What are you reading?
Just finished The Art of Racing in the RainGoing to start The Scarecrow
I can't wait.
It's been a while since I've read something by one of my favorite authors :)
Couldn't get into Nip n Tuck - Kathy Lette. Tried to read The Boy who taught the Beekeeper to Read - Susan Hill couldn't get into that neither. Now reading Succubus Blues - Richelle Mead which I am finding really good, not my usual kind of book. Need to read the series for the last book to be sent off in a swap and book 3 is awaiting at the local library for me.

Hope you are enjoying The Time Traveller's Wife.

Hope you enjoy it, Kellie. It's great.
I read "The Art of Racing in the Rain" back in December of last year. Just loved it. I loaned it to my daughter after that who also loved it and my Mom read it and loved it also. We are always making comments about Enzo.
Paula wrote: "I'll be starting "Killer Cruise" Laura Levine this afternoon. Her books are so witty."I love her Jaine Austen series! She's so funny.
I just read "What Looks Like Crazy" By Charlotte Hughes and I thought it was a wonderful book..I'm reading The Glass Castle right now and Im on page 40 and I think its terrific. I'm really enjoying it.

I'm going to add Racing in the Rain to my TBR list - lots of good comments on this one in this thread.

No reveals in this message, but I did like it. However, what I really wanted to say is that in the event you didn't know, The Time Travelers Wife is coming out in film, but no dates so far. Just to wet your appetite.

Linda, Glad you liked My Sister's Keeper. YAY for The Time Travelers Wife! I was at the movies the other day watching The Proposal, and I saw the preview... it looks good! :)
Edith wrote: "Paula wrote: "I'll be starting "Killer Cruise" Laura Levine this afternoon. Her books are so witty."I love her Jaine Austen series! She's so funny.
She is funny Edith, I always get her new book right away when it comes out.
Linda wrote: "Paula wrote: "I read "The Art of Racing in the Rain" back in December of last year. Just loved it. Did anyone actually read "2666". I love a good mystery and was sucked in by all the hype when the series came out. I could not finish the books. I want to know if I should have kept trying. They were not cheap.
I love a good mystery. I expecially like ones that take place in other countries or other eras. I am currently reading "A Quiet Flame" by Phillip Kerr, a book set in Argentina after WWII. "Dark Places" by Gillian Flynn because I liked her first book, "Sharp Objects". This one is a bit odd. And finally "All The Colors of Darkness" by Peter Robinson. I like this author and I adore British mysteries. This one is good so far.

It's got all your wants...different eras, different countries, and it's a definite mystery/thriller. It's long, but totally worth it.
Still reading The Book Thief. This summer class is killing my summer reading...
Dewey by Vicki Myron with Bret Witter. I picked this up yesterday at the library. I love cats and sadly do not have one right now. The book cover caught my attention as Dewey (the main character of course) looks very much like a dear cat who shared his life with me. It's been a few years since he has been gone but I still think of him at least once a day. There's something special about orange cats. Really there is..ask anyone who has lived with one. Always friendly to everyone. (even really big dogs!) Comical and sometimes outrageous behavior seem to be traits shared by these fluffy little guys. I'm about halfway through this book and have laughed out loud a few times and there has been a few teary moments. Bookwise I don't expect this to be any more than it is. A touching tale (or maybe tail!) of an extraordinary cat.
I am in-between books at the moment. I just finished reading A Confederacy of Dunces the other day, and I haven't decided what book I want to read yet. So instead of novels, it's poetry.Good Poems, Garrison Keillor
The Anchor Anthology of French Poetry
The Essential Rumi
I never denied that I have an eclectic taste in what I read. :p
I'm still making my way through the Sookie Stackhouse series, onto book #3 now - Club Dead, i might even finish it tonight only about 100 more pages to go. I'm really liking the series, it's nice and light and even makes me LOL in parts.
Abbie K. wrote: "Just finished The Secret Life of Bees Wow! What an emotional ringer, but well worth the effort!"Abbie, I loved the feeling of different warm, sunny colours and energy that I had to think of after having read the book. And loved the title!
Fiona (Titch) wrote: "Just had a bath and read The Beekeeper - Maxence Fermine. So now will read Nip n Tuck - Kathy Lette"Fiona, whay a suprise to see Maxence Fermine name! I never met someone who even read something of him, besides my friend who recommended one of his books to me! By the way, the book was Snow A Novel and loved it. It felt so soft and beautiful.
I just recently finished reading "Lives of The Saints" by Canadian author Nino Ricci. It is the first book of a trilogy and I was totally captivated by it. I am now reading the second book of the series "In A Glass House".
Still reading Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes. Has anyone read her books? It keepssuprising me how I like them and fly through them. Every book is about one of the Walsh daughters from Dublin. This one, just like the others, made me feel like it would be boring...because the beginnings are a bit slow and you don't know anything about the person but then suddenly it changes and again, I am loving it, read more than 100 pages while I would have normally read half of it in the same time....and I want to continue reading becasue I feel so curious.
Jeane wrote: "Still reading Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes. Has anyone read her books? It keepssuprising me how I like them and fly through them. If you haven't yet, I would highly recommend reading Anybody Out There? and This Charming Man... those are my favorites of hers. :)
Now I'm reading: Sea of Faith Islam and Christanity in the Medieval Mediterranean World". It's another fascinating read so far.
I just started Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I haven't checked this group in months (been in a bit of a reading slump) so I wasn't aware before that it is one of the current group reads--nifty coincidence. I had to read the original first, but now I'm looking forward to the addition of zombies.
I'm trudging along through Case Histories A Novel.I like the idea of the story, and when it focuses on the actual cases, I really enjoy it. It just seems like there is so much unnecessary talk about how one of the characters has no sex life, but wants one; and about another character's ex-wife. At first I chalked it up to character development, but now I'm not seeing how it is going to enhance the story. I'm about 2/3 of the way through, and I'm really hoping it will pick up.
I've started reading Robert Harris's Archangel (main character is a historian + Russian history + mystery = Li is soooo going to enjoy this, LOL) and Benedict Anderson's Imagined Communities Reflections on the Origin and Spread of Nationalism, New Edition (since one of my academic interests is national identity; this book has been referred to time and again so I figured it's time to read it for myself =))

