Wanted: Reading Buddies
Louize wrote: "They say that Alan Hollinghurst is very good with his prose."I think this is true. A local writer blogged about hunting for Hollinghurst's latest book. And I have a feeling that Hollinghurst is not for the general reading public.
K.D. wrote: "Tinalo ang "Cloud Atlas"? What an upset! ha ha"
I was upset because I like Cloud Atlas. I hope The Line of Beauty can come close to the enjoyment I had with Mitchell's monumental work.
Monique wrote: "Hmm, I'll research on the book first because it's the first time I've heard of it, haha."
I sometimes see it on the shelves of Book Sale outlets. Margaret Thatcher is mentioned in the blurb of my edition, and there's going to be a biopic regarding her maybe next year. Wala lang, may masabi lang, haha.

of the 4 One Flee Over the Cuckoo's Nest lang ang di ko pa nabasa, ive been meaning to read it, KD, pero di ko makita ang copy ko..ugggh! Good luck sa readings mo!

Shiela, when do you want to start with Franzen's Freedom? I can start on Monday, Aug 8 or Aug 15. Please let me know.Dra. Ranee, when are we going to start with A Game of Thrones? I'd like to start on Monday, Aug 8 or Aug 15.
K.D., let's start reading Freedom on Monday, August 8. I'm excited. Franzen is a living and breathing classic author or so they say.
Any takers for a reading of Tales of H.P. Lovecraft.Wala lang, gusto ko lang may makasama pag sumakit na ulo ko sa mga weird stories ni Lovecraft. :)
Angus wrote: "Jzhun, let's read Blood Meridian kapag may nahanap na ako. :D"Maarte ako. I'll try to read McCarthy from his recent to his oldest.
Ito na lang! Since madaling hanapin at meron na ko. O di ba, ang self-serving ko. :D
Next McCarthy ko na ang Blood Meridian eh, pero wala pa rin ako nun, haha. Mukhang nagkaubusan sa mga book stores.
Angus, ako! I want to read "Blood Meridian" with you.
"I'm a lousy book buddy" - yan ang huling drama nya kapag niyayaya kong mag-buddy read. Huli kaming nagtangkang magbasa together ay yong Watership Down at ako ang di nakatapos ha ha. Kaya palagay ko, ako ang pinaparinggan nya dyan sa drama nya ha ha.Very easy read kasi yong 2 kong on-going ngayon. "Up in the Air" at "Perfume" tapos slow lang ang pace namin kaya pede pa akong sumingit ng "Freedom". Pagdating ng "Line of Beauty" supposed to be tapos na ang 2 na yon. Tas si Jonathan Franzen di naman mahirap intindihin ang prose nyan. Nabasa ko ang ang "The Corrections." Drama-dramahan lang.

Really, it's may fault. And recall kung gaano ako katamad nung When The Elephants Dance.
I think, the trouble with me is mas gusto ko yung mga face-to-face book discussion.
Ian Oliver wrote: "So, for those who agreed to buddy read A Game of Thrones I'm okay for Monday, August 8. :D"Aw, I'm currently having it on audio na. Pero chapter 6 pa lang naman ako. Makikisingit-singit na lang ako sa discussion n'yo. Hopefully that's ok.
Krizia: Funny!Ian:: I'd like to read it with you but we are not yet done with "Game of Thrones." Can we do it after?
Krizia: Oh God I want to read that with you! Can we start on Monday, Aug 22? I have 3 buddy books currently plus 1 coming up this Monday. I can have another one on the 22nd!
Hi guys, let me know if anyone's ready to read A Storm of Swords and buddy-read with me. I'm still only halfway through book 2 though, but we can schedule it na. I might also read Middlesex in September, if anyone's interested. :)
ED, I have that book! Unfortunately, I also have half a dozen books on my 'immediately-to-read pile' so I can't read it with you anytime soon. Sorry :(
I'm doing the A to Z Reading Challenge this year and I still need to read books by authors with surnames that begin with I, N, W and Y. Hopefully I can start next week, since I still need to finish a couple more titles. Any takers? When We Were Orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro
or
A Widow for One Year/Last Night in Twisted River by John Irving (My sister is a big fan but I haven't read anything of him.)
Sabriel by Garth Nix
or
Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabokov
Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson
or
Brideshead Revisited by Evely Waugh
Amrita by Banana Yoshimoto
or
The Great Philippine Jungle Energy Cafe by Alfred Yuzon (Though I'd prefer not to read this next week, since August was Buwan ng Wika for me.)
hi kristel i think i'll go for "A widow for one year" yan lang kc my copy ako hehee tell me when to start ha pr mkpg preper ako..tnx
Kristel: I am up for Ishiguro, Nabokov or Banana. For Irving, I want to read "Garp" or "Meany" first but I think you've read them already. But I cannot start next week, I still have Eugenides (Middlesex) and I am still finishing Franzen (Freedom) this week.
So, I think I will just catch on or something.
Can I join sa Middlesex???Should anyone here read (see below), I'd love to join din...
1984- George Orwell
The Perks of Being a Wallflower- Stephen Chbosky
Lord of the Flies- William Golding
Midwives- Chris Bohjalian
A Thousand Splendid Suns- Khaled Hosseini
Atonement- Ian McEwan
@hi! marian maybe i can join you in The Perks of being a wallflower yan lang din kc un my copy ako tell me wen to start
Yes, Marian, by all means you can join us reading "Middlesex"!I'd like to read "Wallflower" with you. Are you okay reading it simultaneously with "Middlesex"?
I have not read "Midwives" also but I think that book can wait.

That's fine with me. Let me know our pacing for The Perks...
Po wrote: "@hi! marian maybe i can join you in The Perks of being a wallflower yan lang din kc un my copy ako tell me wen to start"Po! we'll start reading on sept 5, 2 chapters/day..
Po: I can start by September 4 or 5. Available ka na ba nun? :)Kuya Doni: This is actually the first Irving I'm gonna read ahaha. I've watched parts of the movie version of Garp on HBO though. Would you like to read Amrita the week after next? (September 11-17)?
Haven't read Kitchen yet. Amrita would be the first Yoshimoto I'll read. Also the only copy I have. XD Sept. 19 would be great!

Hmm, I'll research on the book first because it's the first time I've heard of it, haha.
Kuya, I'm also due to read The Mermaid Chair but if it's as simple as The Secret Life of Bees, pass muna ako sa buddy reads. Tsaka kayang-kaya na yan ng powers mo. ;)
