I finished The Dark Half. I've been splitting my time between a couple of books: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, and Unicorn Mountain by Michael Lawson Bishop. Jane Eyre is moving a little slowly but it's interesting. Unicorn Mountain is moving pretty slowly as well.

I read Atonement this past winter on the recommendation of a Goodreads friend.

I changed opinion of it a few times while reading it; but ended up loving it. It was my first book by Ian McEwan. I will certainly read more by him.

I just finished Columbine by David Cullen. It was such a mind opening read. It is obviously not a light read and I still feel like I have a lot to process after reading it.

I've got Straw Dogs Thoughts on Humans and Other Animals on the go for some heavy philosophy, The Dark Room for literature, Anonymous Lawyer A Novel for some light fiction and I've just bought Elizabeth Royte's Bottlemania How Water Went on Sale And Why We Bought It for some sociological stuff. I love it when I have a lot of books to read.

I just finished The Scarecrow by Michael Connelly. I liked it, however, I am not as excited about the main character in this series (Jack McEnvoy) as I am with Harry Bosch. I am surprised at how this book ended. Connelly is very obviously planning a sequel.

I am going to start Downtown by Anne Rivers Siddons today. She is one of my all time favorite authors.

I just finished Jesus Land A Memoir. I found it incredibly haunting, especially given today's political climate. I'm now reading Three Lives, and I'm finding it incredibly boring.

Taking a break from the mainstream and reading Dragonstar by Barbara Hambly. This is fourth in a very non formula fantasy series, by an author who's dependable for her very human characters and gorgeous prose. She tends to deliver an exquisite read, with a nice balance of action and reflection to her plots. I've always wondered why this author, and Carol Berg are not more widely read. Both write books to savor.

I am almost done with The Thin Man by Dashiell Hammett. I love the Thin Man movies so thought I would read the book. It's enjoyable. Next I need to finish The Trial by Franz Kaftka. The copy I have has very few paragraphs which makes it visually difficult to read.

Just finished The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Words are insufficient to say how much I loved, loved, loved this book. What a master he is and he just pulls you along with twists and turns that leave you wanting more.

i'm still plugging away at John Adams but i've also started The Quiet Girl. a little odd at first, but it's starting to pick up. i also managed to finish Dirty Sexy Knitting the last in that series.

hoping to finish up at least The Quiet Girl over the course of the week, so that i can start The 19th Wife for my library group AND read the two books from my friend group, The Eight and The Ten Year Nap. yikes, i have a lot of reading to do!

Right now I'm reading The Joy Luck Club and absolutely loving it. The dynamic between the moms and the daughters are both insightful and heartbreaking. Powerful stuff.

I just finished Eat, Pray, Love One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia by Elizabeth Gilbert. When I first started this book, I nearly abandoned it. It seemed to me it was one of those books that you really have to be in the right place in life to read. I pushed myself to continue, though, and am glad I did. This is a finding yourself type of book but it is also about discovery and balance. While I am not going through any kind of personal crisis, as the author was, everyone could use a little more balance in their lives. So, this book played to my need for balance (with one of my goals this summer being to de-stress and chill out a bit) and the wonderlust that I seem to have caught (not that I didn't have it before but it seems to be consuming me currently).

Next up: Catch-22 by Joseph Heller.

I really liked The Book Thief. I especially love the narrator's unique perspective. Moreover, when you're finished, check out I am the Messenger, because it's also really great, and a totally different style.

I did read Shadow of the Wind and loved it. Angel's Game is a different read. While both books have certain characters in common, each has distinctive characters that don't cross over to the other novel. I wasn't certain I was going to like Angel's Game as much, but wound up being mesmerized to the point of not wanting to do anything else but read. I hope Zafon hurries and writes another book. But, to be honest, while I don't usually return to something I have read before, it is tempting to go back to Shadow of the Wind and look at it now from the perspective of seeing it as what follows Angel's Game.

I just finished The God of Spring A Novel by Arabella Edge. It was very interesting but pretty gory in parts. The process that Gericault went through to paint the epic The Raft of the Medusa was amazing.

I loved "Midnight" when I read it years ago and would love to visit Savannah some day. Berendt's descriptions were so vivid.

I just finished The Book Thief. It was amazing. I absolutely loved it...loved all the narrator's side-notes, and I adored Rudy, Papa, and Max. It's one of the only books that actually made me tear up near the end...(Only Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows were able to do that before.)

I'm ready to start Song of Susannah: The Dark Tower VI by Stephen King...just as soon as I write this stupid paper...

Phew just finished reading Labyrinth by Kate Mosse, which i enjoyed every word of :) However was a tad to long getting into the main plot at the start. But alltogether amazing!

Now im starting on the cloud atlas by David Mitchell. Has anyone read this before?

I am currently reading, Girls' Night Out. It is a great book to read for one of our tasks (I forget which one it is now). Anyways the only problem I have is the waiting period before each story because I like for the idea of the story to sink in before I read another one. I'm still unsure as to what author I am going to choose a book from to complete the other part of the task.

I love Amy Tan! If you read another by her next can I recommend The Kitchen God's Wife. It's her best one (besides Joy Luck of course!)

I finished Jane Eyre (finally!) and I'm still working on Unicorn Mountain. I also have Wuthering Heights and The Tall Pine Polka going.
