Wanted: Reading Buddies
Angus wrote: "H: Baka mid-December pa siya. Will alert you kapag malapit na. :DDante: YW, but really, I haven't read that yet. :D"
I haven't read any Dickens lol...
Dante: Then I agree with Angus. Read THE CHRISTMAS CAROL. The recent movie adaptation is very loyal to the book too. The one starring Jim Carey. Kuhang-kuha nila ang original illustrations sa book.
KD: I think we can start All the King's Men on December 9, Friday. 1 chapter a day, and each chapter is looong. Hopefully tapos na ako sa Invisible Man by that time.H, Aldrin: I think we can start Midnight's Children on December 19. 3 chapters a day. Holidays not included. And by the way, are we going to do this here or on our respective blogs?
H: I checked 2666 and it is not divided into chapters (it is divided into books!). I wonder how we can divide this? By pages?
Angus: Midnights' Chilren, Dec. 19...Ok! Maybe we can do it here...then, blogging optional. 2666....hmmm....puwede by pages. Tignan ko nga copy ko mamaya to see what we can do about that.
You'll be moderating both right? :D I've never done this before so, so we just discuss things in general after each assigned chapter or may guide questions ba....?
H: Check out some of the buddy reading threads. They are not strictly moderated because usually pairs naman sila. Mostly thought inputs, but you can also do some summaries, hehehe.
H: I think okay naman ang 3 chapters a day for Midnight's Children, parang 50 pages a day. Or is that too fast for you?Jan. 3 is a Tuesday, well, okay na rin yun. @_@
Ok lang yung 3 chapters (about 50 pages) a day. Tingin ko, kaya naman. We don't have to do the 2666 on Jan.3...kala ko lang kasi yun yung original date that you proposed....? Anytime would be ok for me, just let me know.
I intend to start the year 2012 with a book as gigantic as 2666. Kaya pwede na rin sa akin ang January 3.By the way, this is my edition:
Pwede ring may guide questions. I'll hunt for those (both sa Midnight's Children at 2666).
OK! I have the same edition of '2666' I think.....I'll double check later, but I'm pretty sure it's the same.

KD: Kelangan mo ba basahin yung Ulysses ng January? I-reading buddy na lang natin yon sometime in 2012 tapos sali ka na lang sa 2666 in Feb 3. The more the merrier :)
Eh diba nga yung Cloud Atlas hindi niya tinapos, kaya nga lagi kong nilalagay "if he's still up to it."
1) Ulysses (Joyce) - maybe February 2012
2) Infinite Jest (Wallace) - no copy
3) 2666 (Bolano) - January 2012
5) Executioner's Song (Mailer) - no copy
6) Atlas Shrugged (Rand) - unahin muna ang The Fountainhead
10) Middlemarch (Eliot) - no copy
11) Tom Jones (Fielding) - no copy
19) The Confessions of Nat Turner (Styron) - nasa Baguio
20) The French Lieutenant's Woman (Fowles) - nasa Baguio
21) The Recognitions (Gaddis) - no copy
22) Catch-22 (Heller) - 2012
23) On the Road (Kerouac) - no copy
25) An American Tragedy (Dreiser) - 2012
28) The Brothers Karamazov (Dostoevsky) - no copy
29) Don Quixote (Cervantes) - no copy
30) The Tale of Genji (Shikibu) - my copy is the abridged edition.
Angus: Hahaha...maybe you mean makulit na commenter :P Hindi pa naman ako nagsisisi, pero ka jo-join ko pa lang naman eh hehehe.KD: Actually gusto ko rin basahin yang Brothers Karamazov, so magsabi ka next year, baka maki reading buddy ako.

I have the same edition. How about we read 50 pages a day and end at the big dot separating sections?
Hahaha. Sige, I will check my edition para madivide na natin siya. At hindi naman ba tayo excited? May Midnight's Children pa! :D
Nakapila rin si Theodore Dreiser for this year, his An American Tragedy. 800-pager din. At Andersonville ni MacKinlay Kantor, a Pulitzer winner.
Nabasa ko rin yong "We the Living" nya. Parang mas nagustuhan ko yon. Alin ba ang magkakaroon ng sine? "Atlas Shugged" ba?
Yung The Anthem maigsi lang.
Syempre! Tinatapos ko na nga ang A Passage to India eh. Gagawa ka ba ng thread ng Midnight's Children dito where we post stuff?
ANGELA'S ASHES by Frank McCourt (Cary, Kwesi, Rollie, Ingrid & Sheryl). Start Date: December 21, Wednesday
Omaygad, Kwesi. One of my favorite memoirs!!! I read this pre-GR but I think my feeling for it holds through even if I read hundreds of other memoirs. I think still have the VCD copy of the movie. I used to have bookmarks used in Singapore promo campaign also when they showed the movie. This is included in TFG100, BTW.Can't wait to read what you and your buddies think about the book. :)
Haha. Nabasa ko nga ang review mo and I can't wait to read it kasi nga most of you guys loved it.
Maraming may gusto nyan.
@KRIZIA: I have that in my tbr. I even bought the 3rd book last week (on sale). But I am in the thick of reading the Booker 2011 shortlisted books.
Two years ago.
Sige. I'm excited to read it na kasi. May nabili kasi ako na "Out of Oz" na may signature ni Maguire.hehe Natuwa lang kaya I decided to make it my holiday read.

Anyway, let's just talk about it when the both of us has read it.
Happy reading, Kwesi! ;)
