Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 172 comments Has anyone watched "$#*! My Dad Says" with William Shatner?
It's on the CBS Channel on Thursdays at 8:30 PM.

"$#*! My Dad Says" (TV Series 2010)
I watched a couple of episodes of it online but never went back.
I usually enjoy William Shatner.

Michael | 422 comments I used to enjoy William Shatner before Boston Legal and he became a caricature of himself. I wanted to watch this new show because I liked the supporting cast but I didn't start because I didn't like the title. I'm not a prude and I know that swearing has it's place, but I just didn't think a primetime sitcom was that place and I didn't know why the title couldn't have been changed to Stuff My Dad Says, or What My Dad Says or something other than $#*!

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 172 comments Michael, I don't like the title of the sitcom either. I think it's in very poor taste. Whoever made the decision to give it that title wasn't very wise. Not only does it have unpleasant connotations, but technically it's clumsy to work with when typing or doing searches. It's also hard to pronounce. :)

PS - I notice that when it's used in the CBS URL, they drop the "$#*!". Of course! :)

Lori (barfield) | 730 comments If i'm not mistaken it came from the title of the book that the show was taken from. Personally i LOVE this show. It's the first time i've like him since Star Trek! I'm not a fan of Will Sasso or Nicole Sullivan, but some how it works. I think it's one of the funniest shows on TV next to How I Met Your Mother & Big Bang. Reminds me of my dad! To this day we never know what he might say. LOL It's not hard to pronounce, SHIT. See you either skipped that word or say it, no big deal!

IMO poor taste is Soap Opera shows. All they do is have sex with each other & scheme to kill or imprison one another. So glad to see some of them disappearing.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 172 comments Thanks for the info, Lori. I followed up and learned that the title of the sitcom comes from a twitter feed which became a book.

The book is:
Sh*t My Dad Says by Justin Halpern Sh*t My Dad Says (2010) by Justin Halpern.

See details at:

Wiki says the title is pronounced as "Bleep My Dad Says". Wiki also says:
"On May 19, 2010, CBS announced the show's official name ... Soon thereafter, the Parents Television Council announced that it was protesting the title because it alluded to an obscenity. ... CBS stated, '[The show] will in no way be indecent and will adhere to all CBS standards' ".

About the book, Wiki says: "During its first week, the book reached #8 on The New York Times Best Seller list for hardcover nonfiction. Five weeks after its release, the book was #1 on the list."

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 172 comments I don't see this show, "$#*! My Dad Says", on my TV schedule. I did a search for it on my TV but it's not there. Of course, with that name, it's hard to do a search. At any rate, I don't see it on the CBS grid tonight. It's supposed to be on Thursdays at 8:30PM on CBS.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 172 comments It's Thursday again and once again, "$#*! My Dad Says" wasn't on at the time specified at its web site, 8:30 PM. You'd think the web site would post some sort of announcement about the change of scheduling. I wonder what happened to the show. Here's the show's web site:

Angie Kinda thought the book was funny but not enough to watch a show based off it.

ɯɐɔ (camalama) MAD (the show on CN, not the mag.) did a spoof of it. Very funny. :)
