This is one of my very favorite books. I always feel like I could be reading about my family when I read it. Lee Smith captured our accents and language perfectly.

Alice Hoffman always has some sort of magical element in her books. If you don't like that kind of thing, she just might not be for you. Don't let me discourage you if you really want to try something else, I just wanted to make sure you knew. I do like her books, but I also like reading about fairies and magic. :-)

Couldn't get into Nip n Tuck - Kathy Lette. Tried to read The Boy who taught the Beekeeper to Read - Susan Hill couldn't get into that neither. Now reading Succubus Blues - Richelle Mead which I am finding really good, not my usual kind of book. Need to read the series for the last book to be sent off in a swap and book 3 is awaiting at the local library for me.

I read "The Art of Racing in the Rain" back in December of last year. Just loved it. I loaned it to my daughter after that who also loved it and my Mom read it and loved it also. We are always making comments about Enzo.

Hey everyone: I just got back from seeing My Sister's Keeper at the movies. No reveals in this message, but I did like it. However, what I really wanted to say is that in the event you didn't know, The Time Travelers Wife is coming out in film, but no dates so far. Just to wet your appetite.

Did anyone actually read "2666". I love a good mystery and was sucked in by all the hype when the series came out. I could not finish the books. I want to know if I should have kept trying. They were not cheap.

I love a good mystery. I expecially like ones that take place in other countries or other eras. I am currently reading "A Quiet Flame" by Phillip Kerr, a book set in Argentina after WWII. "Dark Places" by Gillian Flynn because I liked her first book, "Sharp Objects". This one is a bit odd. And finally "All The Colors of Darkness" by Peter Robinson. I like this author and I adore British mysteries. This one is good so far.

You should read The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. It's got all your wants...different eras, different countries, and it's a definite mystery/thriller. It's long, but totally worth it.

Still reading The Book Thief. This summer class is killing my summer reading...

Dewey by Vicki Myron with Bret Witter. I picked this up yesterday at the library. I love cats and sadly do not have one right now. The book cover caught my attention as Dewey (the main character of course) looks very much like a dear cat who shared his life with me. It's been a few years since he has been gone but I still think of him at least once a day. There's something special about orange cats. Really there is..ask anyone who has lived with one. Always friendly to everyone. (even really big dogs!) Comical and sometimes outrageous behavior seem to be traits shared by these fluffy little guys. I'm about halfway through this book and have laughed out loud a few times and there has been a few teary moments. Bookwise I don't expect this to be any more than it
is. A touching tale (or maybe tail!) of an extraordinary cat.

I'm still making my way through the Sookie Stackhouse series, onto book #3 now - Club Dead, i might even finish it tonight only about 100 more pages to go. I'm really liking the series, it's nice and light and even makes me LOL in parts.

Fiona, whay a suprise to see Maxence Fermine name! I never met someone who even read something of him, besides my friend who recommended one of his books to me! By the way, the book was Snow A Novel and loved it. It felt so soft and beautiful.

I just recently finished reading "Lives of The Saints" by Canadian author Nino Ricci. It is the first book of a trilogy and I was totally captivated by it. I am now reading the second book of the series "In A Glass House".

Still reading Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes. Has anyone read her books? It keepssuprising me how I like them and fly through them. Every book is about one of the Walsh daughters from Dublin. This one, just like the others, made me feel like it would be boring...because the beginnings are a bit slow and you don't know anything about the person but then suddenly it changes and again, I am loving it, read more than 100 pages while I would have normally read half of it in the same time....and I want to continue reading becasue I feel so curious.

Jeane, I'm glad you're liking Rachel's Holiday! :) Marian Keyes is one of my favorite authors. I agree with you about flying through them. If you haven't yet, I would highly recommend reading Anybody Out There? and This Charming Man... those are my favorites of hers. :)

I just started Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I haven't checked this group in months (been in a bit of a reading slump) so I wasn't aware before that it is one of the current group reads--nifty coincidence. I had to read the original first, but now I'm looking forward to the addition of zombies.

I'm trudging along through Case Histories A Novel.
I like the idea of the story, and when it focuses on the actual cases, I really enjoy it. It just seems like there is so much unnecessary talk about how one of the characters has no sex life, but wants one; and about another character's ex-wife. At first I chalked it up to character development, but now I'm not seeing how it is going to enhance the story. I'm about 2/3 of the way through, and I'm really hoping it will pick up.
