recently. For some reason, the new edition isn't listed on Good Reads, just an old edition in French. Anyway, I now think Blais is a genius. Her writing is like none other. This is a great book, should be a classic, but I guess it's a forgotten classic. Ever the literary evangelist, I'm trying to spread the word.
Claire wrote: "I just finished Water for Elephants and really liked it. I am now going to start The Shadow of the Wind and am so excited after all of the great things I've heard about it."Claire, I'm glad you enjoyed Water for Elephants! :) I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of The Shadow of the Wind, it's one of my favorites. :)
Linda wrote: "Allison, Hope you like the History of Love as much as I did. I enjoy books with quirky characters and this one has a couple that make me laugh. I finally finished my book about the writings of Woodrow Wilson. Wasn't sure I was going to make it through that one.I'm about 1/2 way through Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson. I am really enjoying it so far.
i'm nearly halfway through The Eight and i'm really enjoying it. i'm surprised i hadn't heard of this book until my face to face book group selected on a non-member recommendation. it's been around for some time, it was first published in 1988. i think i'm also going to start the Poe group read for this month soon, i need to track down all of the stories first. i have a number of anthologies lying around, so i'm sure i'll be able to read most of the ones included in this collection without any difficulty.

Mike wrote: "Just finished Thousand Splendid Suns (4 star)..as good as Kite Runner..and just began Black Swan Green by David Mitchell which has me hooked early on."Glad you enjoyed A Thousand Splendid Suns as much as you did the Kite Runner!
Lynne wrote: "I just finished The Art of Racing in the Rain and LOVED it. Now I'm reading Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus and also We Need to Talk About Kevin. At the library waiting to be picked up is Lovi..."Lynne - Every time I see someone glancing through The Art of Racing in the Rain in the bookstore I tell them "Buy it!" I LOVE that book. We Need to Talk About Kevin has been in TBR pile forever; I did read Loving Frank - gave it 4 Stars, and also picked up The Women, by TC Boyle about the 4 women in FLW's life, vs. Loving Frank only focuses on Mameh Cheney.

Maria ~ I hear ya! I'm still slogging through John Adams, too. "Slogging" may not be the best term, as it seems to imply that I'm not enjoying it, but I really am. There's just a lot of words! In addition to John Adams, I've also jumped on the Sookie Stackhouse bandwagon - I'm about half-way through Dead Until Dark (have I posted this already? Sorry if I have!)

I'm going to be reading Darkly Dreaming Dexter here soon. I finished Wuthering Heights. It's so overly dramatic but I love it anyway! I'm reading The Poisonwood Bible right now but I'm almost finished.
Eva wrote: "Vicki wrote: "I finished two books, Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout, a book of short stories which either directly or indirectly revolve around Olive, a rather hard to deal wit..."Thanks Eva... Nightingales of Troy sounds interesting, I've added it to my TBR!
I am still reading Shanghai Girls by Lisa See. I loved the beginning of the book. But now that I am at page 200.....I am a little disappointed/bored with it. I still think Snowflower and the Secret Fan is Lisa Sees best work.
Claire wrote: "Jennifer wrote: "My box of books finally came!!! So I'm reading My Sister's Keeper."This is my favourite Picoult book so enjoy! :) PS keep tissues handy!!
"
Oh...the tissues are already next to the book
I haven't been on, but I have now read through 14 in the Stephanie Plum series and waiting on 15.I am currently reading Lock and Key-Sarah Dessen.
I haven't finished Gone with the Wind, but felt compelled to start The Eight last night - I was a little under the weather and not up to Miss Mitchell.
I finished Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea. For something completely different, I am now reading March by Geraldine Brooks.

Thanks, Allison, I'll be sure to let you know. So far TSOTW is really good but I'm not too far in yet.
I finished up The Poisonwood Bible and read Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Other Tales of Terror, The and am now reading The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. I'm pretty sure I'm going to finish it tonight.
I am reading Watership Down. I haven't read it since high school. I remember really enjoying it. So far I am trying to remember why I felt that way, but I am not that far into it. After Watership I will read Great Expectations by Dickens. At that point I will earn the right to read some fluff - complete fluff - any recommendations?
I read Watership for the first time ever this year and couldnt put it down. I watched the movie in my head the entire time... It was great!
I have never seen the movie. I don't want to see it until I finish reading. I am glad you loved Watership - I know I will, just need to keep reading.
I just started The Satanic Verses by Rushdie. So far, I am completely confused. One of my coworkers said that if I can make it through the first 30 pages, I can make it through the whole book. Is this true? Has anyone else been totally confused by this book?
I am now reading Heart and Soul by Danielle Steele. It is quite good. It is also my first time reading this author.
I am almost halfway through My Name Is Red. I like it, but it is slow and kind of hard to read--it's a translation, so I don't know if it's the way the author writes or the translation itself. For a change of pace and a much easier read, I am working on Tarzan of the Apes. I am reading it for the summer challenge same-birthday thingy. I am surprised by how much I am enjoying it--and boy it's an easy read! Hoping to finish tomorrow.

Finished A Single Man; loved the story, love the way he writes. Now reading Jeff Lindsay's Dexter By Design.
I´m getting ready to start The Turn of the Screw & Daisy Miller. I think I´ll start it by the evening... let a couple of hours between book lol
Just finished Everyone She Loved and am going to start the Poisonwood Bible. Also picked up Loving Frank from the library.

Flying home from England yesterday I finished I Capture the Castle which I really enjoyed. When I got home and was doing the stay awake thing, I started Valeria's Last Stand.
Liz wrote: "Flying home from England yesterday I finished I Capture the Castle which I really enjoyed. Glad to hear you liked "I Capture the Castle". I'm enjoying it so far but am only about 50 pages in.
Liz wrote: "Flying home from England yesterday I finished I Capture the Castle which I really enjoyed. When I got home and was doing the stay awake thing, I started Valeria's Last Stand."Liz, let me know how you like it - I won it on Goodreads Giveaways, but haven't read it yet.
Just finished Succubus Blues - Richelle Mead. A great book. I am going to read A Winter's Tale - Mark Helprin (ML).
