Suvi (orpheusbooks) This may be a stupid question but I'm curious :

I want to add a book manually but it's for example in Finnish and haven't been translated to English. Should I just leave the title in Finnish?

I have the librarian status so it would be great to know a bit more about the translated books. What is allowed and what is not...

Anna | 22 comments Hej Suvi!

If there have been translations of books I've read (in Swedish), I've added the translations. (I have in fact read most of the translations as well, out of curiosity. Anyhow, I have a subshelf titled "In Swedish" where I have also placed the translations.)

But when no translation into English exist I've just added the original version, but have perhaps written my own review in English.

I think it would be confusing to add a book in English that is yet to be translated. For one thing - if it does get translated at a later point, the title might not be the same as in the original language. I would hate to see someone going on a wild goose chase after a book that does not exist. :)
Also, the ISBN-numbers differs depending on which language the book is (translated into/ in.

But those are just my thoughts.

:)
regards
Anna

Femmy | 26 comments I agree with Anna, I would just leave the title in the original language. For example, there are a lot of Indonesian titles now in the database, with descriptions in Indonesian.

Suvi (orpheusbooks) Thanks for your thoughts, I think I'm just going to stick with the Finnish title. Makes everything easier :)

Anna | 22 comments I also have to say that as much as I love the fact that I can share some of my favorite Swedish books with the non-Swedish speaking, I also love how the various languages reflect the geographical spread of the users of this site. :)

We agree - each edition is best left in the language it was published in.

Max Nemtsov (spintongues) | 8 comments someone, please look at the discussion we're having with erik graff regarding translations:

http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

- and please advice, if the man's right and there was a change of policies we didn't notice and should emigrate from goodreads to more tolerant and friendlier systems, or the man should be stopped because he's killing books.

This Is Not The Michael You're Looking For | 949 comments I agree, Erik certainly seems to be misinterpreting the rules. Someone with authority should probably talk to him.

I don't really have authority, but maybe that did some good.