Just started reading Labyrinth by Kate Mosse, which my sister bought me for my birthday. Ive read about 40 pages so far, and it has captivated my attention allready- I think i shall be up all night reading this!
Finally finished Breaking Dawn and I am now going to read The Scarlet Letter for the summer challenge. My friend hated it and gave it one star...I'm hoping I enjoy it a little bit more!
Just got finished with Three Cups of Tea which I really loved. I have so many books that I'm excited about on my TBR list that it took me a long time to figure out what I'm going to read next, but I think I finally settled on Shelter Me by Juliette Fay...has anyone else read this?
Shonal wrote: "Just got finished with Three Cups of Tea which I really loved. It's been on my tbr shelf forever. Maybe I'll move it up a notch or two...
I'm still plugging along through American Gods. I can't NOT finish a book, though this one is likely to make me look sideways at everything for awhile. Really twisted.
I'll be on to Steinbeck's The Winter of our Discontent next and then Atlas Shrugged (for a scholarship essay thing)...
Jessica wrote: "Finally finished Breaking Dawn and I am now going to read The Scarlet Letter for the summer challenge. My friend hated it and gave it one star...I'm hoping I enjoy it a little bit more!"Just be warned that the symbolism is kind of ridiculous.
Its so interesting reading these pages, we have such a wide range of tastes when it comes to books... yet we all manage to share the love, and end up reading each others current reads... ha! I think that's really great.
I've just started Anonymous Lawyer A Novel by Goodreads author Jeremy Blachman. I'm also reading R.K. Narayan's Bachelor of Arts (I've almost finished it) and fancied something a bit light.
I just finished Me and Emma by Elizabeth Flock. I liked it, was quite shocked by the twist at the end. Now onto Fade by Lisa McMann, it should be a really quick read.
I'm reading The Nanny Diaries. I'm loving it so far and it reminds me of the days when I was a nanny
Lori, I agree!! :) It's so great to see! :) I just finished The Time Traveler's Wife. I wasn't sure I'd like it since the reviews were so mixed, but I LOVED it! :) Now I'm starting The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway.

This is one of my very favorite books. I always feel like I could be reading about my family when I read it. Lee Smith captured our accents and language perfectly.

Alice Hoffman always has some sort of magical element in her books. If you don't like that kind of thing, she just might not be for you. Don't let me discourage you if you really want to try something else, I just wanted to make sure you knew. I do like her books, but I also like reading about fairies and magic. :-)
For those of you reading The Book Thief, People of the Book, and Water for Elephants--those have all been past group reads here on TNBBC. When you finish, you might want to check out the threads about them.
