Stephanie | 15 comments This is a nonfiction book that describes the life of upperclass English people who lived in Egypt during the Second World War. It describes Shepheard's Hotel in detail and includes a description of how it was bombed. It also talks about the lengths to which English people promoted animal rights and built a veterinary hospital there.

Olivia Manning and her husband R.D. Smith are also discussed in this book.

Stephanie | 15 comments Heron, this looks like a very good possibility. I just checked it out via interlibrary loan...thanks so much for your help. I was literally smashing my head against the wall over this one! :-)
