Probably an edition of 1984 that my uncle gave me. I've only et him once but for a year he kept sending me first or second edition Orwells. Strange...but very nice.
There are only two books in my now small collection I consider valuable, probably only to me. My signed first edition of my friend Larry Blocks book, and a copy of my first published book. Hopefully, there will soon be more to add to that second category.
I love Lawrence Block's Scudder books and have many of them as signed 1st editions. My most valuable is probably "Black and Blue" by Ian Rankin. He signed at dated it for me at Bouchercon, Monterey. What, I suspect, really adds value,in spite of it being the US release, is that it also wrote a note saying "1st copy I've signed!" as it had just been released. I met Lawrence Block, as well as many other others, at this same event.
Probably alot of people are going to roll their eyes at me, but my most valuable book is a signed copy of This Moment on Earth by John and Teresa Kerry.
I have many many books that are valuable to me. I have several Johnny Gruelle Raggedy Ann and Andy books - including the one that was give to me around my first birthday (40 something years ago!)I have several books signed by Patrick McDonnell of Mutts fame. Of course MY FAVE book is by Viggo Mortensen - I waited 3 hours in the cold winter weather in NYC to meet him and have him sign his latest book!
Japi - I am envious of your Maya Angelou. I would guess that mine is signed first edition of The Spy Who Came in From the Cold by John LeCarre.
I would have to say that mine is a very old book that a favorite uncle gave to me. It is called The Beautiful Story Gems of Religious Thought, dated 1872. I'm not sure of its monetary value, its my favorite solely through sentiment.
I thought of 3 more - I have the signed Polar Bear trilogy "The Cat Who Came For Christmas", "The Cat and the Curmudgeon" and "The Best Cat Ever" all signed by the late Cleveland Amory.
I have "The Cat Who Came For Christmas" (unsigned), which is one of the Christmas books I like to reread every year.
My copy of The Holy Bible, New King James Version, is the most valuable to me because I've read it during so many important phases of my life; it is very inspirational and reminds me that I can make it through anything.

mine is a maya angelou 1st signed edition of all god's children needs traveling shoes and a 1902 compilation of Longfellow's writing..
