I need to finish Midnight's Children at the uhm, stroke of midnight (January 1).
Po: I can join you in reading "Fall on Your Knees." On one condition: You will be the one to open the thread and motivate me to continue reading. If you stop, I'll stop. H: Game on David Foster Wallace's "An Infinite Jest." When do you want to start? Same condition. You'll be the one to open the thread, dictate the speed, and if you stop, I'll stop.
Game also to James Joyce's "Ulysses"
I can read 3 books simultaneously. I don't have any buddy book nowadays! :)

Because I'm the Devil's spawn let me take this space as this message is symbolically numbered so... >:)
Angus wrote: "I am not sure, but I've read somewhere that it should have been entitled Infinite Footnotes, hahaha. Regarding Ulysses, when do you want to start? Gulp."Anytime next year...I have mixed feelings about Ulysses. Though I definitely want to read it, I'm not exactly excited to start. Anytime next year would be fine...just let me know when you're ready lol.
Aldrin wrote: "I hope you two aren't starting soon since I've just flipped to page 1 of 944 of 1Q84. Haha."lol...take your time :)

hahaha...ganon ba yon?? I don't now how to moderate book discussions. I need some tips from pros like you guys. :D Let's start in 2012?
2012 is the year of reading impossibly long and complicated books. I'm just preparing for the end of the world...at least I can say I read Ulysses and Infinite Jest before I died. LOL
Aldrin: Last book for the year ko na ang Midnight's Children. Siguro 2 weeks before the H: I've read War and Peace so I have something to boast of, haha. Infinite Jest is longer by 15k words, so bigger bragging rights for you! And you are in good hands with KD, I've read half a dozen books with him.
Angus wrote: "Aldrin: Last book for the year ko na ang Midnight's Children. Siguro 2 weeks before the world year ends. Keri mo ba?H: I've read War and Peace so I have something to boast of, haha. Infinite Jest..."
In terms of longest book I read...It's either Jonathan Strange or one of the Harry Potter books which were both around 1,000 pages, but I don't think HP books count. In terms of content + pages I'm proud to say that I finished "Les Miserables," and liked it a lot!
Good idea with reading Midnight's Children before the year ends. I tried reading that earlier this year but stopped...maybe I should pick it up again too.
Maybe I should give a copy of Infinite Jest to the first person who agrees to read it with me....parang incentive lang :P LOL.
H wrote: "Maybe I should give a copy of Infinite Jest to the first person who agrees to read it with me....parang incentive lang :P LOL. "WOW! A wonderful proposal! It's a good thing that I did not buy Infinite Jest at Power Books SM MOA before it closed because someone is giving away freebies, hahaha.
And why aren't HP books counted? At least hindi sila Twilight, hehehe.
Hahahaha. Hindi lang sya counted kasi easy read ang Harry Potter....parang wala lang ang 1,000 pages pag HP eh....and sa hardback edition nyan, malalaki ang font and spaces LOL.
The no. of pages can be deceiving. Jonathan Strange might be 1,000+ but the words per page may not really be dense. I have a feeling that War and Peace, Anna Karenina, The Suitable Boy or Ulysses and yes Infinite Jest could be longer. Forget about Harry Potter.
My vote is for "Rememberance of the Things Past" a.k.a. "In Search of Lost Time" by Marcel Proust given that it is composed of 6 books that is sometimes published as 1 big huge volume. Even Anthony Powell's "Dance to the Music of Time" (12 books or 4 books x 3 or 1 huge volume) is even shorter if you take the number of words.
I think that is arbitrary because it is a fluvial novel. And the volumes were not published simultaneously. Could be considered a series? But yes, most consider it as a single work.

Angus: Keribels! Just ping me soon before we start. That it'll cover the Christmas vacation would certainly help.
H: I loved Jonathan Strange. Didn't mind squinting to make out the tiny font once in a while. :p
I googled the longest novel and "A Suitable Boy" together with "Atlas Shrugged" are included up in the list. Jzhun: Let's buddy read this Ayn Rand novel. It's been 4 decades since I read "The Fountainhead". Heard that Atlas will soon be made into a movie.
RE: Longest NovelI think it's this one: The Blah Story, Volume 1. 3,277,227 words. Twice of Lost Time's word count.

Though Elsworth Toohey will remain my favorite character from the book and he still is. I imagine him kasi as Robin Williams when I was reading it (maybe because I watched Patch Adams then? Can't remember).
Let's do it next year as I will be on the hunt for a good quality copy. :)

The Reading Buddy Goon Squad?
Ahaha! :D
@Jzhun: They called the group Portmanteau taken from one of Rollie's reviews. Haha. You have to ask Cary why and I think he deleted his review of that book.
Hindi yun yung reason bakit ko dinelete. May gang ka pang nalalaman. Kaw lang naman ang gangster eh. :D Peace.
Po, I saw your 5 stars for FALL ON YOUR KNEES. Do you want us to read COLD MOUNTAIN next?
At di ako mahilig magbasa ng ebook. :) Page 10.
Pag cash P18,500. Pag straight credit P19,500. Di ko tinanong pag 6 months to pay installment. Para na rin syang iPad. Pedeng mag-internet,etc. At colored sya.
THE KNOWN WORLD by Edward P. Jones (Kwesi, Rollie, Sheryl & Angus). Start Date: November 29, Tuesday
